Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Also, there is a faint gray shaded line about half a cm inside the rim of the black (bottom right where the green hexagons are). This is actually very small printing. I don't have a magnifying glass and can only make out "All the opportunities ......."

South

South of the Stone Sleeper Crossroads, beyond the river, there is nothing but bare trail for nearly a hundred miles. But somewhere along that trail is a small wooden hut, and in that hut lived an old man who had claimed to be the last person alive to know the real secret of the Stone Sleeper.

Now his daughter makes that claim. He told her the story that he had heard from his grandfather; that the stones were the body of a lost traveller from another world. The traveller lived long ago and further away than is imaginable, and one day found himself lost. After much wandering, he decided to pray to his strange goddess, asking her to raise him up in the sky, so that he might find his way home by jumping from star to star.

His goddess answered his prayer, but didn't tell him that he would freeze and burn and be unable to breathe, up there amongst the stars. The traveller found himself whisked up into the choking night, and too late realized his mistake. After an eternity, his body collided with the atmosphere of this world, where it crashed to the ground, turned to stone.

The old man's daughter likes to be near the stones as a reminder of her dead father. She thinks that his story may even by partly true.

Takes a bit of trial and error. I tried changing directions each time a letter changed orientation. Nope. Tried to find words hat suggested a messy word find puzzle. Nope. Pulled all letters of same orientation together. Hmmm. Some are ambiguous, but with a little trial and error...

grumble..and then you have to answer the question..grumble. Smile

Clearly a newspaper to the left hand side. I wonder if the thing with the green hexagons is part of some perplexian puzzle we'll see more of later ....

I haven't got the card with me at work, but isn't it a set of hex codes for colours in web design? Like this one?

If so, probably not a puzzle - but great raw material for one!

For those of you who want what the question asks :-
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
What is the smallest whole number greater than one that equals one less than twice the reverse of its digits?

And for those that can't be bothered with a spreadsheet...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
73

;-)

A bit high! The actual answer is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
73

Explanation follows:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
73 reversed is 37. 37 * 2 = 74. 73 is one less than 74.
