I didn't want to start a new META thread for this small observation, but I noticed the Eldritch Errors website has both a black and a white version.

Good vs Evil? Black Hat vs White?

But the only way to get to the black page is from the google cache?

I don't know if it is or not, I just know that when I went to EE today it was white and I was scritchin' my head, wondering if I was mistaken, but was sure it was black when I was there yesterday or the day before....

So yes, I guess the only way to view it at present is via GC, but I was just making a wee observation in case tomorrow it's black again, and other people think they're seeing things too. Very Happy

(css_white.css/css_black.css)

Doubt it's of any significance whatsoever - I guess I'm bored and looking for something to actually do or find....lol

Speaking of which I started wondering if maybe this "immersive horror series" isn't going to an ARG in the classical sense. I'm not up on my terminolgy, but maybe it's "immersive fiction" (as I understand it) rather than an ARG, or a hybrid of sorts?

There hasn't seemed to be much to do since the package arrivals besides the initial discovery of SentryOutpost.com, and I'm skeptical about every craigslisting getting a package...in which case would mean the craigslistings are being used as a player draw-in and a narrative vehicle.

I dunno - just trying to move forward somehow....but this is also coming from someone who likes the puzzle side of ARGs more than the story (and yet I don't care for pure Puzzle Trails - so I must like some plot...lol)

I've spent the past week scouring for possible new sites and possible commercial tie-ins...more because my hands are idle than because they may or may not exist. Very Happy

My take on the situation.

There were packages designed to draw in the uF crowd (and to get the Lovecraft folks into the ARG universe). We find Sentry Outpost (set up by the PMs to create in IG method for sharing information between players).

There are characters that *we* know are characters but any new folks coming into the story (via the advertising) may not know they are characters - and think they are real people (and I'm sure each one is being done by a real person who has taken on that persona for the story).

We come in first to help set up the backdrop and provide puzzle-solving experience.

The advertising, the direct links on Brian's blog (he has his fans), and perhaps curious people who stumble across the Craigslists posts, all lead to BSeeingU.com and, via googling, to uF and Sentry Outpost.

The characters on SO have hinted that the Craigslists may have a story to tell. That is the immersive fiction part.

But we have character interaction in an alternate reality so to speak - and puzzles. Fits within my personal circle of ARG.

However, YMMV.

Google cache of http://www.eldritcherrors.com/ from 21 Apr 2007 01:42:50 GMT shows the black version.

I made a hardcopy on 21 Apr 2007 18:01 GMT and it shows the white version.

EDIT: perhaps it depends on the time

Yeah...it may be something that will have to play out a bit before I can decide if it's for me or not. It's not a good/bad thing, just a preferential thing. As far as ARGs go, I'm used to experiencing the story rather than reading it, and B.A.'s story just makes me want to take action of some sort...lol

I keep thinking we're missing something big...

And when we find it, we'll all have a collective "Duh!" moment. Wink

I'm feeling the same way--itching, feeling like we've missed something, some clue, some solve. So I keep checking back here.

I don't think this is pure immersive fiction. We found the Sentries by solving a puzzle. After we solved that puzzle, the site got "listed" in "advertising" for lack of a better way to put it.

So it's clear that at least at the beginning, there was some puzzle solving to do. I think if this was supposed to be a case of simply immersing yourself in a story, we wouldn't have received packages (some of us still haven't Crying or Very sad ) with something to decipher.

I think the problem is that we have a lot of holes when it comes to the red circled words, which is an obvious unsolved puzzle. We don't have a full picture with the watercolor either, which indicates to me that it's not just a matter of us having all of the pieces and not putting them together right.

I sort of feel like that is going to be the solve that kick-starts this into action.

Have patience, grasshopper. Or cricket.

See, as of this moment (10:50pm Eastern) it's black again.....I'm not crazy!
...well I am a little, but that's besides the point. Wink

It means absolutely squat, but heh.

It's ok, when I clicked on the "Black" and "White" links I got the exact same page so you aren't crazy unless I am VERY blind!

Well it looks as though Eldritch Errors is using a type of timer?clock?sundial?....

I think that the white is shown in the day and the black at night. In addition, I think the actual gif logo changes as the day wears on, like an hourglass of sorts [or a waxing and waning moon]. I can't actually verify this until...well...some time has elapsed, but the gifs below tell at least a little story.

Check out the "O" in Errors. I won't bother posting the whites, they are the same as the black (same numbering system)....also there is a logo_black and a logo_white (no numbers) but they look the same as the #4s in the sets to me.

Of course this most likely means nothing to the actual story, but I thought it might be interesting to post.

Edited to re-attach posts...

I think the white and black versions of this website are changing approximately at 11:00 GMT (white) and 23:00 GMT (black).

Not sure about that. Yesterday, I saved a copy at 4:13:06 PM EDT (-4 GMT), and it was white. Later at 6:49:27 PM EDT, the copy I saved was black. Also, I have only seen the red in the circle on the right side - and both my saved pages, black and white have the same amount of red.

Sorry, I forgot the daylight saving time (+1 hour).

My standard time zone is UTC/GMT +1 hour, but current time zone is UTC/GMT +2 hours.

=> The white and black versions of this website are changing (in Germany) approximately at 10:00 GMT (white) and 22:00 GMT (black).

What happened to my attachments?
Were they removed for some reason, or was it accidental when the thread was split?

BTW: Now that some time has elapsed since finding the differing gifs, I don't think they're changing with the hours, but maybe with this "pilot chapter"? As we move through this part of the story, maybe that "O" will go through its waxing and waning?
