[S7] New site, but possibly fake

Found by thelost1 over at SSS

www.vector-sigma.org

password MEGAMAN

I think its fake, but let's get some more opinions.

http://www.buzznet.com/groups/stopsectorseven/forum/topics/12031/

HOWEVER... there's a PDF document in there that has a UK country code phone number... and elsewhere we know that S7 got scared when someone mentioned their "UK counterpart"

hmm... so har dto tell. it's very well done, and has lots of stuff, but there's a blatant F* bomb in an email, some of the typical UI functionality has changed for no reason (like single clicking an icon to open, rather than double), and one email refers as an address command@vector-seven.org which doesn't exist, because it should be vector-sigma.org - an easy mistake to be caught (and should have, and would have, IMO)

quite suspicious...

edit: IMO, gamejack

It is the subtle difference that make me think it is fake... here's a quick list:

-Log-in screen is arranged differently.
-There is no denied login functionality... only the correct password will do anything.
-Logos on the bottom of the screen are not identical.
-The videoclip has an IGN waterseal
-Cannot select text from the e-mails
-There is no really new content

I'll catalogue as fake in my book until something proves to me that it is not. Probably someone got creative with the N44E, UK Counterpart reference in an informant e-mail.

Probably the very informant (sandcastlebuilder) was already working on this knockoff when S7 humored his post but adding a remark to his e-mail.

it seemed alittle odd on the movie forums (where the url came from) the member that posted about the VS site and password, was a new member only posting that one time. but i didnt wanna discount it right off the bat...

masterfwiffo has been a movie forum member sence july 2005 with almost 2400 posts and part of his name was a password for s7
so not sure figured time would tell...

Do you have a link to this member/post? How did you find the password?

[EDIT] Never mind... Vecor Sigma is a fan site:

Vector Sigma was started by a group of X's followers from the Don Murphy boards. It was supposed to be something like what we have here, but ended up being a mock-S7 interface. While whoever designed it did a good job imitating the Sector Seven site, it does not provide any useful information. What is contained in the Vector Sigma site and more can be found on the Sector Seven sites.
Still, props to whoever created Vector Sigma, they did a nice job. If they added more to it, it'd be more useful.

That's the second disappointment today!

Here is the link to the board where the Vector-Sigma site was mentioned... http://boards.transformersmovie.com/showthread.php?t=9705

In the same thread Masterfwiffo says:

Yes that's me yo. EVERYBODY there (with the possible exception of Sciencehottiewhatshername and maybe another guy or two) is a bunch of fans having way too much fun with that whole Sector 7 thing. Don't look too far into it.

Err, I mean...

ALERT! WE'VE BEEN FOUND! Agents 76 and XBV move in and ELIMINATE!

And one more quote for the heck of it:

And, over in the SSS Boards on Buzznet, RisingDragon11 posted some info regarding the Vector-Sigma site...

Now, that alone is enough info for me to discredit the site, and this, along with the InverseApprentice situation... I'm seriously thinking Masterfwiffo is not trustworthy as well... Here's my argument regarding the IA mess...
During the InverseApprentice situation, I was pointed out to Master's signature over at the Allspark Forums http://www.allspark.com/forums/index.php?s=fb3ea50048307f0a459fd199c305ec9c&showuser=4279 , and he was using the signature posted below.

Now, InverseApprentice supposedly lived in San Francisco,Ca while Masterfwiffo lives in Livermore,Ca... 50 miles away. As such, when IA had put up his posts about being followed by Barricade & Frenzy, Masterfwiffo told him to contact him- as he might be able to help him... As far as I know, Masterfwiffo is the only person to actually contact him outside of the Buzznet boards... even saying that he'd gone as far as to have DRIVEN to his house after their IM conversation made a turn for the worst...

I don't know... I'm thinking Masterfwiffo created the InverseApprentice user to play with us... or teamed up with someone else to come up with the 'story' about Inverse... but that's just my suspicion, and I wanted to see what others thought about it...

OH, one last thing... Could we keep OOG discussion OFF of the Buzznet site? I think it's hard enough keeping everything straight, and I don't know how others feel about it, but think things should be kept seperate between the two...

No problem... I guess buzznet is our "role playing ARG" then.

Well, I'm still pretty new to ARG's in general, and being made an Admin over at the SSS site is making it all a bit more confusing for me... The "Out of Game" references over there don't seem to work very well, as it appears that most of us there are Role-Playing... ("I didn't know we were playing a game." is still my favorite quote from someone posting a OOG reference!)

But, you've been around the ARG block more than I have, so your opinion would be helpful for this rookie...

Thanks again,
Methusalen

Well, the IG/OOG boundary is an important one because it enhances the experience. For instance, in I Love Bees, answering a phone call was always in game... if anyone failed to play the part then it would have gone downhill fast.

With this ARG, Unforums is clearly OOG and our place to speculate what the truth is, but it looks like SSS is a place where suspension of disbelief needs to kick in full gear and we should all play our roles... however, not all members seem to be aware of that. We might just have to let it be.

Vector Sigma is definitely OOG, it was cooked up by a bunch of fans over on Don Murphy's forums.

They plotted it in this thread: http://www.donmurphy.net/board/archive/index.php?t-17699.html

Well done, and well intentioned, but don't look to it for first hand data
