[META]Time Zones Postings
How do they know which time zone we are from?

does anyone know how they determine which time zone you are in? I will be solving the 1st half of this contest of EST and the 2nd half on PST. I wanted to know if they can take that into account sometime and will post the next puzzles starting times accordingly. Or should I just assume that they will continue to post my puzzle start times according to EST and just subtract 3 hours? If anyone could shed some light on this issue it would be greatly appreciated!

also, does anyone know if they are posting each puzzle at the same time around the world (i.e. its posted at 8pm EST and 5pm PST?), I know there has been some speculation to this, but I wondered if anyone had tested it out.

thanks

Currently they aren't using YOUR time zone. They're using the timezone of the puzzle LOCATION. So it really is the same time world-wide. For some people it's in the middle of the night...too bad. Nor does it really matter winning-wise, until we get to the last couple puzzles.

Actualy, 10:30 am edt, 7:30 am pdt. Not only is the offset for IST unusual, that area doesn't observe daylight time while we do so time of year matters as well. I like http://www.worldtimezone.com/ because of its maps, but there are many sites that do the same job.

Do you have a source for that? Bay of Bengal is large, including coastlines in three different time zones. When we learn the exact coordinates we can make a better guess which time zone applies.
