Game-style explanation from CtW

I mailed a couple questions to CtW asking for any clarification they'd be willing to give, and they provided the following (including permission to share the info):

Thanks for your interest in Chasing The Wish and in helping put Behind The Scenes. Yes, you can still play the actual game even though you are selected to help out in a limited production capacity. Depending on what you would be asked to do, only a small part of any puzzle or scenario would be revealed to you. If it is something like hiding an artifact for the game, then of course you wouldn't be allowed to "discover" that particular item. In fact, you would instrumental in monitoring the item and the local
players' progress in locating it.

As far as "winning" the game, I hope this doesn't disappoint you but the game isn't to really have "a" winner and there isn't any prize for playing, except for the experience itself. The people asked to particpate Behind The Scenes will be "rewarded" in some way for their help. depending again on what they are asked to do. Players will be allowed to keep whatever real world objects they find and there will be other items distributed by other means during the course of the game, but there is not grand prize or anything like it. Instead the game is a piece of interactive fiction that contains puzzles and puzzle-like mysteries for the players to figure out in order to advance the story. I hope this answers your questions.

I agree. Games like "Push, NV", "Noah Boddy" and even "Search4E" changed the dynamic of the ARG by playing to people's greed. There has been less cooperation because everyone clamors to get a prize and hoards their information.

I for one have fond memories of large groups of Cloudmakers coming together to SHARE their information and work things out together. People with arcane knowledge of opera helping out crack mathematicians.

Sure, some of us got prizes in the end (a nifty submerged-NYC streetlight adorns my desk at home), but we didn't play for them. We played for the fun.

Let me throw my hat into the "Huzzah for no prizes!" ring.

Very Happy

cooperation

I too am looking forward to a more cooperative environment. Although I think I have been lucky so far in people sharing ideas and progress, etc. I also know there are players out there that refused to give til they got first. Well I for one am willing to share 100%. I've always enjoyed the game more than the ending. Afterall, the end means it's over - boohoo. This game is definitely getting more intriguing each day. It's nice to know that we will HAVE to cooperate in order to solve it due to the local pieces of the puzzle that must be gathered. Unless of course someone is willing to donate their personal private jet to aid in the search (lol). Sorry, mine's in the shop this millenia.

Good Luck to Everyone, I plan on watching my sector with Eagle Eyes.
