[META] I can't believe the negativity

Wow. I'm not usually one to tell people how to think or feel, because everyone is entitled to their opinion, but could we take a step back for a second here?

First of all, we got 2 solid months of puzzles, story, and entertainment, for free.

Secondly, nobody asked you to participate. You didn't have to pay to sign up, and you weren't forced to follow along.

[EDIT: incorrect speculation removed from this general area... Thanks for the truth Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy ]

Not to put words in the PMs mouth, but, they don't "owe" you anything.

Despite not giving the closure that some of you wanted, I like the idea of not having every single little thing wrapped up in nice little boxes Wink ... It's nice to have a little bit of mystery left, to allow you to answer your own questions. Often a "full disclosure" ending won't have the same impact and meaning as an ending where you imagine and speculate what would have or could have happened.

Yes, it can be frustrating when you don't get to see what happened to all the characters, but you know what? Get over it. Instead of dwelling on that, think about all the enjoyment you had solving puzzles, getting phone calls (!!!), making phone calls, chatting on AIM with Beth Mr. Green , etc, etc. It was a fun game, with lots of websites, lots of puzzles that took some incredible minds to solve them, some great music (the picture - so sad), and excellent writing (Go Dina! Smile ).

The journey is what matters. It's not where you're going, but how you get there that counts, and the ride was great.

So there Razz

Have to agree with the bulk of this. Although, sadly, I never got the full 2 months of fun as I only found out about it 3 weeks ago. Even so, I've thoroughly enjoyed the story (even if the ending seemed a little sudden - I was getting very excited about possible future developments), was seriously impressed by some of the puzzles, and even more amazed by the solves. I also quite like the fact that some things were left hanging - what's going to happen to Beth now? After all, the agents have a file on her... Is The Aquapolis going to kill more people than the agents ever manage to? Will Metacortex have any more "transferrals"? And so on - which brings me on to my pet theory. Am I the only one who thinks this feels more like the opening book in a trilogy than a complete story? If so, it puts the ending in a completely different context.

Course, this was my first ARG, so I have no idea how original the methods used were. I don't know any ARG history but FWIW I liked the fact that no one actually won - it was more of an interactive story to me than a "game" as such, and this seems fairly original.

Rambling again - oh well Embarassed I liked it - and with a couple of days hindsight, that includes the ending. [/my 0.02]

I second the Amen. I've actually really really grateful that I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to discover this ARG, so I've been doing this...oh, for a long time now. Started sometime in the summer, I suppose. How freaky is it that I can't remember exactly when it was? Feels like a long time.

The ride has been amazing. I just started listening to "The Picture" and got a lump in my throat. Hmm...I wonder if I can sue the PMs for my inevitable future therapy expenses. Mr. Green Seriously, I've had a fantastic, incredible time. I think that I can understand anger if you just recently found out about this, just got all caught up, and found that it had ended. In that case, frustration is totally understandable, but the PMs aren't at fault if they didn't give you a long enough chance to play. Luck is all it is.

I'm going to stop babbling now and just say that I agree with Bakntime. Mr. Green

I'll take a third Amen over here, barkeep... Smile

Seriously, I don't know what the big deal is with the way it ended. So nothing is all wrapped up neat and tidy, that's the way a lot of stories end. There was closure enough; Jesse, Ethan and co., which were pretty much the focus of this whole story get their prolly-not-so-good ending. Beth, being changed by all that, moves on with her life, Phil gets outfoxed by a wily "spiritual" con-man and is left to cry in his beer, and Ormand? Well, he seemed kinda clueless from the get-go, so he's still clueless, it seems. Wink And Kat? Well... THIS tells all... or does it? Mmm, delicious mystery.

All the characters move on with their lives (Well, Kat's questionable) and so do we. End of story, curtain call. Suits me just fine.

And I definitely agree with bakintime on this point; The PMs have spent not only a good amount of jink on this story, with no such obligation on our part, but their blood, sweat and tears as well. AFAIC, they don't owe us jack.

Ok, I was curious, so I looked it up. It was August. August 20th. That's when the game was discovered, and I started messing around with the flash to see what was going on. Mr. Green Then it went quiet for a while until the press release came out on Sept. 19th. That's when things really got interesting.
So not summer, but not Oct. 1st either. Like I said, it feels like a while. Very Happy

As some of you guys will probably of noticed I am not one for long speeches, just short (annoying) comments or replies often quoting others but I have to agree with the main points of this thread. The PMs did a really good job and created one of the most intersting and involving games I have ever played. I loved every minute of it from trying to catch up by reading pages and pages of posts to meeting new people from all over the place. It has been great and I feel like I've made a whole bunch of new friends from this co-operative style of "gaming".
Bless you all.
PMs and Players alike, I salute you! Very Happy

I gotta agree as well.

I got into this because of the Matrix draw, and I was one of those in the beginning thinking the ARG'ers didn't know what they were talking about, hacking is what the Matrix community does, so a game set in the world of the Matrix should EXPECT to be hacked. We thought that was the whole purpose, hack it to get answers Wink

Of course, now I understand the whole concept of the puzzles, but in the beginning we were all looking at it from a completely different concept.

But, just as much as I enjoyed the game, the story, the puzzles... I really enjoyed the group of people and the community we formed... and I really hope we can all go on to solve other puzzles together.

Oh, and maybe we can get together on #matrix every year on October 1st -- we've gotta find *some* reason for the picture, right?

I gotta say I had fun playing the game.

My most favorite parts were when I felt like a complete brainless twit while some of the puzzles were being solved. Or maybe my favorite part was sloughing off work to check the forums and the sites for anything new. It was all good.

I got distracted by Oct 1st EYE SEE and did not follow the storyline as well, but I eventually got it.
