Halo 3 beta = awesome.

Thorough testing has confirmed that I still suck at Halo but dang it all it's fun to do so.

Haha, at the end of lunch today I noticed they had that beta login on the 2nd floor. I had a few extra minutes - I shoulda logged in.

Well, if you do get on I will train you in the art of the Spartan Laser. Basically, look at them for 3 seconds and then watch them go to the respawn screen. If you could hit someone with a body shot with the sniper in Halo 2 you can kill a good amount of people in Halo 3 once you get a wee bit of time under your belt with the Laser. Also, if you liked dual wields in Halo 2 you'll LOVE them in Halo 3. At their range they can kill someone as fast as or faster than a Carbine or Battle Rifle. You don't even need to find differing weapons like the Plasma Rifle and SMG, you can just go with duel SMGs and they'll kick some major Spartan ass. Not to mention they sound brutal!

If anyone wants a write up as to my opinions and/or techniques for the weapons in Halo 3 let me know!

My view on weaponry in Halo 3:

SMG: My god, this thing is a BEAST. I've found myself very hard to kill while dual wielding this, mostly at close range. Pulse firing still makes it better, but man. They must have upped the damage. Also sounds cooler.

Spiker: Covenant SMG but with reflecting, less accurate, more powerful ammo. Didn't like it at first, but it's starting to grow on me. It's particularly brutal paired with a plasma pistol!

Plasma Pistol: Not so good for the noob combo anymore. Not too shabby on vehicles and in dual wield combos, however.

Assault Rifle: THIS is a starting weapon. Good enough that you can defend yourself at a respawn, but still outclassed by a lot of different guns.

Needler: My vote for new favorite weapon. It's finally good! REALLY good! I've been getting kills left and right with this damn thing now!

Plasma Rifle: Haven't had much time to use this, but it seems like the halo 2 one. I heard somewhere that it slows people down, but I've never had it used ON me, so I have no idea.

Carbine: Also fantastic now. They fixed the one weakness of the carbine from halo 2-the pitiful ammo you get on pickup- and now it's as rightfully good as it should be.

Battle Rifle: Still getting the hang of this. Sucks ass at close range now. Not so accurate at midrange or long range, but passable.

Shotgun: KICKS ASS AGAIN YAY

Rocket Launcher: Kind of sucks since the rockets now move the speed of snail.

Missile Pod: Alright I suppose, I've barely had the chance to use it on vehicles but it kind of sucks on infantry.

Gatling Gun: Close to mid range kill time. Be sure to declare "I ain't got time to bleed" while using it.

Laser: Also alright. Not that it's hard to hit with, it's just hard to get into a position where you can use it before they kill you.

Sniper Rifle: Totally weird now. I'm getting the hang of it again, but the kickback and slower firing rate take some serious getting used to.

Beam Rifle: Same as halo 2, so, better than the sniper.

Spike grenades take some more getting used to, I'm used to using grenades for the splash damage, which you can't do with the spike so much. No good in open ground, but pretty dangerous in closed spaces. Also seems easier to stick than the plasmas.

Warthog and ghost seem to be the same. Banshee I'm not sure i'm a big fan of now. The addition of the fuel rod cannon is welcome, as is the faster plasma speed, but since you can barely dive anymore, it's practically required that you fuel rod to get any kills-or at least line up for a splatter attempt some ways away. I do like how easily shot down it is now. Mongoose is just plain fun, even if it has no armor whatsoever.
