Had a short conversation with Mat tonight, looks like the plan's changing.

Hey Lewis

Hey Mat
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:15):
I've found something out
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:16):
I have a few friends inside London Operations
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:16):
they've told me Jennifer is now trusting no-one
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:17):
she now thinks there's a leak
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:17):
after I didn't show up
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:17):
So I'm guessing she won't be sending out any updates to you guys anymore because of this
Lex says (22:1Cool:
That's a shame. It was useful info, or at least what we got was
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:19):
I've also heard she's putting most of her efforts into finding me
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:19):
which is why I had to go dark for a bit
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:19):
I'm currently staying with my father, which is probably the safest place I could be
Lex says (22:20):
It was a shame I couldn't get in touch on Sunday, but I see why now. So whereabouts are you, and your father, now?
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:20):
Still in England
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:22):
Since I'm in hiding, I'm considering sending out the information package
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:22):
As opposed to going out in public, which is much to dangerous at this time
Lex says (22:23):
Let me know what you decide to do. I can see the pros and cons either way. We wouldn't want the package to get lost in the post.
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:23):
I would disguise it, as per standar practise with delicat information
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:24):
Would you be willing to recieve the package?
Lex says (22:25):
Of course.
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:25):
I'll make the preperations, and will be in contact sometime this week
MD - Tom Loveday says (22:25):
Thankyou Lewis

Sounds promising. Maybe he should split the contents and send to two or three different people, in case bits get intercepted (OK, I admit it's also cos I want to get mystery post stuff, but......)

hmmm....maybe it would be better to get the stuff out of the country....i wouldn't want any harm befalling any of my british friends. Yes, Mat should send the package to me in the states...then there's no way Jenifer could come to my house with her henchmen and torture me until i hand over the package.

basically, i want some goodies.

Sounds like a good idea to me, both in security terms and in all you guys wanting swag terms Smile

If you PM me your addresses, I'll talk to Mat next time I see him about and tell him about the idea.

More unfortunate problems, this time Windows is to blame. See the transcript for details - hopefully we can get the file again at some point.

Quote:
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:19):
Hello?
Lex says (21:19):
Hey
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:20):
My name is Michael
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:20):
I'm Mat's father.
Lex says (21:20):
Hi Michael. How's Mat doing?
TL - Dave Tolomy sends:
(there was a video file here for download)
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:21):
Well he was staying with me in Kent
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:21):
but yesterday he took off
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:21):
he left this video on my computer.
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:21):
I can't make any sense of it.
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:21):
I understand you were helping him?
Lex says (21:22):
That's right. It's a long story, and I'm sure I don't even know half of it.
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:23):
Ha, I don't even know him anymore.
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:23):
Changing his name and personality all the time, I think he's forgotten who he even is
Lex says (21:24):
I think that's why he wanted to get out of it. He said something about being tired of it, I think. He just wants to be a normal guy again, you know?
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:24):
That's understandable. I never thought he should join London Operations
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:25):
Infact that's why Jennifer and I seperated
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:25):
I tried to get Mat away...
TL - Dave Tolomy says (21:25):
but jesus, there's no stopping a woman like that.

You have successfully received PICT0175.AVI from TL - Dave Tolomy.

Lex says (21:2Cool:
I'm sure we all know someone like that, heh. So what's the story with London Operations, anyway? Do you know what they do?
Lex says (21:31):
Hm, that's strange. Windows told me the file could be harmful, and seems to have just deleted it. Damn.

Odd. I'm happy for it to be emailed to me to see if it might run on one of my machines.

EDITed!

Michael came back online. After much mucking about, I realised what was wrong with the file (technology is stupid) and it's also uploaded.
Quote:
Lex says (22:3Cool:
Hey. Did you get my message about the video not working?
TL - Dave Tolomy says (22:3Cool:
Yes, sorry, I had to take a call.
Lex says (22:39):
No worries. Do you mind sending it again, or emailing it to me? It's completely gone.
TL - Dave Tolomy says (22:40):
I'll try sending it again, and if that fails I'll look into alternatives
TL - Michael sends:

Open(Alt+P)
Lex says (22:44):
So anyway. As I was saying before you had to go, "So what's the story with London Operations, anyway? Do you know what they do?"
TL - Michael says (22:45):
Of course, I was married to the person in charge.
TL - Michael says (22:45):
What do want to know?
Lex says (22:46):
A basic overview would be nice. The impression I managed to get was secret agent, 007-type stuff. I'm probably way off-base, heh
TL - Michael says (22:47):
There used to be a branch of MI5 which looked at the smaller picture.
TL - Michael says (22:47):
You hear about them and their counter terrorism plans, operations all over the world.
TL - Michael says (22:4Cool:
Well London Operations was a smaller task force which directly deals with London
TL - Michael says (22:49):
Not just terrorism, but also corrupt polticians, cheating business men, etc
TL - Michael says (22:50):
It became such an asset, the decision was made in 2002 to make us a full time agency.
TL - Michael says (22:51):
Jennifer stayed head of the taskforce
TL - Michael says (22:51):
I was effectively second in command.
Lex says (22:52):
So, basically, large-scale undercover work?
TL - Michael says (22:52):
We're an intelligence agency. We gather intelligence.

You have successfully received PICT0175.AVI from TL - Michael.

Lex says (22:54):
Right, let's see if I can open this file this time.
Lex says (22:55):
Actually, I have a better idea. I'll back it up, by sending it to myself via email, first.
TL - Michael says (22:55):
Good plan.
TL - Michael says (22:56):
If all else fails, I'll host it online
Lex says (22:57):
That sounds like a plan.
Lex says (22:57):
Do you mind if I ask you a few more questions?
TL - Michael says (22:5Cool:
I have nothing to hide.
Lex says (22:5Cool:
Thanks How long ago did you leave London Operations?
TL - Michael says (22:59):
After Mat was recruited, in early 2006.
TL - Michael says (22:59):
I had a disagreement with Jennifer.
TL - Michael says (22:59):
I left the agency, and the country.
TL - Michael says (23:00):
A boy of 16 has his whole life ahead of him and I did not appreciate Jennifer taking control.
Lex says (23:00):
I understand completely. I think I can see both sides of the argument, but I'd agree with you on this one.
Lex says (23:01):
In the end, it should be his choice, not his mother's, what he does with his life. At least, that's my opinion.
Lex says (23:02):
So where did you go once you fled? And when did you come back to England?
TL - Michael says (23:02):
That's pretty much what I said.
TL - Michael says (23:03):
I don't think Mat even got say...
TL - Michael says (23:05):
Did the file come through okay?
Lex says (23:05):
It looks like it, this time
Lex says (23:07):
Maybe not. Strange. I can get video for the first half, then it goes weird.
TL - Michael says (23:0Cool:
http://beta.zshare.net/download/48018ff265a2c7648daeffa373382d92/1178229202/1765278/pict0175.avi
TL - Michael says (23:0Cool:
I've uploaded it online, here is the direct download link
Lex says (23:09):
Thanks. I'll give that a go, perhaps it was just MSN's file transfer being odd.
TL - Michael says (23:09):
Possibly.
Lex says (23:15):
Strange. For me, even on that version the video cuts out half way through (as he's turning the phone off, maybe?)
TL - Michael says (23:15):
do you see him text the word help
TL - Michael says (23:15):
to ALAN2
Lex says (23:15):
I saw that much, yes.
TL - Michael says (23:15):
Thats all I have
TL - Michael says (23:16):
39 seconds
Lex says (23:16):
Hm. That much is fine, but the video tells me it's over a minute.
TL - Michael says (23:17):
Oh, well ignore the stupidity of modern technology then.
Lex says (23:17):
Haha, okay then. Well, I can't say I know who ALAN2 is, but I'll see if I can find out. Unless you have any idea?
TL - Michael says (23:1Cool:
I don't remember anyone by the name of Alan at London Operations
TL - Michael says (23:1Cool:
but I haven't been there for over a year
TL - Michael says (23:1Cool:
and of course it oculd have nothing to do with LO
TL - Michael says (23:19):
The name means nothing to me.
Lex says (23:19):
Okay, I'll have to look into it. I suppose you'll be trying to find out, too?
TL - Michael says (23:20):
My son comes up to scotland to see me, he tells me to come and meet him in London shortly after.
TL - Michael says (23:21):
He's rented me a flat in Kent and now he's vanished again.
TL - Michael says (23:21):
He said he's onto something big but he won't tell me specifics.
Lex says (23:23):
Hmm. Well, I'd love to stay and chat but I've got to go. I'll talk with you later.
TL - Michael says (23:23):
Thanks for the help.
Lex says (23:23):
No problem. Thanks for the answers.

To recap, the video is at http://beta.zshare.net/download/48018ff265a2c7648daeffa373382d92/1178229202/1765278/pict0175.avi. You'll probably have to go to the download link. It's about 40 seconds long, Mat texting the word "help" to someone named Alan2.

So finally a bit of a clue in as to the relationships between Mat, Jennifer and his dad. So his mom seems like a crazy person and his dad seems all nice and reasonable. Is this reminding anyone of Alias? That's good and now we know they're part of MI5. *cue the Bond music please* Yay so info is great...

Random thought:
the way Mat types the message, I'm thinking the 2 in Alan2 may be an A - so the name would be Alana perhaps? If I see Michael tonight I'll see f that's a possibility.

Not sure how his phone works but maybe ALAN2 is just the designation of the second number for an Alan that he has in his phone? Or maybe he has phone to msnm/aim/yahoo messaging or something?

coffeegirl18 wrote:

That was MI6 Wink

There's a FAQ by MI5 about itself that explains the MI5/MI6 thing and some other good information here: http://www.mi5.gov.uk/output/Page254.html. And since I don't trust an intelligence agency to actually talk about what I want to know, here's the wiki page as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MI5. You know, just if anyone's interested. ^^

Edit: Ah, the basic difference between the two is that MI5 is charged with internal operations (IE, inside the country) and MI6 with external operations (overseas in other countries, hence the spy connections).

Oooh. This looks like a fun game. Can I join in, please? Smile

I have the world's slowest Internet connection ever, and am having issues with the video (i.e. can't view it). Is it just someone texting someone else?

A thought: If the '2' in ALAN2 is a letter, it's more likely to be C, from when you press the '2' key once too many times. ALANC - the initial of a surname, perhaps?

Another thought that occured to me, was that if Mat/Val/whoever has a million names, maybe Jennifer has anagrams too?

Hope I'm not posting too much random rubbish there... Smile
