Corporate ArGs: Can you Save Socrates

I'm sure this shows my relative newbishness in the community, but virtuquest's website announces an upcoming Corporate Arg called "Can you save Socrates" does this mean that the ARG is essentially a private event for team building or training purposes limited to members of a given company/organization or a public game bankrolled by a private corporation for marketing purpose like virtuquest, TLE, or year zero?

Virtuquest is in the business of Corporate Team Building ARGs. Many times they open up the initial part of the game to the public (or a few members of the public) to get the momentum going. But key items/events occur to only the members of the company paying the bill.

When they say "Open ARG", that is for the general public.

*konamouse, however, will no longer participate in anything related to Virtuquest until she gets an apology from Jacob for his release of her private information during TownshipHeights.

You mean they released personal contact information in a public forum without your consent? that makes no sense even for someone not familiar with args to do

Here's what happened as I understand it. I didn't play Township Heights, so please correct me if I'm wrong:

50 players paid $5 each to play the newest VirtuQuest game, Township Heights. They used PayPal to pay the fee. There were two major problems with the game:

A. It lasted only two weeks, despite being pay-to-play.

B. For in-game chats/forums/events, instead of using the nicknames players registered with the system, it used their full names given out when they used PayPal to pay the $5 fee. This all happened without the permission or prior knowledge of the players. Therefore, if they wanted to 'play' the game at all, their personal information was exposed.

I'd be pretty upset, too. Now, granted, ARGers are a pretty trustworthy group, but still.

In TH the only time I really remember being asked to use my name is when logging into their chat. Luckily it wasn't really necessary even though they said it was.
I think it was just a lame attempt at keeping it for the players that paid.
But yeah it annoyed me to.

And what ever happened to the ARGN article on this?
Us players still have not gotten to see the letter they sent in response to our concerns.

I was very sad when this game concluded. I liked the concept and idea but it was very fast.

They actually never used or gave out real names or information, I think they just used hybrid names based on our real names. You actually could still use the chat system and everything else if you used a different name.

I sent virtuquest an email about the Socrates Game, it is closed to the general public and is a team training event. Crying or Very sad

Ah, I must have been mistaken. Sorry about that--I honestly was just basing my post off of the very limited knowledge I had gleaned throughout my travels. Thank you for correcting me.

Well the login name they gave me to use was my real name. I have to trust they will not use that infomation elsewhere. The Township Heights game was a nice concept but I felt a little more could have been done. It also ended too fast. However, since I was relatively new to ARGs in general I found it helpful in getting my feet wet so to speak.

Somewhere along the line I commented how cool it was to design corporate games as a job!
