Good Puzzles From "We Love Puzzles.com" For Your Favorites I think it may be fun to start a thread for people to post their favorite puzzles from the "We Love Puzzles" site (instead of having separate threads or not posting them at all). I'll start it off with this one:
Quote:
Cryptic
[Riddle, Blue]
Von Lubik groaned as he looked at the puzzle page in the Sunday edition of The Perplex City Sentinel. "First crosswords, then cyptic crosswords, cryptograms, and sudokus... and now this? These newspaper puzzles get more and more convoluted with each new generation."
It wasn't even clear what he was supposed to do. Obviously he had six questions he had to answer:
1. Type of snake.
2. City of south France.
3. Bill worth much money.
4. Type of dance.
5. Worse than bark?
6. Marathons.
But the only other thing the newspaper provided was this grid full of even more clues (and none of his possible answers seemed to even fit within the 3x3 grid). Were these connected somehow? Von didn't want to think about how long he'd already spent looking at this thing. All the more frustrating it was because the newspaper assured its readers that the puzzle was, in fact, quite elementary.
Quote:
The Grid:
ABC
DEF
GHI
A. Three cubed
B. ?
C. keys on a piano
D. Brad Pitt Gwenith Paltro movie
E. Herbie the "lovebug"
F. Sum of the first seven prime numbers
G. days in most months
H. cards in a deck
I. days in a fortnight
Numbers for everything except for B:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A. 27
B. ?
C. 88
D. 7
E. 53
F. 42
G. 31
H. 52
I. 14
I believe from here:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Each number corresponts to 1337 letter:
A. RT
B. ??
C. BB
D. T
E. SE
F. AR
G. EI
H. SR
I. IA
But I don't know where to go from there. Possibly:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Question 5 is "BITE", making B=81=BI. Then there's a T, but no E or no TE.
Pretty confused on where to go now.

B. Quincunx
And the number associated with that is
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

I like this puzzle.
Haven't solved it yet but I'm pretty sure its to do with
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

A correction for "F"
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1 is not a prime number, adding then, seventeen instead will bring the number to F=58
But man, this puzzle is going already confusing me.[/spoiler]

The key to this puzzle is one of the words in the body of the question (i.e. not in the actual picture). Once you work out which word is key, then you should be able to see how the numbers can be used...
(oh, and the clue for I is slightly wrong: it should be 16 not 14)

You're welcome!
I don't suppose anyone's managed to make any headway with Mr Pennybag's Cypher have they? (http://www.welovepuzzles.com/permalink/puzzle/542/)
Other than the fact that it's got something to do with
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the Atlantic City version of Monopoly
I'm getting absolutely nowhere...

I've got a feeling that the Leitmark puzzle would be easier if I owned Photoshop. Of course, that's just a guess...
And the Colorful Movies question is throwing me for a loop. I can only get two of the answers, and both of those are from movies I've only heard of, never seen. I need to watch some more film...

Cryptic solve I solved cryptic yesterday, very nice puzzle, apart from a small error. Complete spoiler below
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The numbers refer to elements in the periodic table (hence 'elementary' at the end of the question). If you put the chemical symbol for them in the grid ('I' should actually be 16, not 14), then across and down, it reads
1. Cobra
2.Nice
3.Gates
4.Conga
5.Bite
6.Races
Very nice puzzle.

I'm ashamed to say I can't figure out dominocode.
http://www.perplexcity.com/channel/japanese/codesandciphers/
I mean, it's just a green, and I totally can't figure it out. I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be letters, but I can't find anything that works or produces a proper sentence, and I've tried to look at it from most angles, but nothing. If I could work out the rationale of the code, everything should be cake, but that's always tough for me. I can never see it unless it's blindingly obvious. *sigh*
"A trip to the woods" would be another I can't really work out. Help?

Regarding Domino Code...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Domino Code is a simple substitution cipher like The Dancing Men, only easier because once you pick the right domino to be A it's easy to incrimentally move onwards to figure out what every other letter is.
Oh, and some Unspoken-But-Not-Too-Tough-To-See game parameters:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The set of dominos you use will only use the numbers 0 through 6, no more. Naturally, this means that there are some extra dominos that you don't have to worry about.
Oh, and as a reminder:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Dominos don't repeat. As such, the domino with 2|3 is the same as the domino with 3|2. So when setting up your alphabet, after you've cycled through all the 1|x's, you won't move to 2|1 since the 1|2 domino covers it.
Key to the Solution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The blank Domino is your A. The domino that's half black and has one dot is your B. The domino that's half black and has two dots is your C. Etc.
