[EMAIL] Open Source Resistance

I just received the following email in my inbox...

Unbelievable, the quality of stuff you have been sending in. Check out the new content on the site-and beyond that, people are starting to submit platforms with real potential. From campus DJs and copy store clerks to people with connections at major networks and publications. This feels like the start of something real. (I'll be sending out the first few connections soon, so please keep them coming. Every voice out here helps.)

Local news-some very serious artists in LA are making a difference in a very public place. Check out the piece near Melrose and Ogden in LA. If you're worried about where this country (and this world) is going, check out their work. It will remind you why you should be worried: but maybe give you a little juice for the fight, too.

Lastly, a few of us are talking about organizing a meeting here in LA. If you're interested, show up at the Melrose location at or a little after 7 pm on this Friday evening (April 13th). Wear something that shows you're one of us. Stand under the big pig and follow the revolver across the street to the van. Knock twice. When you've got the stuff, get out of there fast. Don't attract attention. Don't be followed.

That's it for now. Sometimes it feels like hope is hard to come by. What you're doing makes hope a little easier for me to find.

Neil

Sweet, just got the email too.

Do we know anyone who can go to this in LA? Maybe take a cue from the http://www.artisresistance.com/tools.htm page before you show up. Smile

I'm going to try to do it, but don't count on me. I don't know for sure yet if I'll get transportation.

EDIT- I've been lurking here watching for a while, this just seemed like my first chance to be useful.

This email has revealed a few things.

1. There is a NEW mural in LA. Anyone who can get to Melrose and Ogden should see if they can get to it and get some good pics. Some were taken today, but they are a little blurry. Linky to Linkys

2. There is a slogan at the bottom of the fifth pic down. Linky

The pics were first posted by wendyology on the Spiral forums. The website was first linked on ETS in the thread linked above.

It looks like I've probably got transport, so I'm going to the location unless something goes south.

I need to wear something that shows I'm one of us...

The flag logo perhaps? If anyone has other suggestions as to what that might mean, suggestions are welcome.

/me imagines a mob scene of NiN fans ....

most will hang out by the mural, meeting eachother, shaking hands, checking eachother out.

some will hang back about 100 feet away, afraid to talk to strangers.

a couple adventurous (or ARG experienced souls or already working with liquid courage) will run up to the van and follow the instructions.

leading to the rest of the social mob approaching the van.......

Laughing which could lead to a van being pushed over on it's side? (sorry, just a mental image that couldn't contain itself - truely seriously doubt that will occur - these players are not a mob/riot act).

I vote for riot gear. Maybe get a dozen friends in the same outfits and march around single file, Survivalism style... not that that would be expensive or anything. =)

Is anyone from unfiction going to attend the meeting tonight? I'm very curious as to what it will be.

I'm heading over shortly. I'd be happy to send reports to someone if you'd like.

Just a brief update for those wondering what went on - astralpunch can fill in more since she is the one that was actually there.

50-100 people met at the appropriate location. They then walked over to where the van was and ammunition boxes were passed out. Inside was an AIR kit containing buttons, stickers, flyers, a stencil, bandana and hat. Some boxes had a red star on them and had a cell phone inside.

Astralpunch said she will post photos as soon as she can. Everyone in both chat rooms thanks her tons for relaying the information to us.

I finally got some photos up on Flickr. I'm sorry if there are ones of my finger or any other charming things like that; I'm seriously having the worst time interacting with the Flickr this evening. Photos are at: http://www.flickr.com/groups/360026@N21/

Sadly, we didn't get the cool red boxes with the phones. My theory is that the few people to whom Steve Peters gave yellow pins received the red boxes from the van.

Rowan pretty much got the play by play from me over the phone, so feel free to direct any questions to her or myself. I'm frequently on chat-solutions as astral or astralpunch.
