In fact, from STATUS LOG page, you can type differents codes :

leonardo => page 6
buildings

Daniel McGinnis => page 7
Rotor

Wilmslow => page 8
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The two previous locations give you
the birth place of my father
111 . 15 . 98 . 72 . 46 . 112 . 21 . 33 . 59 . 83 . 67
34 . 60 . 8 . 100 . 24 . 55 . 91 . 41 . 107 . 20

Just plain stuck.

I just know this is going to be like all the Captain Kidd, Edward Teach, Blackbeard stuff I entered for the Oak Island site only to give in just as the next entry would have been the correct one.

Getting nowhere on fathers/birth locations of Turing, Enigma, crypto, etc.

It's obviously not simple substitution, Mod(26), Dec-ASCII or any Octal conversion variants.
Also, basic math functions aren't panning out. Can't seem to turn the numbers into any kind of coordinate information, either.

The only thing that looks like it might be, that I can find would be a homophonic substitution cipher. But for that we need a key table for the substitutions. The example ones I've found/tried produce gibberish, so far.

Whoa. great work guys.

So to confirm the two previous locations were Oak Island & Wilmslow? So the birthplace is some sort of combination of those two?

I don't get anywhere with the code either.

I was thinking Oak Island and Bletchley Park - coming up with Oak Park - but it didn't work.

"Oak Park" seems promising to me. It's a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. It's the birthplace of Ernest Hemmingway, which seems like a good solution to that part. He wrote "The Old Man and the Sea", which could correspond to "I'm too old to help you". I've tried "Santiago", the name of the main character, didn't work.

SPEC: The number sequence could be character offsets into the text of "Old Man and the Sea", disguised to look like ASCII. Trying to find a full text online...

Hemingway's nickname was Papa.

Another change to the status login page, clicking "ENIGMA 9" now gives:

477330-033688

I don't think that was there before. I don't imagine it has anything to do with the "previous locations" puzzle, it's probably only relevant to the next step.

I don't think the intermediate solutions need to be crypto related, certainly the world's tallest buildings isn't crypto. Besides Hemingway, another famous writer, Edgar Rice Burroughs is the "father" of Tarzan, although he merely grew up in Oak Park, wasn't born there.

Yeah "crypto" was a bad choice of terms.
I guess enigma (puzzle/mystery) is the better term.

Don't forget Frank Lloyd Wright. Some of his buildings were quite avant garde for their day.

Wright wasn't born there, according to Wikipedia he was born in Wisconsin. I was very interested in him because his son was actually semi-famous also.

I've looked into a few of the better known folks on that list, can't find anybody with significant offspring. Therefore I'm leaning towards the famous writers, whose literary characters could consider him their "father". "Too Old" still throws me at Hemingway's "Old Man", unfortunately I haven't been able to get the text, just some Coles Notes on it.

For Enigma9... Those could be coordinates for Lorient, France.

Or, an area just east of Toucy, France, if the minus sign isn't intentional.

Not of major importance, but the Lorient wikipedia lists an interesting claim to fame for the town:
Quote:
In the 2006 Tour de France, Lorient hosted the end of Stage 8.

Thanks, just after I wrote that I was able to get a torrent of the PDF to come in. I've checked my earlier spec about indexing that many characters into the text. It doesn't seem to lead anywhere. The first sentence is "He was an old man who fished alone in a skiff in the Gulf Stream and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish. In the first forty days a boy had been with him."

The 21 characters I get out of it are:

111 t
15 m
98
72
46
112 a
21 o
33 n
59 S
83 i
67 n
34 e
60 t
8 a
100 o
24 i
55 u
91 u
41 s
107 o
20 h

which is garbage as far as I can see. I also tried it with an offset of -1 (if the indexes were 0-based), that's not any better:

111
15
98 s
72 e
46 f
112 t
21 h
33 o
59
83 e
67 a
34 n
60 S
8
100 n
24 f
55 G
91 o
41
107 h
20 w

I could be really close, or this could be a total wild goose chase... Very Happy I've attached the Excel file I set up to automate the character index lookup, in case anybody wants to fool around with that.

Indexing into whole words might also be practical, but seems like too much work to check.
