[PUZZLE] #8 Ceylon Weighing spices Puzzle opens May 7 at 2000 local time.
Ceylon, now known as Sri Lanka, follows Indian Standard Time, which is UTC+5:30. Yes, five and a half hours offset! Doing the math for the USA, that's 7:30 AM PDT or 10:30 AM EDT on May 7. (edit, corrected my math)

Note: This puzzle actually opened 30 minutes sooner than expected.

BTW, just a note, if you look at the swf files for the puzzles, their numbers are one behind. IE. this is location 07 by their standards. The opening puzzle (the compass) isn't considered a location. Just saying because further locations have already been listed as:

Puzzle 9 (opens May 9) - Bay of Bengal:
Puzzle 13 (opens May 16) - South of Java
Puzzle 17 (opens May 23) - Indian Ocean
So Bay of Bengal isn't going to be the next puzzle after this, but rather 2 from now.
EDIT: I'm a moron, I was reading the SWF files wrong.

that would make sense, as we have had one today, and we have one tomorrow, why miss a day out?.
Would you mind telling me where you found out the numbering though?

All that means is some references are inconsistent. The text in the game clearly identifies the puzzle requiring the Pirate map as the fifth puzzle, and you have to count the compass thing as #1 to have four puzzles prior. That's the numbering almost everyone is using in practice, so I think continuing to call this puzzle 8 makes the most sense.
Of course, it's possible Bay of Bengal IS next, considering when this one opens. May 9th starts only 28 hours after the opening of this puzzle (or 27 or 27.5 hours, depending on which time zone applies to Bay of Bengal).

Hmmmm... Didn't this happen in the last game? For some reason I remember a stop in the middle of the Atlantic that didn't really have a puzzle per se, but they counted it as one.
Or am I nuts already?

Lol, no not nuts. I remember that too. Possibly, they're counting the downstairs hallway of the Port Royal puzzle as one stop?
EDIT! DOH! I am a moron, I just read through the swf files wrong. This is the eigth stop.

As the quote says, the user Lila, found it. I believe she said it was noted somewhere when she picked up her map from the dealer.

If you go down to the VOLVO logo on any screen, click EARN VOLVO POINTS, and sign up, you get that info.
Degravity, where are you reading the .swf files? Are we in the same directory?

SPECULATION Wonder what this puzzle is gonna be? While we wait, does anyone want to guess what the Ceylon puzzle will be?
My guess: You will have to use the scale there to weigh little bags of spices, balancing both sides with prolly four different bags with different numbers to a side. Or maybe its gonna be another jar turner?
What do you think?

Speculation I think its a weight thing where you have to select the correct amount of eight objects to get the coordinates.
Kind of looks that way there are a lot of items on the table and there is a scale.
You were correct on the last puzzle being the same as the Mayan one from last year except this years was not as hard to figure out.

i agree. i think your going to have to weigh diff amounts of each spice/and the amounts used of each will signify the numbers?
also just speculating

Just done a wiki on ceylon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Lanka to see if I could see anything of any importance. Nothing really jumps out, but look at the native writings.

Ceylon in Wiki Notes... A quick look at the map shows that the Bay of Bengal washes onto the north eastern shores of Ceylon. That outght to give us a rough idea of kind of numbers we are looking for longitude/latitude.
It is known for it's export of spices, especially cinnamon. Heh.
