I was watching Amadeus, and realized that number 3 sounds like

Got the following hint from Theophilus.

Quote:
Revealing the answer to the brotherhood would be in our interests as some of the songs within the recording are likely being used by us and other unknown factions of the underground. It is dangerous for us to be seen in that virtual location as it is a known location for skivers and undergrounders - so we have not been able to listen to the file ourselves. I am glad you came to me with this - I only wish someone had done so sooner, we have lost a lot of valuable time and may already be compromised.

Regardless... the list of songs is very long and you will have to work those out yourself, but here is a list of composers we have used consistently and recently for our passwords: Some may be helpful to you - others will likely steer you wrong. It is the best we can do. As soon as we know what songs Intellicorp has flagged we will stop using them and find others.

Bach
Ballard
Bartok
Bethoven
Bizet
Boccherini

While the following list is sadly lacking, it is also known that there are some other poorly toned underground Brotherhood imitators which have been heard using these to excess in public and which we have blacklisted as copycat impostors:

Khachaturian
Mozart
Rimsky-Korsakov
Strauss
Wagner

That seems like it points to Roman Carnival, since its composer was "Berlioz".

I might have a lead here...I'm going to have Bishop bounce it off the "database" before I waste more credits on it. (Approaching 2K credits spent on this...)

I tried what I think my answer is, but no luck. But it's gotta be it.

My thought:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Ride of the Valkyries

It's in line with the "poorly toned underground Brotherhood imitators" list Brother Theo made us keen on. Four of those composers we have already used, one we have not:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Richard Wagner

Went back and listened to it, and it has that same up-up-up-down movement, and is slow enough to be it, but I haven't gotten it to work with the other answers I've entered.

Already PM'd Bishop about it, we'll see...

I thought about Flight of the Valkyries when I saw Wagner's name up there as well, but I couldn't think of a part that fits the (poorly) whistled tune. Flight is a bit more up tempo, and would need more than the four notes given to readily identify itself.

And if Flight isn't correct for Wagner's selection, what else could be? It's the most easily recognized song from Der Ring Des Nibelungen.

OK, let's try this:

Wagnerific Link

This is a link to a version of Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries on Amazon. Click the listening sample for track 6. IMHO, that first few seconds is the closest we've gotten to sounding like whatever that dude is whistling.

Just tried this and it doesn't work either.

1. Vienna Blood Waltz
2. A Little Night Music
3. Roman Carnival Overture
4. Flight of the Bumblebee
5. Les Toreador
6. Celebrated Minuet
7. Sabre Dance

OK, now I'm confused...

So, Ride of the Valkyries is correct, but we must be missing the "familiar" name of one of the others.

So...I've tried many permutations of these and have come up short. Going to try again.

Edit: Tried the following in three different tries, to no avail.

Vienna Blood Waltz
Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
Ride of the Valkyries
Flight of the Bumblebee
Les Toreadors/Prelude to Carmen/Carmen (have also tried Carmen Prelude in the past)
Celebrated Minuet
Sabre Dance

(Thoughts: Could it be "Saber Dance? Also...Bishop did mention in his earlier note to me that my original list was overloaded with info...)

Have a go at it, ladies and gents! I'm officially out of credits now.

I just did every combination of "Vienna Blood Waltz", "Vienna Blood", "Weiner Blut", "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik", and "A Little Night Music" possible. Except for "Weiner Blut" with "A Little Night Music", because that would be silly. I used the standard solutions for the others, of course.

I tried the above and also Minuet instead of Celebrated Minuet. Also I used The Toreador Song. I have spent about 3000 credits on this now and feel it is a little bloody stupid to have to be so exact with the answers. I believe the PM's have simply chosen a few of the tracks on this website.

Yeah, I do wish they added a little bit of language recognition to their input mechanisms. It's annoying to know the correct answer but still not get it due to leaving off a 'the' or something.
