Project Ashcroft

So just finished reading the Project Ashcroft thread, and. . .
It began with Aly Wilder (8 yrs. old) contacting HKDL under the screen name Hichonaly.
hkdl wrote:
This is getting just flat out weird. lol

Hichonaly: Hello Are you there?
hkdl0521: Yes
Hichonaly: Heehee
Hichonaly: I found one!
hkdl0521: What did you find?
Hichonaly: You!
hkdl0521: Was I lost?
Hichonaly: Sort of. Kinda. Maybe.
hkdl0521: I see, so, who are you?
Hichonaly: Shh...don't tell...
Hichonaly: I'm not allowed to say.
Hichonaly: Mother said I can't
hkdl0521: Don't owrry I won't tell
Hichonaly: I can't...
hkdl0521: What can't you do?
Hichonaly: I can't tell...
hkdl0521: Okay, well thats alright...can you tell me what you were looking for when you found me?
Hichonaly: I was looking for a connection. To the outside.
hkdl0521: Are you trapped somewhere?
Hichonaly: Sort of. Kind of. Maybe.
hkdl0521: Okay...Do you have a name?
Hichonaly: Shhhh....mother said I'm not allowed. I'll get in trouble...
hkdl0521: Okay sorry
hkdl0521: What can you tell me?
Hichonaly: I found you, that is good...what have you found...
Hichonaly: oh no.....mother is here...I gotta go....

Project Ashcroft was a U.S. Government Black Ops that expiremented with genetic alteration of children. Only 20% of the subjects survived testing (The Project used the codes Hicho for successful children and Skitzo for the unsuccesful), Aly Wilder was a successful subject. Two subjescts had gone missing, you got it! Aly was one of them, she is also known as Subject 159.

Josephine Francis had kidnapped Aly and brainwashed her into beleiving she was Aly's mother, apparently she was using her for some sort personal gain. Later in the game their is a plot twist we're we find Josephine is actually the leader of Project Ashcroft, and was under cover as Aly's kidnapper.

Naomi Goldsman (AKA Subject 28 ) is the other missing subject and was tested on earlier, and at a older age, making her significantly older than Aly (20). Apparently she is an expert at code breaking and helps the players break the final code hours before the deadline.

First convo w/ Naomi

Okay, the other day, someone named NaomiGoldsman IMed me. I wasn't there at the time, so all she said was "Hello, are you there?," and I was gonna wait to post until I was sure she was ingame... Well, she's definitely ingame.

NaomiGoldsman: Hello?
PokeKiller2k: Hey
PokeKiller2k: You IMed me earlier?
NaomiGoldsman: Yes.
NaomiGoldsman: You know Aly?
PokeKiller2k: Yes... I haven't talked to her myself, but I know people that have.
NaomiGoldsman: She's been taken, right?
PokeKiller2k: Yeah, apparently Project Ashcroft found her
NaomiGoldsman: damnit, they'll look for me next.
NaomiGoldsman: you got into the database as well?
PokeKiller2k: Yes... You're the other escapee?
NaomiGoldsman: yes.
NaomiGoldsman: The database is gibberish, and it's not vigenere.
NaomiGoldsman: it's very old. Very very very old.
PokeKiller2k: I figured... I tried working backwards, and it wasn't making any sense
PokeKiller2k: That clears things up a bit
PokeKiller2k: So... You're subject 28?
NaomiGoldsman: Yes.
NaomiGoldsman: The oldest
NaomiGoldsman: I was 20 when I escaped.
PokeKiller2k: 3 years ago?
NaomiGoldsman: yes.
PokeKiller2k: How long has this been going on?
NaomiGoldsman: since before the 80's
PokeKiller2k: Wow
NaomiGoldsman: it was originally just genetic testing on aborted fetuses, but it grew.
NaomiGoldsman: they discovered that they could alter living beings, but the younger they were, the easier it was. Out of the original 50 from the 80's, I was the only surviver. They went from teenagers to younger children.
NaomiGoldsman: look, I have to go.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The URL is Vigenere:

That's why the mainframe seemed impossible to translate -- It wasn't Vigenere like we assumed it was.
Anyway, that's too much for me. If someone else wants to give it a try, or can find an application for that somewhere, go right ahead. Laughing

(bold is mine)
the link doesn't work

No mention of John Peterson in the first game.

I think thats it for everything currently relating to this game from the first Project Ashcroft, I'm really tired and out of coffee so thats it for me tonight, if anyone else reads the thread (I reccomend it, only 7 pages) feel free to tell me if I missed anything or got any of it wrong.

well, several points strike me on first read:

-Alex Peterson was a subject of genetic engineering. So were Naomi and Aly. This suggests an obvious link; perhaps this is a continuation?
-in PokeKiller's final IM chat, General Stoffel talks about the thieves who stole the genetic engineering technology. ProjectAshcroft2: You see, it was a simple genetics project in the 80's but when we closed it down, a few crazy workers stole the test subjects and continued it black-op.

I would be really interested to know whether PokeKiller ever recieved that floppy disk, and if so, what was on it.

EtTuTortilla: I've tried contacting Alex on his old IM address.
TransientAxiom: Any luck?
EtTuTortilla: Apparently his new lifestyle is lived without an internet connection.
TransientAxiom: That's understandable, from his position.
EtTuTortilla: Sure is.
EtTuTortilla: I must say, now that I know the background of our Mr. Peterson, I've been trying to dig up anything I can on old websites affiliated with him.
EtTuTortilla: It seems like they've all been shut down.
EtTuTortilla: I'm sick today, locked in the motel room. Do you have any leads for me?
TransientAxiom: I might. Let me check my sources.
TransientAxiom: (678) 202 5022 x 378
TransientAxiom: The current number we have on file for him.
EtTuTortilla: Interesting.
EtTuTortilla: Well. It seems I get service on the balcony only. I'll talk to you later.
TransientAxiom: Okay.
EtTuTortilla: So...I got threatened.
TransientAxiom: Are you all that surprised.
EtTuTortilla: But I used my best Texan accent, so maybe it'll throw him off.
EtTuTortilla: Oh no, not surprised at all.
TransientAxiom: Hmm. Let's hope he doesn't have caller ID, then, yes?
EtTuTortilla: Who doesn't these days?
EtTuTortilla: Since you know him a little better than I, when he says "an unpleasant visit," he doesn't mean an obese man in a Rocky Horror Picture Show costume? He means...say...killing me?
TransientAxiom: If he was so inclined. I doubt the accuracy of his statements. He can't afford to reveal himself to the Russian.
EtTuTortilla: Is in our (myself and the others) best interest to pinpoint the location of the Russian before focusing on Alex?
EtTuTortilla: There should have been an "it" up there at the beginning.
TransientAxiom: I'd say that it's your choice to choose who you focus on, and subsequently aid.
EtTuTortilla: Aid? They seem to be equally unsavory.
TransientAxiom: If either of them become major players, I intend to withdraw from the stage. Your communications would be restricted to only the two.

EtTuTortilla: Ah. Well. I work international accounts, so I'm sure your boys are much friendlier than my clients. Any word on the Russian other than he was/is in Tokyo?
TransientAxiom: We're working on discovering his identity.
EtTuTortilla: Hm. Well I've got a theory.
EtTuTortilla: If we could goad Alex into moving, the Russian would also have to move.
EtTuTortilla: You might be able to pick something up from that. And then forward it here, of course.
TransientAxiom: We'll consider it.
EtTuTortilla: You're aware this area code isn't in Miami?
TransientAxiom: I am.
EtTuTortilla: That's all the questions I've got for now. Unless you have more for me, I'm off to the druggist for some DayQuil.

The area code 678 is one of a few in the Atlanta Metro area.

You know, the area code has been bothering me since I read it the first time. It's almost the same as the first one. Miami = 786, Atlanta = 678. Coincidence?

****edit

The following are all the permustations of the area code 678.

678 = Atlanta, GA, USA
687 = None
768 = None
786 = Miami, FL, USA
867 = Yukon/Northwest Territories, CA
876 = Jamaica

Yikes....Suffice it to say, Alex is no Aly... Shocked

I did try the number, and had a rather...er...interesting conversation. Let's just say that I'm feeling pretty lucky that I come from a hunting background and have experience with guns...lol! Other than a few threats, I didn't get much to go on, other than learning a bit of what happened since Ashcroft 1. In between not-so-veiled threats, he'd tell me that he was not impressed with my knowlege of the situation, so I have a feeling that what I found out might already be known from Ashcroft 3.

I only read the first Ashcroft so far, so I kind of had it in my head that Alex was along the same lines as Naomi and Ali...good people in bad circumstances...not so. I'm inclined to keep him at arms length at this point. I can see why TA and the govt are so eager to contain the guy.

I'm thinking our Russian is the good guy in bad circumstances. Ol' Tranny said he had a falling out with some unsavory group by not killing someone. Anyway, if and when we make contact with him, we should know who is our friendly contact.

Chatting wth TA...this came across...TA is playing dumb, as was I.

[20:51] TransientAxiom: ffffffffffffffsd'
[20:52] AprilFCG: Who is this?
[20:52] AprilFCG: TA?
[20:52] TransientAxiom: 4rtgcb tr6u7jnfv v nb y6tuv 6frb6rfbcwse65 w57svg
[20:52] AprilFCG: Who is this??
[20:53] TransientAxiom: Hm. Apologies.
[20:53] AprilFCG: What was that?
[20:53] TransientAxiom: Slight malfunction. Nothing to worry about.
[20:53] AprilFCG: that gibberish?
[20:53] TransientAxiom: Indeed.
[20:54] AprilFCG: oh...alright, I'm glad to hear it. Again, a bit twitchy over here!
[20:54] TransientAxiom: Nothing to worry about.
[20:55] AprilFCG: So, you are sure about the security of the database?
[20:55] TransientAxiom: Oh, most certainly.

He blew it off as a glitch, I didn't press the issue.

Splendid. Our first cipher. I am working on it now. Anything else he may have said that could be a decrypt key? I'm working under the assumption that the key might be ffffffffffffffsd' right now.

It looks like they used vigeneres in Ashcroft, but if the "f's" were the key, it would be pretty obvious...ie, portions should have shown up in a ROT...right? lol!

Before that cypher showed up, he mentioned something being "amiss", and that he had to excuse himself to check it. He then signed on and off in quick succession about 4 times before the code came across.

I spent an hour and a half talking to TA. Some info...they think the Russian assasin is first going to San Francisco, then to New York to meet a contact, although they are still working on the identity of the client. He also told me that he was not a gov't employee, but rather a contractor who was being very well compensated to do a job, and not talk about it when it was done. He told me that he was "the only man for the job", but could not elaborate on it.

He said that all of us on this are "protected" by the govt, so any threats from Alex are nothing to worry about....time will tell on that, I guess. And lastly, he gave me a contact number. He said he would not be able to talk, but I could leave messages if I found anything. It's 585-469-8237

What he does not know is where Alex is headed, and the name of the Russian assasin; he asked about that repeatedly.

Where Alex is going

Hey guys, I know that I'm completely new to this, but I thought that I'd throw this out there so that you might be able to chew on it a bit. I would guess that Alex is heading to NYC. A few clues point there.
The Russian is going there. We know this from both what TA has said and on romxnce.net he talks about the Big Apple being nicer than Tokyo (suggesting he is on his way there.) Alex wants to kill this guy before he gets killed by the Russian. Also he's headed north, now this in its self isn't much but connected it might mean something.

Just my two cents.

Ok...I should have posted this yesterday, but I wasn't sure how I was supposed to handle this, so I decided to sleep on it.

When I talked to Alex, I told him that I was willing to ally with him...I told him that I was never one to trust government anyway. After a while, he told me that he was on his way to find Nikolai Petrovsky, his Russian rival. He basically told me that his way of knowing he can "trust" me was that when I was talking to all of you, I was to keep this to myself, hence the delay while I tried to sort that one out.

He also told me that Aly and Naomi were the first two to escape, although there were two more later, John Peterson, his brother was the third, and Alex was the fourth, and apparently, last. Alex told me that he killed his brother, for no other reason than "dominance".

At the time I talked to Alex, I wasn't sure what side was the least of the evils, although I did what I could to convince him that I wanted to help him out.

I called the number TA left, and told him that Alex was headed to SanFran. I didn't tell him the name of the Russian, simply because Alyx Chusil's reasoning about the Russian possibly being a "good guy" (ie, he refused to kill someone) is starting to make a lot of sense to me. The US govt. is also after Nikolai, and I don't want to help them yet, since we've not had a chance to "size up" Nikolai yet. And, just as he was hanging up, Alex told me it was a shame that I was basically helping to kill an innocent man...

Soooo, at this point, I'm going to try to keep Alex thinking that I'm in his corner. In the meantime, I'm going to try figure out what I can about Nikolai Petrovsky (interesting last name). As far as TA is concerened, I think he's ok, but I don't trust his employers fully yet. However, where I can, I think I should continue to feed info to him, as long as it doesn't give up info about Petrovsky.

But anywho, that's where I'm at...feedback reqeusted!!

And no, I've not cracked that cypher from last night yet...grrr!

Ha! I knew it! I got my brother in on this a few days ago and I told him yesterday, "she's hiding something." And you were!

We don't hold it against you, though. Not now that we know what it is.

Right, then. I will try to get in contact with our Russian. Right now, I'm thinking we should keep April as our Alex contact, on of us a Russian contact, and, if he doesn't leave like he said, one of us in contact with Ol' Tranny. Of course we'll continue to collaborate and, in effect, play all three sides to our gain. Until we see all the proverbial cards, that is.

Also, an interesting name. Quite. I've read much about the Great Game, though, admittedly, my knowledge is more on the English side (obvious reasons). Possibly this is not the Russian's real name?

Blown Cover

Well haven't you just blown your cover? Maybe this is just noobishness, but it seems to me that at least TA and Alex (now) are monitoring these boards. Is it possible to play them?
