On the note of "similar dreams," the most recent NYC one reminds me of the Winnipeg "firefighter" one from the 13th...but Winnipeg turned out to be someone's package, right?

I'm still working on this, but my theory is pretty solid that the story or stories are what she sees as she walks through her dreams (nightmares to me Smile ). The biggest trouble I am having with ordering this are the places where she says "I'm awake." I think that Carmen Miranda is right in that it alternates. I also think that the parts that lead to "I'm awake" are the end of the story.

I also noticed two places where she sees someone who is not afraid and who has hope. One in Burlington and one in NYC. These make me happy.

I love this kind of puzzle. Very Happy

craigslist ads distributed over time

I made a spreadsheet of all of the posted ad times, converted to a normalized GMT, and then let Excel make a graph. I have no reason to think this will help anybody, I just like to visualize data. People in chat on friday knew i was working on it, and i figured I might as well share it, and save anyone else the trouble of doing it too.

This is GREAT stuff!!

So has any of this information been posted in the SO forum so the characters can also take a look at it? I started a thread over there and pushed to get them to open up their wiki for this information.

Nudge?

I think we're going to have to figure out when to post to SO vs. here. I know that for myself, I don't want to have to post stuff twice, just for the sake of keeping the Sentries in the loop. It's not yet clear which discussions are more appropriate for in-game purposes to occur within SO.

I think we're being pushed to do all of our in-context spec'ing and puzzle work on their forums, where the entire community can play along. That would leave the unforums merely for meta and out-of-game discussion. I'm not sure if our wiki has any OoG bits to it, but there must be a reason for the in-game site to have provided us all with access to post to their wiki. It was discussed in chat that perhaps we could create SO-wiki pages to summarize what we have so far, without duplicating everything in detail. Going forward, we would stop using our original wiki entirely, except as an external reference resource. It may seem strange at first, but once we start getting more of an influx of new players from outside the walls of Unfiction, you'll see how it becomes much easier to collaborate in the central location. Plus, it makes sense in an "alternate reality" sense to stay immersed in the fiction and work with the characters.

When we're piecing together the story delivered via craigslist ads, that is entirely ingame. When we start pondering the sleep schedule of the PMs based on the timestamps of their posts, we've wandered outside the story anyway and should probably keep our focus.

Catherwood's post is right on the money I think. In the last GMD game, WiBS, we very rarely used unFiction at all. All new clues were posted to the IG boards and all the solves happened there as well.

In every GMD game there's been an in-game discussion forum that we've used. I see a couple of problems with posting in-game stuff on the in-game forum exclusively. For one, once the game is complete, the in-game boards disappear eventually and we lose an archive of the game. The second, and for me this is a big one; I have a very hard time reading stuff on that board. The color schemes are not very eye friendly. I actually avoid reading posts there.

I hate the idea of having to double post too, so if it comes down to it , I hope the game is played here and not on SO.

I'm really glad you said that, because I was thinking the same thing.

I would prefer playing the game here too for the same reasons Enaxor mentioned. Its really hard for me to read the SO board.

There's a "subSilver" theme that you can choose in your profile on the sentryoutpost board, and I think it's supposed to look like this: http://www.forumimages.com/fi_themes-FI_subSilver-44.html

However, it doesn't seem to work, at least for me. When I switch it stays the same black. Which I can read okay, but it may depend on monitor, etc.

Yeah I agree that board is hard to read. You can highlight it and make it reverse text - but maybe that is too much trouble. I haven't put anything on the wiki for the same reason. I really hate that black background. I was at a fundraiser for the Lighthouse for the Blind and they had a display of standards for graphic design. They said that white text on a black background is one of the most difficult to read and they recommend against it. Maybe I will post a request asking them to change the background?

I'm planning to continue doing double posts with anything I come up with. I don't know how else the characters-and players not from unfiction- are going to know what is going on. It isn't that much trouble to double post stuff, although I guess you have to copy and paste or upload attachments to that forum if you don't want to link to the OOG wikis or this forum.

I don't have a problem with uf being only for meta discussions, but I think the points about archiving the information and keeping it accessible to people who don't check the other forum are good ones.

Should we treat the in-game forum as any other in-game site and post any updates from characters only here as well? If we are concerned about archiving the in-game data we may have to do that.

Y2K appears to be pointing us in certain (mis)directions - so assuming he's helping rather than hindering I went with what he'd brought up.

Copied here from the SO board:

For example, do we know anything about this "city"? What about this "woman going through the trash"? If there are different "yous" what makes her divide up those messages? Hmm . . . so many question still, not many answers.

I had a thought about this.

The woman going through the trash - she is probably the same person as in this Craigslist post:

Quote:
Night after night, I find myself here in this city of madness. The faces are familiar to me now - the man standing on the corner, the dog growling behind the fence, the old woman sorting through her belongings.

I wander over to the bench where she's sitting. She smiles and invites me to sit. I watch as she carefully picks up her precious heirlooms - an old note, a well-worn book, a faded photograph.

A photograph of me.

So what if the packages are the contents of the old woman's trash/belongings?

That would mean there is a photo of 'me' in there somewhere.

.. but 'me' and 'you' seem to vary in the different Craigslist items (especially as some of them are wfw and some are wfm).

So ... how about one of the photos in each package corresponds directly to either the 'me' or 'you' in the associated Craigslist item (i.e. the one sent to the same city as the person who received the package)?

Maybe it's just the Orlando package (where that Craigslist entry is from)? ... but that old woman also appears in an Indianapolis item too, which is why I think it might be a more generic link between the packages and the Craigslist posts.

I'll take a look later and see if I can spot anything that might tie the photos to the people in the associated Craigslist entry. It's worth a shot.

That woman appears to play an important role in many of the dreams. If we assume "me" is BA (and that's a good assumption), then is the woman her mother?

I love your spec, Occultus.
