like the fact that the first cube has been found? no really though...
Question its unfortinate that they made a card that may be solveable. even though it might not do us any good at this point. besides bragging rights.

Top ten solvers

I'll probably get a trout for this, but I don't have time to sift through 50 pages right now...

Since this will probably get solved soon, what was the policy for who gets to be in the top ten solvers? I seem to remember Guin and Chimera will get sports #1 and #2, then whoever got the winning workunit will get #3. But what about the other seven? Will it be the first seven who enter the answer after it is released?

I was thinking it would be cool if top seven people who processed the most workunits could get them. I'm not sure if the stats would let Guin figure out who these people are, but I think they would. To go further, maybe the top workunit person could be given the answer, then after it is confirmed that they entered it for spot #4, the next person would get it for spot #5, and so on.

Anyways, this may all be moot, but I thought I'd throw it out there while I'm thinking of it.

I suppose this all depends too on if Season 1 cards still have a top ten solvers list. Confused

Difficulty of this card

Those of you working on card 251 might be interested to know
that a challenge to break RC5-64 at RSA has been completed.

The information about the solution can be found at

www1.distributed.net/pressroom/news-20030926.txt

NOTE: you may find it discouraging, and so may want to avoid it.

Joe

typo above

Sorry for the typo, the "3" in the URL above should be a "2".

i.e. www1.distributed.net/pressroom/news-20020926.txt

Fingers must be getting old.

I thinks that's old news - it happened 5 years ago in September 2002. Check the date!

Clients Not Working

I apologise to all for my tardyness in replying formally on the issue and my lack of prescence on the boards. Unfortunately a real humdinger of a work issue came just at the time that my ISP decided to spontaneously change my (fixed) IP address - which you all use for the 13th Labour Server.

Guin is going to place a new CONFIG.TXT file up on the 13th Labour web site, but for those who wish to edit it, you can replace the

203.121.194.74 [hehe - this bit doesn't work and wont ever now]

with

FiFtY EIght D0t E1ghty 4 Dot Two Hundred and Two Dot Thirty Six

And all will be well.

I have been trying to get them to give me a cast iron guarantee they wont do it again - to no avail thus far. But the address has been (fairly) stable for a while - though the connection has some teething issues.

Oh - and on the totally not related work issue, http://chimera245.livejournal.com has the details - an interesting gotcha if you are in the microsoft space and your Timezone, like ours - happens to change definition

The thirteenth Labour has indeed been solved, check out this thread at Welovepuzzles.com http://www.welovepuzzles.com/jforum/posts/list/15/343.page#15656 by parabaloid13 who apparently has special tools available to him. So just Riemann and Billion to One to go Smile
