Thanks for the thought CherokeeParkes, but I have already spent two solid days writing code which found the solution that Magma gives and many other possible arrangements of the pieces.

As far as I can remember from the wording on the solve box, it allows several different solutions rather than the single solution which the previous 6 pages focus on. Before going into detail I thought I would check if anyone had the exact wording of the solve box.

Interesting. Could we try your solver (and look at its source). I've build one too (its somewhere in the thread) so I'm always interested in how other tackled these problems. Yours looks pretty good. Smile

arnezami, the code for this card is at http://www.kalva.demon.co.uk/pc-cards/card231.c. I wrote it as a command line utility to run on OS X, to avoid cluttering it up with windowing or other input/output code. The general way in to my PC stuff is http://www.kalva.demon.co.uk/perplexCityCards.html

Could someone please tell me if once the squares have been arranged correctly does the grid stay the same shape as it is on the card?

Hi guys, you've all done some excellent work here and on other cards, but seem to be having some problems with entering this answer. I've checked the file on here, plus rearranged the squares as advised previously in the thread.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm entering 12 11 7 3 24 16 6 17 5 as the answer

but the solve page isn't accepting it. I'm I missing something obvisious or is this a problem with the new website?

I'm avoiding looking at your solution, or anything else in this thread, as this is the first silver I've gotten and I'm excited about taking a few days to solve it on my own.

HOWEVER, I will mention two things:
1) I, and others, have been having difficulty getting solves accepted by the MC site. I've e-mailed them about it, but you might as well, listing the card and your solve (in case you really are wrong).
2) The card has errata, and though I don't have it memorized, I'm sure you can find it online. Make sure you've taken that into consideration.

thanks for the replies guys, I subsequently discovered similar problems with other cards and emailed MC. No reply as yet, but I expect they're busy at the moment Smile
