Sheesh guys..It is only a game..

And as the great Wongmo may have said (if they kept him on a little longer):

It is not the destination that is the important.. it is the journey! Very Happy

I enjoyed it and I am sad it is over...nothing more and nothing less.

I thought this is a discussion thread about Project MU??

As far as I'm concerned, MU is the topic, so yeah it is fair. Rolling Eyes Or is this thread only for people who loved MU? Or is this the ARG & Zimbu discussion thread?

I hate to break it to you, but the PMs of course didn't use many "new" cryptographic techniques. If they had, we would have been screwed beyond belief.

I don't think we would be screwed, just in need of a better clue structure... instead of puzzle -> reward -> puzzle -> reward linear approach... to give hints as to how the cryptography was done. You could have some massive original puzzles if you just sit and think about it.

For example, one story arc gets you a map image, in another theres a string of numbers which can't be solved... until you use the numbers as co-ords and take the first letters of each labled city.

The closest the MU game came was the music clues... but then again; instead of several music puzzles... couldn't there have been more variety?

AnthraX101 wrote:

They had a few new methods, IE: the cipher in the october 1st picture still has not been located, the hacker communications are new.

I don't think it's not impressive to come up with 26 new symbols. Quite a few roleplaying sites have nonsense fonts.

AnthraX101 wrote:

Now if the PMs really did create a new cryptographic method, say a blowfish variant, who would have been able to solve it? Not you or I, I am sure.

Why does new = more difficult? I don't want super locked up messages, just something out of the ordinary.

I'm just not happy with the level of work put in after the first week. They started big, and started something they couldn't deliver, IMO.

Well, actually, this is the October 1st puzzle thread, but I don't mind... I do not really get why you react this way though...

You first call some people you don't know idiots, for NOT doing something that would have made them look a lot more idiotic imho, THEN you get mad at someone calling you bitter without knowing you... how very appropriate.

The PM's explained, yesterday in the PM chat, exactly what Catherwood told you too... hinting at October 1 (or worse, making it into a puzzle after the fact) would just be out of character, and that's what ARG's are all about: creating a consistent "reality" in which every character (re)acts correspondingly.

Besides, there were a lot more (and bigger) communities working on the game besides uF, and they were not being so hyper about october 1st at all, so it would have just been for a part of the players, which is silly imho.

And no, these forums are not only for people who loved MU, but if you criticise so heavily, I do really wonder why you stayed along... most people stick around because they were intrigued by the game and grasped by the puzzles, wether or not they were based on new or old methods. If you were not, I can see that, but then clearly this type of game isn't really for you...

The girl in the pic is not me, that's one of my favorite people in the world - Gwen. We were at an art gallery opening that her dad was doing music for, and she was playing peekaboo with another musician nearby, when I snapped that photo.

Bang on! Peekaboo it was. Very Happy

Very cool, but I don't take credit for thinking of that. Someone else posted about peekaboo earlier, and I just used the idea. Mr. Green

It is ashame that this was not a puzzle. It was a really great picture. It did distract me from the storyline a bit.

You'll just get people coming up to you and saying "What does it mean?"

Though I suppose then you can laugh. And never explain the joke..........

Dude. That's so "our last game."

In fact, this snip is from the LockJaw Guide (LockJaw being our last game):

Quote:
These are pretty obviously coordinates, pointing us to 12 capital cities around the world: Toronto, Helsinki, Edmonton, Panama City, Yellowknife, Tallahassee, Havana, Indianapolis, Ad Dawhah, Napoli, El Paso, and Taipei. Looking at the first letters of each word, we get thepythianet, which leads us to our first new site, thepythia.net.

Here's the full deal, it's quite long:

Two weeks without the Internet, and look what happens :(

In an attempt to Drag this thread kicking and screaming back onto topic...

Puzzle or not, I'd still like to know what the stupid skeleton / robot / corpse / thingy in the background was.

They've 'fessed up on everything else, even the red "light".

Can we have the last few bits so this can finally be put to rest.

During the chat last night, Krystyn told us that it indeed is a skeleton Exclamation

Thanks for that, one less thing to worry about.

Krystyn here again. I know it frustrated many players, but the Oct. 1st paintover image was not complex, nor was it meant as anything more than what we've already said - it was a way for Caesar to alert the other hackers that on the surface, Paintover looked to be some sort of photoshop contest site, but on a second look the images all had a puzzle to them. In the case of most of the later Paintover images, the puzzle answer clearly indicated that the hackers needed to look somewhere specific. After our security had been patched and we re-grouped, Caesar posted the stegged image to view the files from the web-side, and then congratulated them soon after when they had all checked in.

More than 20 pages, more than 300 posts, and more than 2600 views.. and even a poll to determine whether to go on or not..

Time to get some closure..

Goodbye little girl..

Go away evil skeleton..

Thank you all for STOL-ing by..

I C this topic being locked..
