[S2] [OXO Set] #105 Home Town Guest Puzzle Architect: Peter Blake
The card reads: "In which cities did these cars originate?" and the 5 licence plates read:
NOK-9O1 (with a circle of stars and the letters FIN beside it)
WR35 STR
1129 CNT
OR-14-GE
DNE 414
H12 YWD (with a picture of the state of Florida behind it)
And the back:
Quote:
6am. time for the early service. my morning begins here each day. everyone who lives in the compound gathers for the first prayers of the day in the main hall. i like this time. it lets me see all of my friends gathered together and remember that we are all part of a family, of a whole.
when the leaders gather on the dais, everyone goes quiet. now, we all close our eyes. for minutes we sit in silence, purifying our minds and communing with the Cube. as individuals we speak to It but, as a group, we walk together following Its guidance.
on occasion our leader will speak of our relations with the city. he asks us to pray for our brothers unable to live with us in the compound, he asks us to pray that they be given fair treatment by others. others seem to fear us, to hate us, to be worried by our very presence.
i pray for them all.

So far as I can tell from wiki:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Spanish numbers do not include city codes.
The same applies to most of these countries...

Note, as of 2 days ago when I solved this there is an error in the accepted answer.
Clue:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
These are not real number plates, think sort of text-speak
Error:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Yellow car which presumably should be Worcester is only accepted as Worchester

Clue 1:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You are looking for 6 place names.
Clue 2:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The numbers give you some of the missing letters. Some of the vowels are still missing as in text-speak.
Clue 3:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Green is a place in Finland, orange is in Spain, yellow is in England (spelt wrongly), blue is in the Netherlands, purple is in New Zealand and red is in Florida (though the more famous one is in California),

ta Thanks for providing the solution. Having wasted time on the traditional solution, I was frustrated to still not get a solve with the text approach.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As a Cure fan I would have driven the blue car to another country

I found most of these without much trouble. But I can't find anything for the blue car even vaguely similar to OR...GE. Am I being stupid looking for names in the original language?

Orange
I think part of the problem is that it's not clear which country the blue car comes from. It's most likely from: (hint)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
France
This is because: (contains solution)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Orange is an historically-important city in the south, near Avignon. It's where the House of Orange gets its name from.
There are however also a number of cities with that name in the States.

At the risk of reading way too much into this, it might be worth pointing out that the names of the cities referred to by the green and blue cars are both:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
related to mobile phones.
The green car's city is also both the name and home town of a major mobile phone manufacturer.
The blue car's city is in France, and is also the name of a french-owned mobile phone operator (although I don't think the two are related).
This might explain the idea behind giving the names in text-speak.
Having said that, I can't find an obvious telecoms link with the other four cities...
