That is a very good catch, Rason. I just sent an email titled offering, asking them what they would have me give them in return for the knowledge they teach.

JohnnyCon, dude, I love your icon.

Maybe the sites are down because we're going to get a big fat update.

Going along these same lines, The Rune ( X ) Gebo which is displayed on the Membership page means "Gift".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runic_alphabet

Looking at the source from the membership page, the image is titled "commitment".

Perhaps our gift to offer should be commitment?

FYI, the webpages are back up, but there does not appear to be any new content.

New post on Hermod's blog and a new transmission on theyggdrasilreport.atspace.com. I'll start with the new transmission.

Quote:
After that we passed through the Vale of Ar-Thélion and came at last into the region of Dim-Legroth, which is called by the Svartálfar the Deeps of Shadow.

There we found the subterranean fortress of Woden which was said to be a testing ground for the Valkyrie. Hoping to gather some supplies and perhaps free some of the children I went inside with some men. However, when we entered, we found no one there. We gathered the supplies and prepared to leave, but as we were doing so I noticed a note on a desk on which was written:

"Vindhlér has detected Gungnir"

Transmission received: 14.04.2007 11:45 [Tanais Wavebender 9.998%]

Next the new blog from Hermod:

Quote:
I meant to post this earlier, but alas. I received an e-mail yesterday which seemed quite strange. It's definitely Chaucer, but the text is jumbled and makes little sense. Does it mean anything?

What with his wysdom and his chivalrie;
He conquered al the regne of Femenye,
Lete I this noble duc to Atthenes ryde,
How wonnen was the regne of Femenye
By Theseus, and by his chivalrye.

And God it woot, that it is litel wonder;
And as an angel ladde hym up and doun.

With mandementz for fornicacioun,
In scole-matere greet difficultee,
But atte laste he seyde unto the wyf.

And of my wyf the passyng crueltee,
Wepyng and waylyng, care and oother sorwe
Quod the marchant, "and so doon other mo
She sholde hym overmacche, I dar wel swere."
What sholde I yow reherce in special,
Were I unbounden, also moot I thee!
For wel I woot it fareth so with me.

20 By Theseus, and by his chivalrye.

Summoner's Tale (prologue)

9 And God it woot, that it is litel wonder;
14 And as an angel ladde hym up and doun.

Friar's Tale (prologue)

20 With mandementz for fornicacioun,
8 In scole-matere greet difficultee,
5 But atte laste he seyde unto the wyf.

13 And of my wyf the passyng crueltee,
1 Wepyng and waylyng, care and oother sorwe
3 Quod the marchant, "and so doon other mo
8 She sholde hym overmacche, I dar wel swere."
9 What sholde I yow reherce in special,

What I typed is not what you typed.

Where did "deus ex machina" come from?

Deus ex machina means 'god from/of the machine'.

It's a tool from Greek plays- it would symbolize the god that came from nowhere to explain everything.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. I know what 'deus ex machina' means. What I'm asking is where you're getting it -- what relevance does it have to the current turn of events?

Woden allied himself with an otherworldly force that brought great ruin. This force allowed him to set up his own world-wide dictatorship, which was still in power when Dr. Ragnarsson visited there. What was once a peaceful and ancient land swiftly became both industrialized and militarized, and high technology reigned.

All seemed to be going well for Woden, for the swords and arrows of the resistance were no match for his otherworldly weapons. However, unbeknownst to him, the resistance were fashioning their own. It took several years, but eventually they caught up with Woden's forces technologically.

Excerpt from the blog..

Maybe the "ghost in the machine" refers to something discovered in the technology used to defeat the Woden?

EDT: Or even teh Tanais Apparatus? I'm just trying to find any machine reference in the blog.

Thanks hyexistenz! Very Happy

From the note in the new transmission
Quote:
"Vindhlér has detected Gungnir"

I don't remember Gungnir being mentioned so far (so tell me if I'm wrong), but in mythology it's Odin's spear, which never misses it's target, and so sacred, an oath upon its point can never be broken. According to Wikipedia its name means "Swaying One" or "influential" and Vindhlér is one of Heimdall's names.

Maybe the ghost in the machine is another name for Gungnir, whatever that is in this mythology?

Either way I guess we can assume Heimdall Industries has found Gungnir. Maybe we should ask Hermod about it, or ask Hermod to ask about it Confused . Although I have a feeling the eyesofwoden know what it is if we could figure out how to contact them.

Vanir, not Ĉsir

Vanir and Ĉsir are the two warring group of Gods from Norse Mythology.

From the mouthes of the Wikis..

Quote:
In Norse mythology, Gungnir (also Gungni, Gungner, or Gungrir) was the name of Odin's javelin. The javelin's name means "Swaying One" or "influential". According to Snorri Sturluson's Skáldskaparmál the javelin was fashioned by those dwarfs known as the Sons of Ivaldi under the mastery of the blacksmith dwarf Dvalin . It was obtained from the dwarves by Loki as a partial reparation for his theft of Sif's hair. It has the practical characteristic of always hitting the target it was hurled against. The war between the Aesir and the Vanir officially started when Odin threw a javelin over the heads of an assembly of Vanir gods. Whether or not this was Gungnir is unclear.
