 [PUZZLE] #7 Socotra

OK, Socotra will be open in a few hours and we have started scheming a solve.

I started this topic, in suit with last year since, the original thread was already at 12'ish pages. It might help one topic per puzzle, as we did last year. This should keep each thread a little more pointed...

Sassy thinks this hold screen looks intriguingly similar to last years Mayan wall puzzle. I have to agree. I also don't think this is just a hold screen but, is the start of the puzzle, paused.

No worries. I created a new forum for PotC/Volvo so new threads (like this one) can be started. It'll make the discussion clearer I hope, having seperate threads for seperate puzzles is a good idea.

If posting new threads in the future, remember to tag them for clarity, and Search before posting, to see if what you want to post is already being discussed in the forum. (See the forum guidelines for more information.)

Enjoy!

So! It's past 17:00 in Socotra and the puzzle isn't open -.- Can anyone forge a japanese IP and test the JP version? Or is there anyone in that part of the world for who the puzzle is open already?

I'm in Denmark, and the puzzle opens just fine (both the Swedish, UK and Japanese version - I haven't tried any of the others). I really doubt that your IP is the problem; but you might want to try to clear your cache.

Simple maze this one, just a small word of advice:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Try filling the next 'go to location' with dummy numbers. It'll save you checking and rechecking your path trying to work out what you missed.

Looks like it'll be a puzzle a day from now on, should be fun Smile

Hints for those who have found the path, but are still stumped. Don't look at more than you need.

Hint #1:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Try entering an answer, any answer. How many numbers do you need?

Hint #2:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Do some of those symbols look familiar?

Hint #3:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Perhaps from some previous puzzle?

Hint #4:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It was an unused part of that previous puzzle

Hint #5:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Look at the symbols on the right leg!

You just want the answer, eh? Answer:

Variable Maze

Very interesting,

Did anyone notice that the tiles in the maze are variable? The change with each load. I was going to work with screen shots and approach this puzzle like Cozumel, when I noticed the tiles changing... Nice!

I did notice that, and you can use it as an indication of facts you probably do not need to consider. However, the aspects of the puzzle you actually have to solve do not change with reloads.

For some visuals:
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w174/degravedi/socotramap.jpg One map version
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w174/degravedi/socotramapsimple.jpg Simplified version of above
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w174/degravedi/socotramapsolve.jpg Solution

As has been said, the extraneous tiles change in the map, so this may not be exactly what you see on your screen, but the accurate points remain the same. IE: this is only one version of the map but the puzzle can be solved from it if you'd rather use a stationary one that trying to scroll around all over the place.

Oh, and degravity, thanks for the lovely screenshots...they saved me alot of time...I only looked at the first one (I PROMISE) But they allowed me to solve the puzzle over Pizza.
I laugh because I googled "Socotra Screenshots" and your picture came up first... Google is a nice thing!
