[S2] [Cards Set] #034 California

Front:

Quote:
In recent years the idea of love triangles has become a little bit passe. If your mother hasn't slept with your boyfriend, and your dad's not marrying a woman half his age, then you're a nobody. Can you recognise this mixed relationship web, and tell us which TV show's first season this is based upon?

Back:

Quote:
Crimes of Fashion!

With Police Lieutenant Cornelius Day-Etherbrington and this week's guest detective, Perplex City Academy's Tippy Ankron

Aurora Belle

Cornelius: Now, Tippy, my dear, what is it we are burning our retinas with here?

Tippy: Why, it's a mini-skirt and thigh boots, Cornelius.

Cornelius: It certainly is, Tippy. And what is our rule about mini-skirts and thigh boots?

Tippy: Just. Don't.

Cornelius: Right. And Miss Belle, here, might think that such rules don't apply to such a delightful looking creature as her. But listen to me, Aurora, darling, they do. Twice over. In fact, the only good thing about this combo is that it is so hideous it is actually distracting us from the shocking waistcoat, not to mention the length of that hemline.

Tippy: I just hope she'd had an Anjsbourgan wax.

Cornelius: Quite. One out of ten. It'd be zero, but at least those boots are brown.

This puzzle makes me sad.
"Oooh, here's an idea! Let's make a puzzle about the storyline of a terrible TV show that probably only about 1% of our playerbase watches!"

On another note: Hooray, one I can solve Very Happy

I don't think it's much worse than any of the other cards that 5 minutes with Google will give you the answer to.

On the other hand - "why not make a puzzle based around a cool zeitgeisty show that anyone with taste is completely addicted to...?" (season 1 and 2 at least...) Cool

If it's any help to people, you don't have to have ever watched it - I've only ever seen a few trailers for it, and I just took a guess and got it right first time

And if you just can't seem to guess it:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Use the title of the card, and a few names in your favorite search engine. Less than 1 minute (unless you type EXTREMELY SLOW) and you'll have your answer.

Just for completeness (and because formatting this correctly could be tricky), the confirmed solve is:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the oc

In terms of the most spoiler-riffic hint I could give without saying the solve...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
this is the first time I've seen the card color is a hint to the card's answer.

Worth noting that's actually how I guessed the answer without a Google or IMDb search.

well, I'll say it was a pretty hard one fFor me, cos I've never heard of the show, nor could i tell you anything about it. I started by guessing the 90210 show (Is that even on still? See, I have no idea.) but, not owning a TV will do that I suppose.

Here in the US,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the OC
used that california song for ALL it's comericals... could even be the title song. (i wouldn't know, i've never seen it, i just watch alot of FOX.)
