I'm totally lost with the Yog stuff. I think I will wait until later this week to do anything more with this game. And, yeah, I think snappish is an understatement of their attitude. Is one character supposed to be difficult but some of the others are supposed to be more helpful? It would be fun if we could match their characters up with the messages sent to them by BA.

It's also a full moon today.

It'd be a good idea to light a bonfire tonight Wink

... and does "Beltane ifs" mean questions about Beltane? or have I been staring at that name for too long? Laughing

I've been building profiles of them in my head as I go. Some of them are definitely more helpful than others (Mkaos, for example). GetMEout is definitely the tempermental sort. HPhack kinda reminds me of the sort of character that typically gets eaten first in all those zombie movies. ^.^ It's been a interesting forum to poke around in.

? My calendar shows the full moon on the second - so I checked, and yep, it's on the second at 10:09 UT (same as GMT).

I was going by the 'how big the moon looked the night before' method Smile

Ok - a [META] question.

The sentries are *seriously* slagging off their ISP.

So I thought that we might be meant to investigate the cause of the outages - and was expecting to find that their ISP was an in-game company ... but it's not, it's a real ISP, Dreamhost.

So if they are complaining about ISP outages in-game, that didn't happen OOG - and complaining heavily about the incompetence of the ISP and their staff, which presumably didn't happen OOG too ... isn't that a bit dodgy from a legal perspective?

Unless Dreamhost are aware of and ok with all the anti-advertising they are doing? Which would imply that they are in-game?

This is my first ARG, so I'm not clear on how IG events affecting OOG companies gets handled.

The best thing is to keep it simple whenever possible. I don't think that there is any dodgy legal question of the in-game characters complaining about the ISP. First, if what they are saying is true, and I think it is, then there is no problem. Second, people complain about their ISPs all the time- I expect Dreamhost is as used to that as anyone. There is no problem with them complaining about the ISP.

I think that in-game the PMs are trying to explain why the site is down so much, although I've never had a problem accessing it. I think it is reasonable that tech people would complain about the ISP- if that was the cause of the problem.

I'm wondering how BASF found Sentry Outpost. I know at least one of the sentries themselves asked that question

One of the sentries appears to be missing (i.e. not posting) - Makim - and BA said she was taking a break to concentrate on a new project ...

I've asked the sentries if they remember anything about Makim.

And finally his latest take on the 3rd one I sent him:

Original: ennahom yadunana abra Azif wa nahknu nastajeeb

I'm beginning to think these may all be quotations from the Quran, or at least something very classical. "Innahum", in the latest example, is a very formal, classical way of starting a sentence.

I think the Necronomicon, albeit fictional, would be considered a classical, learned tome would it not?

Caterpillar, can you ask your friend to try again with the third phrase?
One of the craigslists from May 1st had "ennahom yadunana" as the title.
And I believe Azif is the "arabic" word for necronomicon.
So he doesn't have to translate "azif."

I think these quotes are phoenetic arabic as given to us by Lovecraft.

here are some quotes from Lovecraft using the word necronomicon:
Quote:
kept under lock and key at the college library-the hideous Necronomicon of the mad Arab Abdul Alhazred
He locked away the Necronomicon with a shudder of disgust
efforts to borrow or copy from the Necronomicon at the Widener Library
fragments evidently taken from the Necronomicon, that monstrous blasphemy in quest
At other times he would call for the dreaded Necronomicon and the Daemonolatreia
dreaded Necronomicon of the mad Arab Abdul Alhazred
especially fabled Elder Things in Necronomicon. These wings seem
I felt sorry that I had ever read the abhorred Necronomicon, or talked so much with
Cthulhu cult, of the Necronomicon, and of the Hy- perborean legends
which things like the Pnakotic Manuscripts and the Necronomicon affrightedly hint about.
The mad author of the Necronomicon had nervously tried to swear
that worm-riddled copy of the Necronomicon kept under lock and key
Junzt, and the forbidden Necronomicon of the mad Arab Adbul Al- hazred,
He found it in the Necronomicon-the formula.
I'd burn that damned Necronomicon and all the rest if I were librarian

Personally, I have my money on "He locked away the necronomicon with a shudder of disgust." or "He found it in the Necronomicon - the formula", since they are short sentances, and don't have any proper names, which should be easy to see in the phonetic translation.

I'm pretty sure it was the notice from ARGN which had the picture of the BA site's cat eye and was an "article" by Michelle ("Varin"). Madmad just mistakenly attributed this email as coming from BA St Feline herself. It is not uncommon for that assumption.

If you are on the ARGN mailing list, you got this same email.

Ahh that makes perfect sense, I was just very confused by the whole 'cloak and dagger' thing I was picking up from their posts over there.

I only recently subscribed to the mailing list, so I didnt get anything for this Arg.

Anyone Googled "sentry outpost" (with or without the quotes)?

The first item you get is this:

A page with the title "bad judgement or ignorance or inattention"

Looking at the cache you see this:

Which is basically nothing.... but I thought the title was interesting.

Any thoughts?

Google that and you find it's the exact definition of 'mistake'.

Have we made a boo boo?

Also the exact definition of "errors" according to this OOG blog post on GMDs site about this little game we're playing: http://www.gmdstudios.com/blog/cat_revolution.html

They also link those exact words back to the SO site. So.... I don't know

EDIT: The phrase also comes up on this psychic-type message board mostly from a person named lem .... I'm signing up, because why not: http://www.mysticboard.com/

In 2 of her 5 posts lem discusses both the meaning of dreams and First Wave Indigos, which seem kinda Cthulhu related (although she dismisses them) .

Just coincidence?

First Wave Indigos usually refers to the so-called "Indigo Children." These are real children that are supposed to lead humanity into the next evolution. They supposedly have very highly developed skills, are very psychic, very intuitive, very empathetic and very intelligent, etc. They are not a fictional reference. They are real and there are people who believe in their abilities and encourage them. Mostly fringe/new age types.

From http://skepdic.com/indigo.html
Quote:
Indigo child

The term "Indigo Child" comes from psychic and synesthete Nancy Ann Tappe, who classified people's personalities according to the hue of their auras.*

Usually each universal age is accompanied by a preponderance of people with that life color. For instance now most adults are either Blue or Violet, the two colors with the attributes most needed in this the Violet Age of transition. During the next age, the Indigo Age, Indigo colors will be the norm (Understanding Your Life Through Color 1982).

According to Tappe,

The Indigo phenomenon has been recognized as one of the most exciting changes in human nature ever documented in society. The Indigo label describes the energy pattern of human behavior which exists in over 95% of the children born in the last 10 years … This phenomena is happening globally and eventually the Indigos will replace all other colors. As small children, Indigo's are easy to recognize by their unusually large, clear eyes. Extremely bright, precocious children with an amazing memory and a strong desire to live instinctively, these children of the next millennium are sensitive, gifted souls with an evolved consciousness who have come here to help change the vibrations of our lives and create one land, one globe and one species. They are our bridge to the future.*
