Note: inky_jewel said "ahem, there are 10 of us". There are the 8TSOC, possibly plus Nico. Number 10 is unidentified.

Actually there is a listing of 10 that I was able to locate. If they all have messenger names is still up in the air. They can be found by clicking the "About world without oil" in the lower left hand corner ....

Quote:

We're preparing for a crisis

Imagine eight people brought together by trouble: trapped together (with thousands of others) in the Denver airport by a blizzard. We had a lot of time on our hands. We talked. We bonded. Awww. How nice.

One thing we talked about a lot: how the Internet scoops the official media. It's real obvious in a crisis. In Denver, as in the Katrina disaster, people found the true story on the Internet. News stories and gumment bulletins can never hope to match the agility of citizen bloggers and mobloggers, nor their honesty of people talking one to another. Internet people are the real first responders today, the boots on the ground.

Now, here's the thing. We eight have come to believe that a crisis is coming – on April 30, to be precise. (An oil shock, or something to do with oil.) We have no proof – it's just something a guy said in an unguarded moment. He may have been putting us on. But we don't think so. We have decided to prepare.

We're getting this website ready to be the nerve center. Come here to get the day-by-day. And this will be the place to tell your story, about your life once the crisis hits. Nobody else can tell your story – you're the authority on that.

If it is an oil shock, no one is going to be unaffected. There will be disruption and suffering, and probably chaos. Having a place to connect with others is gonna be vital. We will be in it together. Nobody should suffer in silence.

I love how much discussion and theorizing is going on and the game is still a month and a half from launch Smile

Could Dessum9 & mPathytest be the children or pets of YuckyMuck and not really counted as part of the discussion? So then we are back to 8.

Welcome to ARG!
Putting PM names out like that would be breaking the curtain. Theoretically, all writing and postings are part of the BTS (Behind the Scenes) team. Some or all may also be PMs (Puppet Masters aka the authors, designers, etc of the game).

blogs

Found blogs, on VOX, for both inky_jewel and Gala_Teah.

Gala_Teah's profile shows that it was created in Jan and inky_jewel's shows Feb. The pics tie-in with wwo, though of course that doesn't necessarily mean that this is them. Both have recently been updated, but none have public posts - and presumably won't have until April 30.

I'm going to try and contact g/t - You never know what might happen.

Re: blogs

here are the vox sites mentioned above - i just looked them up..here are the links:

http://inkyjewel.vox.com/

http://wwo.vox.com/

also, just doing a google search on world without oil you get a lot of news articles (with the same info basically) on this - even mtv has a news blip on it.

Quote:
Near the end of the panel, McGonigal announced her next ARG, previewed at WorldWithoutOil.org. Launching April 30, it will challenge gamers in 30 parts of the U.S. to blog and otherwise communicate their experiences in an imaginary America where the oil supply has dried up. In the process of playing, gamers may be blogging about how they planned a wedding to which no guests could travel in vehicles requiring oil-based fuels. "What is dating like?" she asked. "What is cooking like?" The goal is to get people thinking and maybe even generating new energy-saving strategies, all just by playing. "I'm looking at this as a game that changes reality," she said.

Oh yeah...one more thing... Konamouse, again you hit it on the head. Vegetable cooking oil can be used "as is" in diesel engines....no tweaking or treating necessary...just filtering if it's been used. Almost all restaraunts have to pay to have the stuff disposed of, so they are happy to give it away. Free fuel!

I wondered if someone would mention that. I remember a Mythbusters episode that tested it.

Yeah, I saw that one too. However, I'd first heard about it on a show I saw on Link TV...I just wish I could remember the name..grrr!

edit:
also, to be honest, i dont know as much as i should about issues like this so i've been trying to find various sites to gather info...i figured i'd post a few to let anyone else read up to get theories and what not ready since we still have some time Smile

http://www.greatchange.org/ov-thomson,convince_sheet.html
- what he thinks will happen in 10 years when no fuel is available kinda thing...a bit confusing in parts but interesting to read.

http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/mecs/iab/petroleum/page2a.html
- enegry use pie charts.

http://www.oilcrashmovie.com/download.html
- if you want to do a lot of reading on some reports.

and finally,
http://www.beloit.edu/~SEPM/Geology_and_the_enviro/Petroleum_need.html
- made for kids, a quick read, has a looong list of oil based products including things like asprin, eyeglasses, deodorant, telephones, etc etc...just kinda interesting.

Argh!!! That show on Link TV..it's called "Greasy Rider" and it's on right now!! It will be on until 11:45 pm central. But, assuming that ya'll arent' going to see this in the next 45 mins, it will be on again tomorrow (Saturday 3/10) at 11:00 am, and 5:00 pm central. It's a really great program, and if you get Link TV, you should really try to catch it!

I agree, this looks like a very interesting subject/discussion/arg, that eveyone has an opinion on, can't wait for this one to start.

Gala_Teah left a comment on "QotD: Can't Type It Rihgt" on Mar 10, 2007

My favorite typo is "addictive." For some inexplicable reason I always tend to put in 3 d's in a row@!

Very Happy

it was a reply to my post:
