[SOLVED] Postal Delays Puzzle

Since we should be talking about this in the puzzle section:

Violet posts that there is a way to test what sort of parcels are being delayed by the Post Office.

What combinations of parcel variables (destination, weight, size, speed, additions) lead to delays? I know a few of us have already sent packages out, but we should post our results here instead of in the general section.

MOD EDIT: Actual testing system here - Poozle

OK, moving to this thread, the status of my parcels 2h and 15 mins after dispatch are as follows:

1 & 5 Pending
3,4,7 & 8 Delivered
2 & 6 delayed

For easy reference, from the other thread
Quote:
Parcels sent:
1 Standard/Normal/Insurance
2 Priority/Large Box/Signature Required
3 Priority Express/Tube/Delivery Confirmation
4 Priority Express/Irregular/Fragile Handling
5 Standard/Tube/Fragile Handling
6 Priority/Irregular/Delivery Confirmation
7 Priority Express/Normal/Signature Required
8 Priority Express/Large Box/Insurance

i.e., my priority express parcels were delivered, but my priority parcels were both delayed, regardless of configuration.
Anyone else with results to share?

HELP!

All I see is a generic page! Can someone tell me how to send my own packages?

Generic page? I saw some people had problems using it in firefox but I don't actually know.

Yeah, using a shifted reload works.

THanks.

Albedo, what location did you send your parcels to? The first package I sent, Priority/Normal/1000g to the Academy, is now marked as 'delivered' (but 90 minutes after being sent still read 'pending'. I'm not sure when it changed over.)

And I wonder--does 'delayed' ever change to 'delivered'?

Are we going to have to watch the status of each every few minutes to see how long it takes for each to be delivered because it doesn't tell you the time of delivery??? This is going to be a long job...

Looks like people at Perplexorum and welovepuzzles have been sending many packages and getting some delayed responses. Someone set up a Google spreadsheet to record all of the different packages sent. Posting to the spreadsheet requires a GoogleID, though.

Apparently if a delayed package is delivered the status will read "Delivered (delayed)".

Edit:
All of the packages I sent - to each destination with Standard/Normal/1000g and no additions - now have status of "Pending (delayed)." Oh, dear. Is it possible that we overloaded the system?

Agilon AI, all parcels were 1g.

My standard parcels are now both officially delayed, and my eyes have gone all blurry from too much scrren time, so I'll leave this puzzle to the bright young things to solve. Razz

Has anyone considered that the answer might be in the tracking code?
My data in full :

I think we can safely assume that Pending(delayed) results are not the same as Delayed. Violet was concerned about parcels delayed by "up to a day," and the Priority parcels that I sent just before noon (PDT) have had their status changed from Pending(delayed) to Delivered. I'm not sure that a delay of only an hour over stated delivery times is a useful result for our experiment.

woojitsu, you're probably right. About half of my parcels have now changed to Delivered, but I have yet to see a package that actually says "Delivered (delayed)" so I'm now wondering if they actually exist.

Albedo, do your delay packages say Pending (delayed) or Delivered (delayed)?

What if this is like mastermind, where we get a partial delay if we have 1 or more fields correct? I'm going to go take a look at that spreadsheet and see if there's anything obvious.

From Perplex City Post:

Quote:
Fragile Handling

Fragile Handling is the option for you when you are sending delicate, electromagnetically sensitive, or poorly-packed items. This premium option allows your fragile package to circumvent our processing equipment. Fragile handling items are hand-processed from pickup to delivery.

That part about circumventing the processing equipment and being hand-processed sounds like it's just ripe for delay.

Anyone tried emailing Vi, to see if she can intercept one of her mates parcels, or just ask him what kind of weight his parcels are (or at least a "between Xkg and Xkg) and where they are coming from?
Long shot but im gonna ask anyway

Morning!

All my parcels now say "Delivered". Those that were delayed did say "Pending (Delayed)". It's possible that my Priority Express parcels were delayed and I missed it. They were "pending" up to 90 minutes after dispatch, and the next time I checked, about an hour after that, they were delivered.
