Has anyone actually mentioned what words are circled on the backs of their pages? You know, If they held them up to the light and the circles shone through?
Sorry I'm having trouble making sense today.

I think someone tried that and they didn't line up well with any words - I could be mis-remembering though, I can't find the post.

Looks like rowan tried it on page one of this thread :

Could those of you that received packages, hold your page up to the light and see what word would fall in that circle? Thanks.

None of my red circles line up with words on the opposite side of the page.

ok I've tried 3 packages - lining up the circled words with the non-circled pages, and seeing if any words stand out... apologies for the lengthy attachment.

resizing of the pages could go two ways - either by matching the extent of both pages (both books I would guess are different sizes, or have a different number of lines on each page), or by aligning the pages by line from the first and down (not including the header/p#)

based on the ones below, I'd say if it is the right path, my best guesses would be..
one of:
* p5+p175 = "the roof"
* p5+p176 = "scattered" (by line), "of injury" (by height)

one of:
* p15+p19 = [blank] (by line), "about" (by height)
* p15+p20 = "and looking" (by line)

one of:
* p65+p53 (by height) = "wind", "changed", "upon us"
* p65+p53 (by line) = "hope to" or "wind", "stage of" or "abrupt", "began" or "about the"
* p65+p54 (by height) = "maze of stone", "led", "showed" or "hinges"
* p65+p54 (by line) = "of stone", "entrance", "could be discovered"

it's too difficult to tell for sure digitally... I'm going to check my pages when I get home, and compare them to each other under the light. The sizing digitally might not be accurate to their actual sizes. But I personally think "stone entrance could be discovered" shows promise Smile, along with "scattered", and "and looking"...

And those also follow the pattern of using the back of the non-circled atmom page from the same package, and matching by line to find the circled word... and of course this could be another theory that's totally off the ball Confused

I posted this in another thread, but this is really the right place for it. Whatever happened to that "first letter of the first word, second letter of the second word" thing? If I recall correctly that was showing promise.

it's still there, on the wiki, but we can't do much else until we get more pages...

Now I thought that with all the references to running in circles that they were telling us that we were off track with that approach. I could be wrong. Smile

I think we got up to "was no note overlooked" as a possible guess.

The problems I have with that approach are that several pages have more than one word circled , we have all these unmarked pages, we didn't include all of the texts, and we created the construct of first letter of first word, etc based solely on the arrangement of the pages.

It might yet be right. I can't figure out why she choose the contents of the packages; I don't have much of a handle on this puzzle.

Anyway, I thought we hit a dead-end with that approach. Maybe we need a modified version?

Another tack we once talked about in IRC was to use the circles as a reference to all the stuff in a package. The CL printout/pictures/etc.
But I don't remember it coming up in the fora.

j5 pointed out this post to me - emphasis added

From Mkaos:

Quote:
I'm not entirely comfortable with the fact that I broke down and called some "psychic", left a message, and then saw it on the internet the very next day. I realize it was my own doing and, honestly, when I called, this is exactly what I hoped would happen. Now that it has, I'm a bit upset. I told her something personal and she posted it to one of the most visited sites on the internet.

So, you'll have to forgive me for not caring about some torn pages from a book sent out in a package that I did not receive. I just don't see what we're going to get out of that. Instead, we should be figuring out what she is posting to craigslist and why.

I know that there is already a thread devoted to that very thing, but it seems to be digging into the posts themselves. I don't want to distract from that, but I think there are other questions worth exploring.

She's obviously using stuff that we tell her. She's used stuff from both HPhack and me. Has anyone else noticed their dreams in her posts? Are any of her posts original or are they all just a collection of our own dreams? If we figure that out, will we be any closer to understanding just what is going on?

So was this a waste of time?

My take on this was that it seems that different Sentries are going to start obsessing about different parts of this. So, HPHack was wondering about the meaning of the circled words, while Mkaos is going on about the dreams.

The circled words should definitely lead to something, so I don't see how exploring what they mean would be a waste..

And I would be sooo disappointed if the PMs sent us pages with circled words and they meant nothing more than to emphasize what the story is about. That's a pretty reckless approach for this bunch. I mean if you send pages with red circles around words there is no way its not going to be percieved as a puzzle and we will gnaw on it till the last day of the game and maybe beyond.

Seriously, this better be a puzzle.

So we are certainly "lost between pages" on this puzzle.

Could the original clue had been to 'turn the page' somehow? Does that mean to use the backside of the red-circled pages? But we've tried that, right? What else could we do to 'turn the page'?

I've been trying to find solace for the red-circled words from the CL posts too. However, I was using the following CL post:

...Ripples spread and merge. Circles upon circles. Temporary sculptures on the still surface...

We do have one page that has "circles upon circles" -> from addlepated's package

But what would the significance of this page be over the others?

Then I thought maybe it had something to do with the letter "o" in each of the circled areas (circles upon circles). At first, it looked promising, but then there are some areas that don't have the letter "o" circled (or near the circle). So, I'm not thinking that is it either.

Anyone else have some ideas?

anyway this could have been solved to lead us to http://www.ronomi.com/ ?

I noticed in the post about the dog BA said it was chasing a squirrel that was no longer there. Maybe the solve to the red circles was something that had a time limit? There have been a fewl events we may have missed at the Marble Cemetery and at the Green-wood Cemetery. Also there is a community garden in that area that is only open to the public on weekends from 12:00-2:00.

I'm not convinced this wasn't meant to be a puzzle, but it could be that we just didn't solve it in time?
