Minority Report
imagine an arg with this

I was browsing you tube (creative stuff) and found this one about multisensing interface. It's not new but I couldn't help think of some intriguing uses in ARGs...

Actually, that's not really like Minority Report, because that's still essentially a 2D interface...

When we were at PICNIC'06 last september, John Underkoffler gave a great talk on technology for the future, demonstrating the actual system that was used in Minority Report, i.e. the two-hand glove system that gives you full 3D motion control with two hands. That system is already slowly being put to practical use in flight-control systems for airport control towers, and for military applications.

Underkoffler was an adviser for Spielberg on Minority Report, and was asked to implement technology in that movie that was futuristic, yet believable and practical at the same time. So he implemented a spruced-up version of the very technology the company he's with, Raytheon, was already working on.

The whole thing really blew my mind. The demonstration wasn't nearly as visually impressive as this one, but it's practical implications sounded to me as the way to go for the future...

But there WAS a Minority Report ARG....

And Jim from Miramontes, I saw you at ARGFest and wanted to meet you, but never got a chance.

I can just see the new breed of puzzles coming from these newer techologies. Talk about immersive and interactive.

It's fascinating, compelling and exciting when it's announced at a techie conference or convention...but when it ends up on the DOD or DOJ website under "new projects" it's just straight horrifying.
