Gracesmom chat

Hadn't seen the Denver folks on AIM for a bit. Had a nice chat with Sharon this morning. I mentioned the bunch of individuals vs. team approach to this. She also seems to want to push non-US involvement - both good things.

lirath (8:53:38 AM): good morning! How are you getting along?
gracesmominnh (8:55:39 AM): Hi! sorry I was on the phone
lirath (8:56:04 AM): It's a pretty day here but I'm home with the flu - which keeps me from driving 2 hours each way to a meeting
lirath (8:56:14 AM): so maybe it's a good thing
gracesmominnh (8:56:32 AM): we are holding out here at Camp Hampster, as Uncle Frank is calling it now, lol
lirath (8:56:35 AM): heh
gracesmominnh (8:56:45 AM): sorry to hear you are sick!
gracesmominnh (8:56:52 AM): drink lots of liquids
gracesmominnh (8:57:03 AM): and yay for saving gas
lirath (8:57:01 AM): no big deal and yep - already doing that
gracesmominnh (8:57:19 AM): what else is going on in your area?
lirath (8:57:23 AM): believe me - I may have to take out a 2nd mortgage to pay for gas!
gracesmominnh (8:57:30 AM): are people getting concerned?
lirath (8:57:35 AM): Most definitely
lirath (8:57:51 AM): Traffic at the Ambassador Bridge is getting nasty
lirath (8:57:59 AM): (US/CAN)
gracesmominnh (8:58:22 AM): you are near the border?
lirath (8:58:32 AM): Also, I hear whispers that there's a management/labor showdown afoot with the auto mfrs
lirath (8:58:49 AM): yeah - Detroit - right across from Windsor
gracesmominnh (8:59:05 AM): oh man that could be a real firestorm
lirath (8:59:13 AM): well, since we're all about cars...
gracesmominnh (8:59:17 AM): yeah
lirath (8:59:21 AM): it could get really ugly
gracesmominnh (8:59:29 AM): I hope you can report on that for us
lirath (8:59:32 AM): absolutely
gracesmominnh (8:59:37 AM): keep everyone in the know
lirath (9:00:03 AM): I thnk Copystar is looking to do something about the bridge traffic.
gracesmominnh (9:00:11 AM): as things get worse, we're gonna need to hear from people about their areas because I doubt the news will cover it
lirath (9:00:13 AM): We've been working this together
gracesmominnh (9:00:21 AM): awesome
gracesmominnh (9:00:29 AM): I hope more people work together
lirath (9:00:37 AM): well, it's going to be necessary
gracesmominnh (9:00:56 AM): absolutely
lirath (9:01:01 AM): I see the reports from a bunch of individuals but I'm not getting a sense of a team approach
gracesmominnh (9:01:12 AM): its still early
lirath (9:01:10 AM): we need to push that
gracesmominnh (9:01:29 AM): people aren't sure what to do yet, but hopefully they will figure it out
gracesmominnh (9:02:00 AM): and we will help whenever possible
lirath (9:02:03 AM): I think Rumpletoe's map of people's locations would be a good thing to really advertise since it lets us know who's in our area
gracesmominnh (9:02:25 AM): where is that map? has he submitted it to the website?
lirath (9:02:39 AM): just a sec and I'll tell you..lemme look...
lirath (9:03:00 AM): http://www.wayfaring.com/maps/show/36169
lirath (9:03:19 AM): He's mentioned it in his blog earlier, but not sure it's been submitted
lirath (9:03:52 AM): We've added you folks as waypoints - and the Denver Airport
gracesmominnh (9:03:57 AM): thats awesome
gracesmominnh (9:04:13 AM): please, if you talk to him before I do, ask him to submit that post
gracesmominnh (9:04:20 AM): or maybe do a new post with it
gracesmominnh (9:04:27 AM): whatever he thinks is best, heh
lirath (9:04:38 AM): will do
gracesmominnh (9:05:05 AM): thats cool that there are international peeps on it
lirath (9:05:33 AM): yeah - even in W Australia!
gracesmominnh (9:05:48 AM): we set it up for the US because thats where we are all based, but we need to think globally and we want everyone to participate
lirath (9:05:52 AM): anyway, a much fuller map would be good
lirath (9:06:19 AM): absolutely! There seems to be significant interest in the UK too
gracesmominnh (9:07:15 AM): I hope it grows
lirath (9:07:34 AM): I certainly think it will - as things get more challenging
lirath (9:08:06 AM): Michigan's economy has struggled really badly lately - this is sure not going to help
gracesmominnh (9:08:36 AM): the car companies need to change the way they work
gracesmominnh (9:08:48 AM): peeps have been saying that for years and they are slow to respond
lirath (9:08:59 AM): when you're a 100 year-old business, change comes with difficulty
gracesmominnh (9:09:05 AM): if this crisis doesnt make them do it I think they are doomed
gracesmominnh (9:09:14 AM): did you see that post about the air car?
lirath (9:09:18 AM): yeah - that was cool!
gracesmominnh (9:09:29 AM): I want one!
lirath (9:09:27 AM): I'd never heard of that before
lirath (9:09:32 AM): me too!
gracesmominnh (9:09:44 AM): that would be so cool to putter around it
gracesmominnh (9:09:46 AM): in
lirath (9:09:52 AM): heh, they looked cool
lirath (9:10:21 AM): 'please put some air in my tires - and engine'
gracesmominnh (9:10:28 AM): heh
lirath (9:10:36 AM): yeah - I want one
gracesmominnh (9:10:58 AM): I thought the frenchfry cars were cool, but air is even better
lirath (9:11:03 AM): no doubt
lirath (9:11:15 AM): and it doesn't give you the munchies...
gracesmominnh (9:11:23 AM): hehe
gracesmominnh (9:12:05 AM): ok I gotta go, got some stuff to do before I head to work and I have to leave earlier because biking takes longer
lirath (9:12:08 AM): Well, I think things here are going to get worse before they get better, but there are some bright folks hereabouts, an in the end, I have hope
lirath (9:12:18 AM): k. nice chatting!
gracesmominnh (9:12:24 AM): keep the faith! we will get thru this
gracesmominnh (9:12:26 AM): bye
lirath (9:12:27 AM): seeya!
gracesmominnh went away at 9:12:39 AM.

I'm thinking either the website has gone down twice recently due to bad scripting, or that the site is getting hacked IG.

I'm doubting the bad scripting as it's all sponsored and stuff.

So maybe this is the first puzzle...

Smile I can guarantee you it's the application scripting, I know that error page all too well while coding ASP applications. Lots of PM head scratching is being done right now, can you hear it? Utterances of "Why the HELL is it doing THAT?!"

GO YUCKY GO YUCKY!! YOU CAN DO EET!

ROFL Laughing I was wondering if the whole hacker story, was just a nice cover for 'oh crap website teething problems'

I can assure you Nitefoll that you care the king of hilarity.

But yeah... if this WAS a puzzle it would be nearly impossible to start "Here's an error code, figure it out" unless the error code had some sort of distingushable difference other then 404, we'd be a bit lost now wouldn't we?

must be a piss off for the creators though. Pour all this man power into a project just to have it malf on you.

The website is back, partly. The blogs have vanished from the left side. But at least its back!

YMuck working on it. Thanks for your pings. We will see if more fingerprints are left at the crime scene. Evidence growing that 'this was no boating accident' - D.

How are gallons measured in England? In Canada, the "gallon" of gas used to be roughly equivalent to 5 quarts in the US while a "gallon" of gas for us is 4 quarts.

A gallon of petrol in the UK is 4 quarts/8 pints. Though they sell it priced per litre (and you have to work out the maths yourself) because we're in the EU and Brussels say we have to be metric. (Tsk).

I'd ride my motorbike over to the US to buy your cheap gas if I could, but my bike doesn't float and I'm no James Bond. Speaking of which, the whole WWO crisis could be a case for 007 - it'd be a snip for him to solve it, surely?

web design

I'm no expert at web design. In fact I pretty much have no skills in that activity at all. Is there someone on board who has excellent design skills and can create a site which is difficult to trace?

I'm sensing a little fun to be had, but it's gotta be 'secret'

Respond here and we'll talk...
