[S2] [Cards set] #225 Kidnapped

This might be a difficult one to see and transcribe.

Front:

Quote:
As a night of violent storms shook the land, the Oni stole into the Emperor's palace and kidnapped his daughter, the princess. Awakened by her screams, the Emperor sealed the palace but it was too late: the Oni and the princess had gone.

That very night he dispatched a secret message to the men of the land, offering the princess's hand in marriage to the hero who rescued her.

What is the name of the Princess?

Back:

Quote:
"You can't come through" says another man, blocking the doorway. You try to squeeze through anyway- doesn't he understand you have to keep on moving?

"I said you can't come through!" he repeats, worriedly. "You're not supposed to be here, it's dangerous. You'll have to go back the way you came."

You turn around, and without warning charge into him, knocking him over. The room- more like a corridor- is almost a mile long, with strange objects and sculptures of people you almost recognise. There's not enough time to look at them carefully, since the man will be up and running after you soon.

You weave your way through, keeping up a steady pace, and after a few minutes make it to the end and open the door.

Are there five different symbols in the code (squares, circles, crosses, triangles and diamonds)? Seems interesting that the 'larger/darker' symbols are located more centrally than the 'lighter/smaller' ones...does this perhaps suggest stacking or layering of the symbols?

There are squares, crosses circles, triangles and stars in the grid, as well as small circles and lines in between various shapes. Out of the large shapes, the darker ones are all stars, but that may be for decoration.

Should the answer be something like ASCII art?

I've noticed certain symbols have red lines through them - these lines only appear with the light at a certain angle. It's very hard to see. It might be a blacklight sensitive, I haven't been able to test this.

I can see the lines on the second rose of circles below the three circles (towards the upper left) and through the first row of circles below the triangles (in the upper right).

Am I just seeing things, or is my card misprinted, or is this universal for all cards?

First thing I thought of (and my gf tends to agree) is that it's a cross stitch pattern....but neither of us does cross stitch Smile

Looks like a flower to me, like a Lotus (tried that, didn't work lol), and I must admit I'm having trouble seeing the lines there...but regarding blacklight sensitivity, I can confirm it's not (I have a strong blacklight here at home and the card is virtually black under it)

So, apart from the symbols sharing the buttons on a Playstation controller, I'm betting on a cross stitch pattern Smile

I originally thought it was a cross stitch pattern (I crochet, knit and cross-stitch). However a few things make me think its not so.

One is the legend on the lower left corner of the card. the five symbols (including the dark star at the bottom) are all placed next to a circle. Even the circle is next to another circle. Not sure what it means but its not something seen in cross stitch patterns.

The second are the dot. They are in the middle of lines, not at the cross-hairs, where they normally are placed.

Hmmm. Who knows.

did you mention the stars that are the darkest symbol used? They are seen only at the stem of this flower.

So we've used Lotus. Can it be something as simple as the name of a flower? Maybe Lily (for lily of the valley or waterlily)?

When I first saw this I assumed it was an autumn leaf.

are we not being over simple with this? surely there must be more to it than figuring out what the pattern is and therefore getting the name. originally when I looked at this I thought the key for the symbols would be translated in some way into numbers or letters. I will point out at this point thatneither maths nor codes are my strong point, so please don't ask me to elaborate too much on my theory. Just throwing some ideas out there for discussion.

Hang just read the text on he card again, it states that the Emporer dispatched a secret message to the men of the land. Is it possible that this picture will give us the secret message if the symbols are decoded?

At the risk of dominating this discussion Iam starting to believe that the pattern is actually a form of cross stitch pattern having looked at various websites. I have no experiance with cross stitch so I cannot attempt to do it, though I think the smaller dots next to he circles in the center are foming an outline of what looks like a bird in flight??? Idea

Hmmm. I did the cross stitch and it looks like a lotus, but I could be wrong.

Did anyone try 'Hasu'? I think it is Japanese for Lotus.

This sounds exactly like the Japanese Fairy Tale Issun Boshi, I've seen the tale a lot of times but I've only ever found one reference to the Princess's name, Haruhime. Its not the answer however. I've tried Sakura, for cherry and even daikon for radish. Someone has suggested that the pattern is a cross stitch pattern. If we discover the type of flower or blossom the pattern is, we may be able to figure out her name.
