How do I create a local one day puzzle ARG?
I am trying to put together a one day ARG at my university and would love some input and suggestions

Hello,
First off I welcome any help or tiny suggestions anyone has based around this topic. I am a Junior computer science major at University of North Carolina Wilmington (www.uncw.edu). I have always loved puzzle solving and know others love them to. I mean this message board is proof. Myself and a friend have never been able to any of the meetings PXC have put together but would love for them to be dynamic somehow. Here are some basic ideas my friend and I have put together:
1) We would like each department on campus to help put together puzzles based on that departments specialty.
2) This should be open to high school students along with university students. We are open to opening it up to the public.
3) Teams are allowed but now more than say ... 5 people? (This is where we don't know how other events have worked).
4) Teams will some how be scored based on puzzle completion times (or something else?).

With the university and community involvment I do not believe money will be an issue at all. We have a theatre here on campus which I'd love to make little movies to expand on story. Please ask any questions and all questions. If you have any ideas on who I should contact about how to begin organizing this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much,
Organic

Location: Here, obviously

You might want to look at past Ravenchase and ObieGame events, as both of those are locally-based puzzle-hunt/ARGy activities.

While there never seems to be a real trail posted, the FestQuest at our ARGFests may be the type of thing he has in mind - short locally oriented scavenger-type hunts with a plot and the goal to find the location of a party at the end. The recent FestQuest hasn't been written up comprehensively, but festquest NYC two years ago (search the forums here) had a lot of discussion about how it was handled.

I'd agree with aliendial's assessment - think scavenger hunt with plot (or even tone) and a straightforward goal (save the princess, find the antidote, capture Carmen Sandiego).

We don't have walkthrus easily accessible, and we're neck deep in planning ObieGame '07, but someone can probably talk via IM or phone in the next couple of weeks if you wanted to hear how we've done things in the past. Email us at obiegame at gmail

Good luck!

Study it start and end at the bar
or it did in my day

When I was at University I play in a game like this (but falls into the real of LARP) all the plays joined up at the start and all take on the role of the bored of the student union. We then found that the collage was haunted by a vengeful sprit that was kill members of the student body. So we set out with a book written in code to looking for the four items that would bind his soul.

But no one ever made any notes or records about it. (I wished I could have filmed it and passed it of as a Blair witch project rip-off.) So I can't give you any helpful links telling you more then I remember.

But the core was the code book and the four items hidden around the town, and from just this it was a fun game.

Is the campus closed or open each has its own problems. Owner as open but in an area where no one care about what you did at 3AM. But your locus my not be as for giving of students doing odd things on the street even in the day light hour.

Good luck
