Disheartened About Season 2

I'm feeling a bit dodgy about Season 2 now. Not having played Season 1, the main things that drew me to it where the TINAG style, the clues being in the cards and the big "treasure hunt".

Now I'm reading and hearing the most of these things will not present.

The video on perplexcitystories.com immediately crys "This is a game!" for one. Maybe it's just a placeholder. I'm not very up on these things.

I also watched a video about Season 2 on Google Video (maybe this was my biggest mistake), and there was mention that there will be little link between Perplex City Stories and the Puzzle Cards. I think the quote is "they will be two seperate entities" or something along those lines.

As for the lack of the big treasure hunt, I can live with that. I understand no-one wants just a repeat of Season 1.

I understand also that people will inevitably want a new approach for Season 2 and that it's a buisness that needs to maximise it's profit, but for me it's kind of taking away from the magic.

Please, someone who is a veteran of these things, reassure me! Crying or Very sad

I would love to reassure you, but i don't think I can!
Perplex City Season 1 was all about a massive treasure hunt where the cards had a hidden message about the cube with an ultimate goal, whereas nowadays the cards have little relevance to the game itself.
I am definatley agreeing with you about season 2! Sorry!

It's seems to me that the Puzzle Cards have become just a distraction, not something critical to the story. Which sorted off make's them a bit superfluous unless that's all you play the game for.

What attracted me however was that it was all seemed to have a greater meaning and led towards an overall target. Maybe I'm wrong, but I got the impression that what brought the community together to solve the most difficult cards was not the challenge alone, but also the idea that you were working toward discovering a great mysterious.

I think it's safe to say that most people knew they stood very little chance of being the person who actually found the Cube, but it seems everyone still pitched in because they felt like they were contributing to the greater good in a way.

Maybe I'm wrong, I'm very new to this. It's only my opinion which to be honest, has been formed very recently.

I wouldn't say the puzzle cards were especially integral to season 1, either. There were some clues which were absolutely vital, and a couple clues which were rather nice, but I wouldn't say the cards themselves were absolutely integrally tied to playing the treasure hunt, or the ARG. As was stated prior to season 1, the cards were not essential. You could play with ARG and the cards and the treasure hunt, or play with the cards and the treasure hunt, or play the ARG and the treasure hunt, or play with the cards and the ARG, or any subtle variant on any of these. I obviously don't know how season 2 will shape up, but looking at the BACKS of the cards, there is certainly plenty of story I think we'll be seeing evolve.

I will say, it is unlikely all three (ARG, cards, and treasure hunt) will run simultaneously. Mind Candy expressed endless grief about how to pull together Three entirely different games under the same dates and schedules. Their worst fFears were things like someone stumbling on the cube rand0mly at a time when the ARG would have been crippled, or before all 4 waves of puzzle cards were released, or looooong after any reasonably sane person would like it to be fFound. It's a logistical nightmare (literally!), and they probably won't do it again in quite the same way.

That said, the ARG needs more than simulacrum of adventure; There needs to be actual real world crisis. lost objects, murders, deranged artificial intelligences. Depend on it.

And just who are these fFinch and Cassia people, anyway?

TINAG wasn't a big part of Season 1, which MC like to remind us of occasionally, as a sacred cow that they've, if not exactly slaughtered, maybe maimed slightly. If TINAG was firmly in place you wouldn't really need a big customer services operation for players (I know that's for the cards, but you get what I mean).

I think maybe what you need to ask yourself to make yourself feel better is "what was it I actually enjoyed about season 1". Clues in the cards, meaning you liked physically having a clue that was beyond the t'internet? Or that you like hidden clues per se? Both things I'm sure are going to exist in Season 2 - MC aren't going to give up on live events after they had such resounding successes in multiple countries in season 1. Also they happen to have a sister company that sends out goodies for a living (Firebox) so I'm sure they'll make use of them, even if they can't send out leitmarks.

As Scott points out, there is pertinent information on the cards - there's definitely stuff that doesn't need to be there for the purpose of puzzle cards. Plus it's not unknown for PMs to lie to the players (it's all one big lie after all - sorry), though I don't think they are in this case.

The treasure hunt aspect is a funny one really. It was a source of criticism for Season 1, in that it was a little un-ARG like and there was worry that there'd be no teamwork left in the player community. It didn't really happpen (though things went a little quiet in the last week Wink ), mainly because we're all lovely (well, mostly...OK...I reserve judgement) and because they had things like Receda's revenge, where cooperation (or at least shouting) was required.

Season 2 is going to be different. But we don't know that it's going to be bad. I have my fingers crossed and I'm interpreting the feeling in my stomach as anticipation...rather than dread. But I know what you mean Wink

I've been thinking. The only conclusion I've really come to is that the best thing to do is to have faith and wait and see.

Looking at Season 1, MC did a really good job, so they definitely have the ability to make it great and I'm just gonna have faith in them.

Given that we (Vax and I) somehow just found PXC, and are starting with Season 2, I'm pretty pleased with what I'm experiencing. It may be very different from what people who went through Season 1 had to work with then, but I'm not dissapointed.

Dunno if that helps any.

alittle excited

after going to the site and watching the video I am a little excited about the story.. I am glad they are having a sequel,

as I missed part 1 for the most part due to the fact that I thought you wouldn't be able to play with out the cards... le sigh....

Season two

I think the delays to the start of Season Two are justifiably making people a little concerned, but I have no doubt that Mindcandy can pull it off.

Admittedly I came in halfway through season one, but it was great fun throughout and as long as they haven't changed the online/interactive format TOO much it should be worth the wait.

I could of course be completely wrong, but im keeping the faith!

I'm happy with it at the moment. Sure, there's less mystery now, but I do believe that MC'll pull through. We just need to wait for the ARG

I mean, remember when the Season 2 site went live? Everyone complained about the bugs. And then when the Season 2 Puzzle Cards went live? Everyone complained about bugs, website slowness, and the fact that MC wasn't prepared.

They're preparing this time, and they're going to make the ARG aspect work as well as possible before we can come in (and find even new glitches to complain about Cool .) I think it'll all work out.
