[INTERACTION]Agent Lex
One of our own went over the curtain....? cool beans

OK, so I'm posting this here because I'm 90% certain that Agent Lex is now an in-game character--and not in the VN, Agent Hands kinda way--I mean the crossed the curtain kind of way. I'm not going to explain my logic here in full, but sufficed to say I think the PMs handled the situation very nicely if this is, in fact, the case.

Having said that, I and selected others got a message from Agent Lex telling about how he was instructed by Theo to intercept BrumGuy's package. He then strongly implied he sent the package/information to Foo.

Here's a little history of Agent Lex the player since he's been out of the picture for a while. He started out with Red Karma as one of the first registered users. Solved/helped solve a decent number of puzzles, then got switched over to Green karma after he got caught snooping around the directories looking at the new District locations in Red and Blue Districts (they locked out access after that, but there was nothing really to see anyway). Karma got turned to Yellow after he sent Foo the evidence that Father Beck was the same account as farquar (leading to Beck's "accident") and helped out with the Brotherhood. Dropped out of sight for a while.

If I'm wrong, OOPS. Won't be the first time, and won't be the last. If you want to hear my full logic, let me know and I'll post it.

This is very interesting. Perhaps our complaints about how slow things were running, due to the PMs school schedules we specced, caused them to expand their resources.

Confirmation??

Hi All,

Guess we now have confirmation of notgordian's suspicion - Take a peep at the Top Agents Listing, or have a peep here:
http://www.deuscity.com/profile.php?user_id=712

New Agent with Yellow Karma named Lex - Quick check of the profile reveals it is Agent Lex 30 years on.

Brum

[Edited to add] - If someone wanted to let me know in an IG sense that Agent Lex has stolen my mail, I could get him arrested and we could get rid of two Yellow Perils at the same time!!! Used to be a capital crime a few years back, punishable by death, but alas no longer.

Man, and it got confusing enough with Chris/Cfreak and Adam/Theo, now we have AgentLex/Lex. Added complication? Agent Lex had the <sniffer> install protocol, so unless he's double agenting not only does Foo know what's been sniffer-ed now, he's ALWAYS known. Food for thought.

I shot future Lex a message asking about myself, and got the following response.

future Lex
Quote:
Gordian,
It has been a while. I'm afraid I haven't seen you at all since the war started in 2012. We went our separate ways, so I cannot tell you if you've survived this long or not. For all I know, you could be skiving about somewhere out there. I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm glad to hear that you give my past self respect. To listen to my words would be wise. You shall see.

- Lex

Then, I got an unsolicited but welcome message from present-day AgentLex.

from present AgentLex
Quote:
Gordian,

Have you seen that new guy trusting me? I don't believe it! I was told I'd be getting the yellow handler job, but not in this way!

I'm not sure whether to contact him. Don't want to risk a "rift" as Hiro would put it! I wouldn't even be sure to trust him, if it weren't for the yellow handler thing. What do you think?

- Lex

to which I replied with the following--I'll update this post if/when I get a response (and sorry for the rampant nerdiness...I got into this game because I love time travel stories). EDIT: I got a reply while posting that???

from me to present AgentLex
Quote:
Lex,

Yeah, I saw the new guy. And funny you brought up Hiro--I got a message back from the future you, and you seem a little different. Since I'm not sure how far you've caught up with the series, I'll leave it at that (As an aside? Can't WAIT for the season finale). Sufficed to say, though, the analogy might continue.

My advice? Absolutely try getting in touch with yourself, but treat your interactions the same as you'd treat those with anybody else from the future. It can't be a rift if you've already done it. But be wary if you (er, future you) tries to get you to change the past. If popular culture is any indication, we are the worst judges of what's good for our past selves.

Think Star Trek "Tapestries", think "The Butterfly Effect", heck--think future Theo trying to stop Adam from trusting BrumGuy. Information should be useful...but actions? I don't know.

I think, after 30 years, I would be different. Especially if I'm still in DCorp... I wonder if my future self- wait, never mind.

Thanks for the advice, I'm gonna contact him... err, me... and see if he/I respond.

- Lex

and then by email from present AgentLex

from present AgentLex
Quote:
Gordian,

I tried to talk with my future self. He responded, but it seems he
doesn't want to say much to me, he has the same time change concerns
that you do. He did say something which had a kind of resonance, though...

"The future can be changed. I'm living proof. You know what I mean."

I have to admit, it's given me doubts about my own views on destiny,
time communication, and so on. Food for thought.

In case you're wondering what the proof is, in an old Deus City News article Cheevy Prince said Agent Lex would die in a nuclear attack on the West Coast in 2013. So, the fact that there's a future Lex floating out there means either time can be changed, or somebody's pretending to be Lex.

My own interaction with the new, improved AgentLex:
Quote:
To AgentLex: <sniffme>Greetings, Lex. In idle investigation of the interface, I notice you dis-trust your own future self. Any particular reason for this? Beginning to regret your affiliations? Or just general paranoia?

Quote:
AgentLex says: <sniffme>

I don't regret my current affiliations, but I fear that in the future they may not be as strong. The actions my future self has taken show that he is much more loyal to DefenseCorp, at least on the outside. This, coupled with his refusal to speak to me, makes me suspicious.

Of course, all of this is based on speculation at my end. I can't tell you where his true allegiances lie, only where they appear to.
