[DC][SPEC] Message Monitoring
Are they intercepting messages or not?

I've posted this as a new topic, because even though it's been discussed elsewhere, it's getting confusing for me as to where to look for it all the time. I'm also going to put up a new topic on karma specifically, because as the game progresses, I think it is going to be a hot topic.

Anyway, I think I can definitely verify that they have been filtering messages. Just got a couple of messages from trace, asking why I hadn't replied, and told him that I hadn't seen his messages amongst the others, as I've been keeping all of the messages sent to me as a reference.

It occurs to me now, though, that the number of messages I had a few hours ago is entirely different from the number I have now. I think the corp has been supressing them, and maybe I'm only receiving them now because I made a comment on the boards that was a little positive towards the corp.

I know this marks me as super paranoid, but are we absolutely sure they aren't monitoring this board?

They're not supposed to do anything IG that's done OOG- if the PMs break that then nothing is sacred. And i'd also be pissed. You don't piss off a taurean. You should never anger the Bull. LOL Smile

It's only logical that they're monitoring/filtering the messages. After all, they monitor everything else about us, such as where we go.

In my communications with Theo/eldoradowatcher I've tried to get them to move to email, saying that the comms may be watched. ew agreed that they could be watched, so I reckon they are.

Ofcourse they skim this Forum, why do you think they realized Lex was a 1337 h4x0r!1one?
But they cannot (and haven't) reacted to anything on this board in a direct way save for the very very beginning. They may come up with in-game explanations and reasons to adress some problems they become aware of here, but that's all fair game, aslong as it does not break the game logic.

I seem to be able to send and recieve freely, which would make no sense whatsoever if they were dicking with the message function for those hostile to Deus City.

Ok Here is how I think it works.. the first thing i noticed is there is not time and date on the messages, which means that they have all the time in the world to send the message, they probably read all green to green comms, most red to green, and red to red is most likely filtered but not as much so....

Like if i send theo a message, i know Foo is going to read it, but if i send Foo a message, it will probably be in his inbox like super quick
maybe we should put the time and date on our emails so we know? but if you weren't logged in for a day or so it really wouldn't matter

im under the impression from communications ive had that they absolutely filter out messages. the people working int he group i have been working with were actually warned about sniffers detecting messages so weve been using other means of contact in game and using email and aim outside the interface.

I got some nice confirmation from Foo that either messages monitored or he's playing me!

Be warned that it's sortof spoilery and I'm not giving anyone except tCotSA people this in-game, for reasons outlined in the post in question:

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=308602#308602

Edited to add: this also confirms that either again he's playing me... or that the code you guys have been using does work.

This post is OOG, you've been warned Smile
I think this is the right place to post this, I got a message from Prince this morning.

Quote:
3/10/07 9:30
Me to ADPrince:
Thank you, I will report to Foo. Don't hesitate to let me know if there is anything YOU need.

3/12/07
ADPrince says:
That is very kind of you to offer your services Agent Johnnycon7. In fact I have been watching you and the TIA likes your no nonsense style of investigation. Would you mind delivering a message from the TIA internal affairs office to a rogue agent named "Morelaak"? Just to be clear: It is a stern warning and I would prefer to allow our own to handle these little issues.

>>BEGIN MESSAGE
I have begun sending dummy messages every time i send a </sniffme> message, to throw Foo and the others off the trail, and i plan on telling everyone i give the sniffer to do the same.
>>END MESSAGE

I'm not entirely clear on the devices, although I guess I'm not suposed to be; but this means either Prince can read the sniff me messages and is warning us, or hes trying to get me to mark the accounts with a sniffer so he can know who they are.
