what is interesting about this email is that in the little header at top it says it is a "priority email from Mr. Jones." In EVERY other email (please tell me if I am mistaken) this header say it is from blankSPLAT blank.com - in other words, it gives the sender's email address.
Actually, if I remember right Beth's mom showed up as "Mom" or "Your Mother"
or possibly "Yo Momma" or "Shaft sure is one bad mutha..."
it was so long ago, who can remember?
It was speculated that metadex has some features like other mail clients, and allows you to have an address book, and probably lets you put a name in for that email address, so if its listed in your address book, it gets translated to a more warm and cuddly name, so if kat was interacting with this guy, then she likely had him in her address book/whatever metadex calls it..

that makes sense.
although i don't know why if kat uses her address book for "mr. jones" she wouldn't use it for Beth, or MLO. Personal decision I guess.

I find myself that its a lot easier to remember that I have to mail 'emc2' then to remember rootSPLAT little-boxes.net. So maybe they don't need to have a address book entry since they just need to type there name anyways.. *shrug*

Maybe the Metadex system is set up in a way that if you type the bit before @metadex.net, like emc2, MLO, katgirl or pgairden, it just assumes it is an "internal" mail address and sends it there?

The Matrix Agents:
Agent Brown
Agent Jones
Agent Smith The Reloaded Agents:
Agent Jackson

Agent Thompson
When I listed "Thompson, Smith, Jones" I wasn't specifying which movie they were from. I was just being random. Thanks for the list though.

[random spec] Wait a minute... If Agent Jones is the one who e-mailed Kat, then wouldn't that fact make this whole ARG some sort of prequel to the original Matrix movie?
If you watch Reoaded, you note that Neo finds agent upgrades whilst fighting in the sewers. This would mean that the other agents (Jones and Brown) were deleted, thus making the e-mail sent by Jones quite impossible.
This theory is also supported by the fact that Smith tells Neo right before the Burly Brawl that he was going to be deleted by the source, but he decided to not comply with this request (since he was free thanks to Neo). This means that the others were deleted, since the Oracle also specifies that each time a new(and better) program is created, the old versions (the first agents) get deleted. Since we see the upgrades (again, the Reloaded agents), we can safely infer that the previous ones were deleted, because they were no longer needed by the system.
[/random spec]
Any rebuttals?

It's a nice theory - but it doesn't necessarily have to occur before the first film; it could occur just after it (remember, there was a six month time period between the first and second films). The new agents could have been created/written just a month, or even a week, before Reloaded started. And, also keep in mind that Neo remarked "Hmmm. upgrades."; so he obviously hadn't encountered this type of agent before, yet considering his abilities he would surely have encountered agents during that six month period.
Also, Jones is a fairly common name - it might not necessarily be the same agent, although I'm inclined to think it is.

OoooOO... Hadn't thought of that. Well, I've still got the feeling it's not a sequel to the trilogy, but instead it's a Matrix 1.5 (and that's only if this is official).
Anyways, I'm going to school, so cheers.

I just had another thought on Agent Jones identity: the Agent Jones who sent Katgirl the e-mail might be an upgraded version of the Agent Jones from the first film (Son of Jones? Jones 2.0?).

Prequel would explain the "transferred" status of Anderson, Thomas.
That is to say his transfer was just temporary and he returns in time for the first Matrix......
Though highly unlikely methinks.

Did you ever think that they might have just been patched? The fact that they are in essence identical to the previous agents, with the exception of some better martial arts techniques would lead to that assumption. Complete overhauls seem to leave behind things like the werewolves at the Merrovinigan's place, or Seraph. Besides, "upgrades" points to a better version of the old one, not replacements.

Wouldn't it be funny if "Agent Jones" in this case turned out to be her travel agent? Perhaps an X-Files-like FBI agent?
