Hi! I don't like .doc formats (because it might contain virus and it's not readable on some computers (linux)), so i took Muffin's text and converted it into html. I'll attach it here.

You should post in rtf, it's almost the same as doc, but still better because it doesn't contain macro viruses, and I've heard it's more readable on linux as well.

Personally I like html or text formats, since they are browser-readable and you don't have to open any additional programs to read them.

I've tried abejarano's login (project: 041) but most probably he've changed password since then.

That is one thought we were kicking around a bit last night, but I was too tired to ad it to the list.
Hey BrianEnigma, don't forget to add a link between Katrina (the niece) and Craig Becker. She could be seriously interested in him, or she could be working with Caretaker to get us the badges.

couple things... we now have a new group in the game... the HCRD, which seems to be part of the Department of Homeland Security. Are they part of the white, black or red team? Right now, I would guess possibly either Red or Black. They seem to be the ones sponsoring/paying for the research that Zeladnzy and Starkey are doing.
Also, for the rest of the user/password combos (20 of them), it may not be possible for John The Ripper to crack them. If they are "strong" enough passwords (enough non alpha numerical characters), it may not be possible to crack them (without possibly using other tools I'm not aware of). John the Ripper is designed to crack "weak" passwords from what I see.

Just to prevent misunderstanding: JTR is designed to crack "every" (MD5) password.
Maybe thatīs what this puzzle is about!
To combine our "cracking efforts" to get the logins for all "in game"-characters?
Anyway, just my 2c

yes... TECHNICALLY, it could crack every single one, given enough time.
However, it is designed to crack "weak" passwords.
I've kept mine running and so far nothing... I'll definitely let everyone know if there's any additional ones showing up.

The HCRD was mentioned in an Echelon Memo we came across early in the game from September 12th E-mail
Quote:
TO: SW Regional Operatives
RE: Threat Level Escalation
VIA: DARPA SuperNet HCRD/Broadcast
ECHELON has flagged a statistically significant increase in
activity in the Southwest Operational Region. Until further
notice, field agent communication of both routine and classified
information within this region must be conducted using only
secured channels. Refer to SCP for Threat Level Tertius in the
HCRD Field Manual.
