Perplex City -- thanks, everybody, and good-bye.

We'll always have Shuffled.

All I know is that if there was NO chance of PXC coming back, they wouldn't have brought Nicholas Hawksmoor into the story at the very end. Kurt, Vi and Scarlett's open-ended goodbyes might still have been written even if they had no chance of coming back, but I just don't see them suddenly making Nicholas Hawksmoor (a real historical figure from Earth) a part of the story suddenly with no plans to follow up on it, it's just too much.

This doesn't mean it WILL come back, but it does mean that the writing team hasn't abandoned hope.

The timing just seems so... strange.

Less than two weeks ago, there was the audacious Radio 1 event, promoting the Perplex City ARG to a whole new audience. Up until yesterday's announcements, there was absolutely no sign there was anything amiss.

Abandoning the ARG now, when seemingly the vast majority of work has been done, and after such a high-profile tie-in, just doesn't make any kind of sense to me. I'm sure I'm not the only player who'd appreciate an explanation.

I really hope that somehow, some way, Perplex City will continue. The whole concept seems too good just to drop like this.

Thanks to everyone from the story team for making this such a wonderful, memorable experience and good luck in your future projects.

The thing that gets me is the (apparent) waste of forethought and planning that will be lost. If (and it is an if) MC really intended this character to be Nicholas Hawksmoor and they planned this all along (which does seem plausible given the PXC Year 0 connection) then I can only imagine what else MC had in store for us. That planning and careful thought was what makes (made) Perplex City so wonderful. (Boy, I need to go to bed before I use another set of parenthesis (brackets)).

We can always hope that we get to find out what they planned for us, but if not, then at least we got as much as we did. Thank you for that, MC.

Exactly. But if they knew for sure that they weren't going to be continuing the ARG, wouldn't they just have dropped the Nicholas Hawksmoor angle and not made any mention of him at all? I mean, even if they did plan it at the beginning, it makes no sense to suddenly bring it up right at the premature end, especially since it sounds like this wasn't a very sudden decision.

Maybe, thought I doubt it, the old MC team will reform into a new start-up company, and instead of sitting on or ruining what is basically his brainchild with the rest of the 'gang', Michael will pass the rights on while he sets off into his own bright sunrise. If he's going to pursue his own plans with a totally new intellectual property, why just stow Perplex City in a vault to rot when he could at delegate some or all of the work to the old crew, considering how much potential for continued action it has. Especially after the big BBC Radio blitz and the numerous new players he'd sure to get, it's a confusing move to make to just lock it all up; we've pretty much all said this. He could even just keep it all and charge them royalties if money's the name of the game. My only hope is that this doesn't end up being strictly business and never see the light of day.

Just some lovely dreaming, is all.

It's a shame, too, how many people really kind of fell off the face of the Earth along the way. Ollie, Mokey, Tanner, Duckie, Evil and Jo all come to mind, amongst many others; I'm sure they'll show up and pay respects, but it's shame how many comrades kind of faded away over the last few months. Ah well, since the other topic's doing toasts:

To the family! *clink*

(EDIT: Ah, I see. Still, cheers to the family.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, a bit of a confession. The only cards I want from Season 2 are the ones I penned myself. Some flags should have gone up once The Good Doctor, Paul (McCormick [MOLEY MOLEY]) was replaced as my contact by Ms. Hannah Boraster around March, but I wasn't exactly thinking along those lines. (Although, technically, the giant rush might have been a red light if we hadn't though they were only just going up.)

Since I never actually bought any cards even in Season 1 (Colin, g'bless your generous soul and your copious doubles), I only hope I can snag some copies for the memories. That's really why it's more bittersweet for me than I let on; my own work is coming out, but only as part of the final nail in the coffin. But again, blessings to the new guard, as well as the old. Can't wait to see what they did with all my crude excuses for deign ideas. Very Happy

Actually, I think most of them headed over to Perplexorum where goodbyes are also being said.

Likewise Crying or Very sad , however, I also had a couple in Wave 1 and Mind Candy sent me 5 complementary copies of each just before the Wave was launched. Hopefully they'll carry on this tradition so you'll still be able to get copies of your own work.

Good luck for the future David and thanks for the great work that you and the team have done over the last three years and the fun you've brought into all our lives.

Cheers,
Angus
