Hi all, been lurking for a few days and thought I'd pitch in. Have yet to determine whether I'm actually any good at ARGs myself - but at the very least I've enjoyed your work so far. (hi!)

cool another "unintiated" person to play with.. wait.. that might be dangerous.... wish a veteran would log in and comment on both of our observations!! newbies need input! i try so hard not to get trouted and sometimes to tell the truth, i hold back for fear of "stepping in it"...

I like your thinking on Frosty.

Oh wait - this is a description of a 2004 film called Chemistry - according to IMDB. Not sure what relevance yet...

She's saying that she and Q had "Chemistry".

hello, i'm new btw. Smile i've been reading these forums for at least a year (since PoTC Volvo's "The Hunt"), but just took the dive yesterday. I've been reading the faqs and information as hard as i can (well, when the puzzles arent getting to me! haha)

Hey, are you all using the vigener cipher-method to try to decipher the code on the latest entry of Red's blog?

If so, and if you use "Jimmy" as the key, you come up with:
Tgdm cev doukw mcwi hzokelslv ywfs. Anagram much?

Edited to add: Do you think it's coincidence that there's a www and a com in this phrase? other possible words i'm seeing: smith , uk (if not com)

Not following this too closely, So I thought I'd rebuild the original message on whatever blog this is by reversing your decrypt so I could look at the original ciphertext, Encrypting the string you gave with "JIMMY" gives, "Copy and paste your plaintext here".

Just thought I'd let you know you were decrypting the default text from the Vigenere tool you were using and not the original message.

Whoa! I'm sorry. I didn't mean that to come off like it did. I don't wanna be responsible for taking away from your experience. My laziness was the only reason I even came across the discrepancy. Keep posting as that's the only way to keep everyone who's involved in this effort in sync.

I'm OK
Just letting you know. Strange(r) things are happening. I can only be
on for a few minutes, but will update tomorrow, as I have found a
resoruce, but I can only use it on Fridays.

Thanks again guys.

So looks like we may get some new information tomorrow

I'm still struggling to crack that cipher - the Frosty link has not helped at all - I have tried nearly every possible word from that site and the link to Jimmy Durante

Email received

Partly in a plea, partly in a vague hope that the Woman in Red was interested in solutions to her movie riddles, I sent her an email yesterday listing a few of them. Her response is full of references which I haven't looked into yet. There is also a code....

WiR says
Quote:

There's a philosopher somewhere that said that everything is connected. Sort of like Modernist fiction, no? Certainly, the connections are not always tangible, however, they are there. Although Frosty is only a snowman as far as I am concerned. Durante had a long career prior to animation.
There is also more than one way to crack a walnut.

And yes, Smith and I burned up the sheets. In more ways than one. But he has left me with a insiduos legacy, one that I have no interest in, but must solve in order to save myself and now Redford. And yes, strange that we share the same "name". Or is it. Sometimes I think myself too clever. It's a result of writing tripe for newspapers in the US. Grade five level or something, ridiculous. I knew Red before he knew me.

Smith loved certain things. I have some encrypted files that I need to get into, partially to head off the Pinelli's, but I think it goes deeper.
One of the codes is :TABULA FEUD MINI
I stink at these things.

And before you get excited, its not a vigenere using that as the keyword (I was so excited), but haven't looked at anagrams or Rots or anything else yet. I've also tried everything Frosty related, but now she indicates Frosty isn't everything...

And how did she know Red when it was supposedly completely accidental that someone died in front of him?

My email
Quote:

Hello,

We haven't spoken before, but I've been following Red's (seems a popular colour with you two) blog and his plight. In attempting to help Red I came accross your posts on the Pinellis. While I'm unsure what you mean by 'email you the answer' whether it be the decrypted code you sent to Red or the movie you reference I thought I would take a stab.
The movie is a 2004 film, chemistry.

In fact there are a lot of films you've referenced so far:
To have and have not
Frosty the snowman
Chemistry
even:
Woman in red

Am I missing one/something? I can find no overlap or similarity between the imdb sites so far, am I just not looking hard enough?

Thanks for your help, hope to hear from you soon.

Tabula

Sorry for double post, but stuck on everything else still except for:

TABULA FEUD MINI:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Appears to be an anagram of: A Beautiful Mind

But still can't see any commonality. I am speculating that Red's blog code might involve several keywords (see "There is also more than one way to crack a walnut.") - either movie titles or 5 letter keywords to do with movies. Not that I've had much joy with that approach yet.

put your lips together and just blow..

Jimmy D played a character named Jonah J. Whistler in a movie called Land Without Music.

Quick someone good with ciphers plug in JONAH ???? I think we all know I've proven myself futile with codes LOL.

brainstorming
just thinking outloud

While waiting to hear from [size=18] Red ford, and before I found the new info at Woman in Red's page, I was looking at some background info on Redentore, I found this at http://www.cheapvenice.com/redentore-venice.htm
Quote:

Beyond the religious significance of the feast, the most anticipated and exciting moment for both Venetians and tourists is the eve of Redentore (the third Saturday of July - Saturday July 14 2007), when there is the famous night of fireworks. From early in the morning people begin to decorate their boats, or their 'altana', the small wooden terraces on rooftops, from where they can admire the fireworks. Then they prepare dinner for their evening feast. From the early afternoon, Saint Mark's basin fills with every kind of boat (about 1,500-2,000 boats), festooned with balloons and garlands, and thousands of Venetians await the fireworks while dining on the boats. Around 10 O'clock at night, from pontoons placed nearby the island of San Giorgio, the fireworks begin and Saint Mark's basin becomes one of the most atmospheric stages in the world. The fireworks last for around 45 to 60 minutes, illuminating the night and arousing intense emotions in both Venetians and visitors.

Once the fireworks are over, the young people of the city head off to the nearby island of the Lido (Map), a 15 minute journey away by vaporetto or ACTV motoscafo from Saint Mark's and also the venue in September for the Venice Film Festival. Here they go to the beach and sit on the sand and wait for dawn.

I found interesting: connection to this location and the (previously mentioned --but was it followed up on??) Venice Film Festival held later in the year, and all the movie clues that have been thrown around. (smith was an "actor") Lead or co-incidence????

Discuss! Wink
