Fleming's heart sank. He put his arm round the boy's shoulders and plumped the pillow.

"Of course she did. She alwats worked very hard."

Otto lay on his bed but his body stayed tense and his eyes were wide open.

"What is it, Otto?"

"Mrs Satchel said..." They boy bit his lip and wrinkled his forehead in thought. "Mrs Satchel said that if we didn't do our homework, the Puzzle Monsters would come and get us."

On the other side of the bed, Pip was lying still, facing the wall, but Fleming could tell that he was awake and listening. Otto looked up, waiting for his father;s reply.

"Grown-ups say silly things sometimes. Don't worry about the Puzzle Monsters. They aren't real. Just make sure you do your homework. Go to sleep now."

He kissed the boy on the forehead and stood up, reaching for the light switch.

"But they took Mummy into the tunnels didn't they? They took her away."

Fleming leaned against the door-frame and the last of his strength drained from him.

"Those weren't Puzzle Monsters, Otto... They were just monsters."

 		wow. That's quite a back. The backs are certainly works of brilliance on their own this season. I'll need to get some sort of case which absolutely displays fFronts and backs.
