I thought about that too Tempera, it's very possible.

The results of what we have so far though lead me to believe that this isn't Morse code. Morse code letters are (I think) at most 4 elements long... and some of these groups are 8 elements or more! Anyone got any thoughts on that?

yeah i was saying before about the sheer number of possible letter combinations. we would probably need to write a program to sort through it for morse messages, but then we would then probably need to ROT each answer just in case. i can code (a bit) but have no idea how best to approach the information.

(all this is assuming that the groups of 8 elements are strings of 3 or 4 letters each)

neil

EDIT: okay, just knocked together a quick bit of code to check. if a sequence is 8 elements long and morse code letters can be anything from 1-5 letters, the sequence could be any one of 120 possible combinations of letters.

not good.

DOUBLE EDIT:

actually, its far worse than that. my code found 120 combinations of numbers between 1 and 5 that add up to 8, but that doesnt take into account the fact that those numbers themselves can be any combination of dots and dashes. for example, one of the combinations found was 3+2+2+1. this could be any of the following morse sequences:

... _ _ _ _ . (SMME)
_ _ _ _ _ .. _ (OMIT)
... .. .. . (SIIE)
. _ _ .. _ . . (WINE)

a way round this would be to find the maximum possible combinations for each segment, compare these to what we think are the dots and dashes and then translate that into morse. i reckon i could do it but i would need a full, definite list of what we think the segments contain in terms of dots and dashes.

Cortez and Ript brought up the ideas of binary encoding and tap code. But both were refuted later. I forgot why binary was infeasible?... and the tap code wouldn't work because there are sequences containing 6 short taps and that'd be out of the dimensions of the 5 x 5 grid.

I tried just counting the taps between the longer pauses, and got
9, 7, 9, 5, 11, 5, 2, 3
IGIEKEBC (Or IGIEKDBC),
which doesn't amount to anything with simple ROT or Fibonacci so far...
There might be other possibilities out there though.

Having said that, the FET forums "confirmed" that the phone message contains some kind of morse code. So maybe the CM wants us to put appropriate letter spacings ourselves.

Neil, I have no idea how credible the results are. I can keep working through the rest of the clips and obtain a full sequence, but it'd be great if someone can double-check on these and point out mistakes in my interpretations...

(So, none of the 120 ways of partitioning . . . - - . - . + ROT/Fib gave something that might make sense?)

regarding the 120 ways - there are 120 possible ways of grouping 8 dots/dashes into "lumps" of between 1 and 5. however, this number is multiplied by the possible permutations of dots and dashes within each "lump".

i have spent all day making a program which does the following:

- you enter the transcribed dots and dashes from the recording, with all spaces omitted.

- it works out all of the possible ways of grouping the dots and dashes into chunks to form letters: for example, ".-.-.- .-. -.-" or ".- .- .-.-. -.-".

- it converts these chunks to make letters and dumps them into a .txt file called "output.txt", ignoring any illegal chunks which arent letters or numbers - thus narrowing the search.

the only limitations are as follows:

- for reasons of processing power you can only enter up to 14 dots or dashes at a time, so if the taps make more than 14 dots/dashes we will have to do it in chunks.

- for the same reasons it only makes lumps of up to 5 dots/dashes, which causes punctuation (6 dots/dashes in morse code) to be omitted

- any ignored letters are shown as a hash symbol in the .txt file, so you can see at a glance which lines to ignore.

- some poor soul has got to go through the text file and check for rot etc. i found that with 14 input dots/dashes there are over 6300 ways of arranging them, let alone checking for words. this could take a while. the trouble is that the four-letter swear word that i tried contains the full 14 symbols, so it's roughly 1 run per word.

- each time you run it, it overwrites the output file, so you will need to move / copy it if you want to keep it.

i just tried the morse for "neil": there were 236 possible combinations of legitimate letters. would the codemaster really be so cruel as to rot it for us as well?

neil

EDIT: sorry to keep posting, but i thought id just add that my laptop is rubbish, hence the "time taken" field in the output file. if anyone has a fast pc which can whoop my poor old laptop's 42 seconds then let me know and ill try to alter the program to do more than 14 elements at a time

Great work Neil!

Out of interest, did anyone actually leave a message after the sermon when invited to? That would seem the obvious thing to do, but it only just occured to me.

EDIT:

Running your excellent piece of code, I got from the first 14 signals:

I am not...

Just a side thought that was inspired from the thread "Sam Deercot's Resume" on finderictaylor.com boards. What if those people are all aspiring actors and he's teaching them the ultimate acting lesson. They don't look to scared int he pictures... I dunno just thinking and it's late -_-

New Video Info

All The Info You Ever Wanted On This Video

Code At the end:
CEGORK UHJSIY PVFR
I CJLM BEIPMF A GNPSU

(doesn't ROT to anything nice)

Voiceover at the end says:
I am ready/waiting (?)

Tags:
thehumanpet the human pet rgnq arggben yyn sb gfevs gho rcnet ehbf nupnrc qryvbcfn horror man woman art love death sex

SOLUTION:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ROT-13 to:
etad nettora lla fo tsrif tub eparg ruos ahcaep deliopsa

reverse it to get:

a spoiled peach a sour grape but first of all a rotten date

My thoughts on what this means:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The key to the puzzle is Eric's girlfriend. Either Codemaster was her boyfriend, and he kidnapped Eric to get him out of the way, or something like that.

Other Stuff:
Whenever a clip of fire cuts in, it is actually a clip of the paper at the end with the code burning, but the clips are shown in reverse order (so the first clip shows the paper completely burnt, the last clip shows it before the burning.

The picture of the hand fro stalking (right?) is shown again at 5:12.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Is this Eric's girlfriend's hand?

Once Final Thing:
The attatched picture is shown at 4:36

Nice work. When he sits down at his computer and starts to move the mouse, you can hear some talking. I don't know if its him but someone with the right tools should examine it further. Just a suggestion. Smile

Also, when the paper is completely burned (the first flash) you can see the number 3. I assume its from the 13 we keep seeing but does that number have any relevance other than the apartment number? I did a little check and 13 has a few religious links to it...

-------------------------------------------------------
The number of participants at the Last Supper

Counting both Judas and Matthias, there were thirteen apostles

Thirteen was once associated with the Epiphany by Christians, the child Jesus having received the Magi on his thirteenth day of life.

In Judaism, 13 signifies the age of maturity (bar mitzvah) for boys

The number of principles of Jewish faith according to Maimonides

According to the Torah, God has 13 Attributes of Mercy

In modern day Wicca, thirteen is considered the maximum size of a coven, and in some traditions is the ideal number of members, and there are also 13 goals of a witch.

In Sikhism, the number thirteen (13) is a number devoted to the remembrance of God, therefore it is also considered lucky by people who practice the Sikh faith.
-------------------------------------------------------
I may be delving a bit too much into 13 but its interesting nonetheless, especially God's 13 Attributes of Mercy. The Attributes of Mercy state that God is merciful and that Israel will always be forgiven (for its construction of the golden calf). Perhaps the CM, who seems to like playing God, just wants some sort of confession out of Eric and he will "forgive"?

Again, its just an idea. Give me your thoughts!

Nice~

The codes look like an anagram to me. There are plenty of combinations though. (I've probably looked at the plots of sound clips for too long because "BE CALM IF PINGS JUMP" stood out when I anagrammed the 2nd line)

And "rotten date" sounds fishy. Was there anything that spells a date under ROT? I remember we first thought of "12066000254" as a possible date/time combination as well.

Does anyone recognize the song playing?

For what it's worth, some other images from the momentary flashes are the CM's mask, the "wall of victims" board, and a shot of what I think is the match with a bootprint next to it.

At least we know who sue is.

The music is The Original A.P. by Fourstones, as stated in the video description. Smile I'll be working on the code at the end of the video, but as a note, anyone going to call back the number and confess their sins? Somewhat of an obvious step to take based on the new video.

What the voice says...
...as Eric sits at the computer.

Judge for yourself before you roll over the spoiler, but I think it says:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Load it with the mouse

The sound was buried really, really low and Mr. Deercot had kindly artificially placed some of the bangs and crashes directly over some of the syllables. When you filter out as much background as you can and amplify the results many, many times, you get this.

I just left a message saying how I would like to confess my sins. We will see if I am allowed to.

I also extracted these frames from the video

The code

The footprint and the fire

Now to the code...
