But what I was trying to get at is that just given the string without the method, I doubt anyone could decode it.

Yeah, but it was easy for you to encode it.

Congratulations!

Hi guys, long time since I posted here (long long long time....been too busy growing up, graduation, job, etc..but anyway i digress)

Congratulations Rand0m!!!! Lucky git Razz

Finally, I can catch the start of the game this time with Season 2....wonder if theres going to be another prize up for grabs this time? Though logic dictates that this time if theres treasure buried somewhere, it probably won't be in the UK....damn Sad

Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN Rand0m!!!!!

Massive kudos to Random for the find, well done mate you definitely deserve it! I've played and followed Perplex City pretty much from the start, but relocated to Australia 5 months ago and halted there! With all this excitement about the cube discovery I'm fired up again, but can someone please give a detailed description as to how the location was found from the cards/LoB website? I've read through Random's story and riveting it is too, but I just don't fully understand how the location was arrived at, or how the number strings/Risk figures related to this? Can anyone explain as best they can, or link me somewhere? It seems to be a grey area within the game, and for decent closure on season 1 I would sure like to know! Extreme gratitude towards anyone who can, and again a big well done to Random!!!

In the chat with MC the Risk shapes seemed to be a sore point with Adrian and he required some measure of comfort (see silently broken's excellent blog transcript). I don't think they were satisfactorily solved and we haven't been told how things should have worked either. The number strings relate to this and the relevant thread (mid to long in lenght Wink ) is here.

I was fairly busy at work during the endgame, so I missed some things that were probably significant and don't have a broad picture of events, but for what it's worth.

The location was down by Chippy's sheer inspiration as he noticed that the strange shapes on the cards linked together to form the outline of the Jurassic way, clues coming in the form of the mention of strata at the library of babel site (despite us missing a significant number of other clues entirely). From there I think things were narrowed down by looking for woods, and those with specific features (butterflies and red kites?). I don't know whether there was a clue that would have allowed us to discriminate between the woods more difinitively.

It would be great if someone with a better grasp of the endgame (posting went a little quiet as people got their shovels out Wink ) could put something more specific together.

Congratulations Rand0m!! Excellent work and an awesome read. Wish I'd stayed more involved with the story over the last few months but lack of money and time forced me to do otherwise.

There would have been no chance of me doing what you did though, congrats again!!

Bah! It was me that spotted that the amorphous blobs made the Jurassic layer, not Chippy.

Not that I care, not that it matters. But I got it first, and it's about the only thing I've contributed to PXC apart from being one of the original 333.

Hmph. I sound really miserable and mean spirited. I'm not, honestly...

AN IMPORTANT CORRECTION!

Sorry! mea culpa. cjr22 is our king (one step behind Prime Minister Rand0m and one step ahead of court puppeteer Chippy Wink ).

Way to go cjr22 - CONGRATS!!

You don't sound mean spirited at all, everyone deserves fair credit for their work. That solve was a brilliant bit of work.

I can't believe I stumbled across this thread from firebox.com.

I was a member of uf from the earlydays of perplexcity, and have taken great pleasure in reading the story of the finding of the cube and seeing some familiar names posting their congratulations.

I lost track of perplexcity due to poor health and never got back into it.

Once again, congratulations to Rand0m and thankyou for telling your story.
