New ARG?
Looking for a new one

I've been meaning to try ARGs for a while, but I never knew where to look. Now that I've found this site, I'm having trouble finding one to try out. What's a fairly new ARG that's not so far along that I can't catch up?

EDIT: Moved to Player Guide area. --Phaedra

Welcome! Always great to see new ARGers in the community. Smile

If puzzles are your thing, try Them Earth Meteors. There are only three pages of thread, but it's a little thick. It's definitely over my head--but if that is where your interests lie, it certainly looks like it'd be fun to check out!

Something a little more friendly might be Briefcase From a Dead Guy, which is (fortunately) a lot better than it is titled. There are 11 pages of thread, but most of it is fairly light. The puzzles are not too complicated, and the narrative is compelling and well-written.

Day 21, which launches on April 15, seems to be more of an interactive story than an ARG in that it can be experienced individually, with as much or little interaction as you'd like. It runs by releasing chapters of a written story every day; after each chapter is released, you can interact with the characters in the story via chat, email, etc. If you want to become immersed in exciting fiction, this is probably the ARG for you.

World Without Oil, which launches at the end of the month, has not officially started yet; however, the 'pregame' (basically the little bits of info we players are given to get us pumped up about the ARG) has begun, and there is quite a bit of material! There are 11 pages of thread, most of which is speculative and not thick. Also, there are plenty of opportunities for interaction. This one looks as though it will be very big, so now is a great time to get in on the ground floor.

Hacksaw is another ARG that hasn't really kicked off yet; however, we're not sure if it will ever amount to anything. At this point, there are 11 pages of almost all speculative thread and only one (very high-quality) video on YouTube. Catching up on this might be worthless, as it may be 'over before it starts,' but if you're interested it's something to consider.

Odina Nova, which launched in October and (after a hiatus) recently picked up again, is about 8 pages of thread. It looks to be a high-quality, free-hosted grassroots game, and the story deals with Norse mythology.

The above games are all ARGs that have not yet 'slammed into high gear' and are all located in News and Rumors. Most of the games in their own sections are fairly far in, and thus would be more difficult to catch up on. The below games have already expanded to their own sections, but you could catch up on them if you really wanted to.

Perplex City, which has (unfortunately) always seemed rather daunting to me, is starting their 2nd Season soon. If you wanted to be a part of something big (and buy cards!), this is the ARG to do it. However, you'd probably need some familiarity with the original storyline, so you'd have some reading to do before you jumped into Season 2.

Heroes 360 seems to be an 'extended reality' of the popular TV show Heroes. I haven't been playing/lurking/anything-ing, but at 45 pages I assume that it's fairly popular.

The Human Pet, a horror ARG that features a series of horrific videos of a 'human pet,' has been running since October 2006. It has a devoted fanbase of players and, although I have not been playing along, seems to have a very enthralling (though scary) story.

Hope this helps! Happy ARGing! Smile

If you need any help or anything feel free to PM me. I'm playing/waiting to play a pretty good chunk of these games.

Currently playing: Heroes 360, Perplex City season 2/Stories

Waiting for: World Without Oil, tLemporary, Day 21 (having problems taking off I think)

So far Heroes 360 is almost just an extension of the show. I actually started playing ARGs this way through the Regenesis Extended Reality. They're fun but I'd personally play a more involving type of ARG.

World Without Oil's pregame is actually pretty good so far. We've been able to contact the main characters before we play the actual game. I'm thinking this is your best bet if you want a very involved ARG that connects with the possibilities of what will happen when we have an oil crisis. It's made by 4orty2wo, a major ARG company so it's probably going to be really good.

Perplex City is pretty fun so far eventhough we're currently solving the puzzle cards and only have a video outside of them with a connection to Perplex Stories. Each card has a puzzle on the front and something to do with Perplex City on the back. It's a city that is almost parallel to ours but it's more futuristic as far as I can see. Please note that I haven't been playing this for very long. The online component is supposed to start in June. There are four 'waves' of cards and the first has just been released a little while ago (I forget the date).
