[PERPLEX CITY STORIES] Announcement Dalayed.... I have some bad news for everyone, just checked the stories website....
Quote:
We know that we promised you that we'd be launching Season Two this Summer; we thought we would be too. Unfortunately, this is no longer going to be possible.
Perplex City is, as you all know, an immense project. The work that goes in to creating the immersive environment, compelling stories and believable characters that we've created for you over the past two and a half years is huge. Equally huge is the amount of time, effort, and brainpower that you all put in to create the amazing community surrounding Perplex City.
Because of this, what we've always tried to do is ensure that we never deliver projects to you before they're ready and before we're entirely happy with them. We'd feel we were short-changing you, and, to be honest, compromising ourselves. At Mind Candy we've always believed that a less than perfect game is worse than no game at all. For this reason, we're holding off from launching Season Two for now.
We want to reassure you that this is not the end for Perplex City; we've invested far too much love, time, and energy in this to stop now. What we have to ensure, though, is that we are creating something that is both fun and sustainable. Right now, we need to continue thinking about and then developing before we relaunch. If you'd like to know as soon as we break ground on the next season, please enter your email below.
Thank you so much for your patience in letting us get things just right.
Yes, thats right, the wait continues.....

Oh dear, oh dear. I think that's going to lose them players. Being put off for a couple of months is one thing, but now there's no mention of when they hope to get things under way, except that it's not going to be this summer. It sounds like it's going to be a long wait.
For the optimists amongst you - if they are still having to create and develop stuff for it, it's looking to be massively impressive when it does get going.

But they're not still having to create and develop stuff for it.
The entire PXC team has been released from Mind Candy, going to work on new projects and stuff.
It looks like it is over, people. And the things I've read on the dev blogs, it sounds more like "years" than "months", if ever.

Ah. Yes. Having read various things in the time since I posted that, you are indeed correct.

Wow. What happened?
Oh, I guess Mind Candy hasn't released the reason behind the decision.
Here is a link to Adrian Hon's blog post
In a comment he says:

I can't really answer the question 'Why?'. Not because I don't want to, but because I'm not at liberty to. You should ask someone at Mind Candy.
It is Mind Candy's hope that they will bring back the ARG in the future. However, the facts for now are that all of the story team has left Mind Candy, and Perplex City Season 2 is not coming out any time soon. The cards are going to continue being sold and supported; they're all designed and we already have some copies of wave 2 in the office.

It's all a bit........ overwhelming at the moment. There's bits of info trickling in all over the place, and I think it'll take some time for all of the inevitable questions to be answered. But basically, the phrase "indefinitely postponed" has been cropping up repeatedly. I'm sure the whys and wherefores will be dealt with eventually.

Or is the curtain just being drawn even tighter?
All of a sudden... Kurt says "You can't close down the connection ... we need them because.....{fill in the blanks}"
Suddenly we are back in the game and the MC folks are secure behind their curtain.
I keep thinking back to Majestic. Majestic was set to launch and then someone set fire to the building of the developing company. Game was delayed forever. But then.... wait... look... messages are coming out. Are the developers doing it? No, they don't know what we are talking about. GAME ON.
I pray that this is all it is ... just a tightening of the curtain. If not... we always have cards and puzzles, right?
Do characters (when their actors are leaving) suddenly all post long drawn out blogs? Isn't this all word of mouth and blogs at this time? Does the mindcandy site say anything about shutting the project down?
I demand to see pink slips and unemployement compensation for those leaving before I will believe it. Trout and flame away.. but that is how I feel.

You're not alone in feeling like that. I know I'm kinda hoping that it's not true, but I really think that it is.

Check out the Recruitment page on the Mind Candy website.

Mind Candy is an exciting start up developing a new kids' brand online, with an assortment of licensed products to launch alongside.
Quote:
# Mind Candy is preparing to launch a highly innovative new online virtual world aimed at Children (7-11 years).
# A range of physical toys, games and puzzles will be produced for the brand that will each contain a unique code. When these unique codes are entered at the website they will unlock a wide range of enhanced features for players within the virtual world.
Looks like they're going into the kids market
*sigh*

I still remember that night. The sense of confusion, and everyone in the AIM chat room when the news started rolling in about the fire... I think I was the one in our group that stumbled across the blog of... cripes, what was her name again? I forget, but things started to roll again, as we started to prod the websites. Easily one of my favorite ARG moments.
And I was always surprised that one of the people that was in that chat was actually a NPC. Didn't realize it until afterwards.

Just to quote guy from an MSN chat:
Quote:
17:36:51 Jeb says: i have to say, picking June 1st was just mean given that we'd been told the ARG was starting in June
17:37:03 guy says: Yeah, in no sense did we do this on purpose
17:37:11 Jeb says: half of the people are in denial and just saying that this must be the start of the ARG
17:37:14 guy says: And you can quote me on that
17:37:19 Jeb says: i will do
17:37:48 guy says: This = definitely not the start of the ARG
17:38:04 guy says: that's quotable too
The ride is over.

it's been fun, but truthfully, I don't expect to hear from our friends in perplex city again.
I'd like to propose a toast.
to the people of mind candy, who were honest enough to tell us the truth even when we didn't want to hear it and for such a great ARG.
to the people in the pxc community, who made this such an enjoyable game.
to the people in perplex city, for allowing us into their culture and their friendship.
I'll be watching for news and I hope to be proven wrong.

Do we have an email address for this guy?
