Wow, honestly I didn't know this bruteforce was still going on.

I just put my computer on it, and it'll be on it for the better part of a week...going at a little over 40 sec per unit. It's not much, but every little bit helps, right?

This mornings outage . . .

. . . was due to a power failure in my suburb - it took out all power for a while, and the fibre network for substantially longer.

All *should* be back to normal now - but I havent had the chance to verify myself yet.

Great news that the project is coming back on track. For what it's worth I put the new IP in the config.txt on my machines and none of them have connected yet. If anyone has it working please let me know.

My systems were all using the new config successfully yesterday, but have been hung up for the last 12 hours (and still not working). Crying or Very sad

Is it possible that when the fibre network was reset you were given a new IP address (again)?? Confused

Because it's always nice to have more than one person with the same problem, ditto. Manually updated the config file, got it all shiny and working and then my lone client couldn't find the server all of today (I wasn't on yesterday).

(PS Love having the 13th Labour status on the PerplexBar Firefox add-on: neat! For the brief while it was going up and up it was great.)

*sighs*

I may need to change ISPs at this rate - but as they are also the fibre provider going off them will be tricky - I'll need to get ADSL set up.

I'll let you know once all is stable . . . but it won't be for at least another 24 hours most likely.

Once again, ta muchly for all your hard work on this, and for letting us know what's up.

Now, at the risk of upsetting someone, I've suddenly been getting those "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled" messages, like people were getting last May (starting from here). I think I've fixed it by redownloading, but wanted to let you know in case there's anything else up.

Application error issue

Hi Myf,

I'm guessing that the problem was that your proc.txt (I think it's that one, one of the .txt's anyway) was empty. I've found that can happen sometimes when the machine crashes whilst 13th Labour is running. If it happens to you again check your .txt files in the 13th Labour directory. Delete it if it's empty, when you restart the client it will recreate the file.

Arguably it's something that the code could self manage but fixing that would require another rollout of code etc..

Cheers,
Mark

BTW - Thanks Chimera245 for the update. I'm looking forward to getting back on track with this card. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Mark

Stable again

After lots of cursing on my part about the ISP - the last outage turned out to be the death throes of the Ethernet Controller on the 13L Server.

I've got a replacement up and running now - but there will be more downtime - probably at the end of the week when I put the old server back up, plus roll out 1.5.0 to beta.

Thanks to all of you who are sitting through this keeping the search going.

What features will be added for 1.5.0?
Do you need any more beta systems? (I've got few that could be switched over... Rolling Eyes )

1.5.0 Beta

We need to return to Phase I shortly, as we are in the last couple of hundred thousand units that have had Phase I processing completed.

The new 1.5.0 client basically will either do Phase II units, or Phase I/II combined (i.e. the remaining 4 million odd Work Units that have had no processing at all).

Down it goes . . .

And Back again.

I swear this server is jinxed - though the attrocious power situation in Ellenbrook does not help.

An Update

Had a few technical issues with the 150 client - so I've delayed releasing that a bit. I've got some performance upgrades to apply (thanks Ix), plus some other stuff - but I want to test it properly. I'm also hoping to allow future extensions of the alphabet (god help us) to be able to be applied without a new client).

I'm also going to have to do some serious thinking about the server - which may affect performance in the short term. I really need to reallocate the box it is on at the moment for my own professional use - and use a rather more generic server as the host for this.

To be honest to workload doesn't really justify the beast that is now hosting it anyway.

I'll also be revisting the Stats tables, as the 'estimate' numbers are now somewhat inaccurate (they overestimate work done by a factor - as they count units ALLOCATED not units COMPLETED)

Server Shenanigans

OK, the main 13L Server is now down and being rebuilt - or at least a replacement scratch server is being assembled from spare parts I have lying around and the 13L Server has gone to bigger/better things.

I'm awaiting one part (which I'll pick up today), then start the process of getting Advanced Server 2003 installed - that's long and tedious but fairly straightforward.

ETA for it's return would therefore be sometime Wednesday - all being well.
