[June 4] Econojen's most recent post on Sentry Outpost

Quote:
I know I'm neither Exu nor Icculus (and not nearly as entertaining), but I am around. I had a bunch of reports due before the holiday weekend, and with everything going on, I guess I cut a few too many corners. This past week has been a re-evaluation of everything I'd written, repackaging, and in some cases, just entirely rewriting.

I've been tired.
I've been confused.
I've been feeling sad about being here and unsure if I belong anymore.
I've been uncomfortable with the idea of starting new conversations and talking about simple things like news with servers exploding out Arabic and Bryce's head deciding it was time for a vacation (even though GAH the news has been crazy interesting lately)
I just feel weak and unable to cope.
I feel useless.

I still do, kinda. So I did what I've always done when my head starts spinning evil thoughts about myself being useless, and retreated into work, burying myself under papers, and hoping that the fort I create with all the reams will somehow save me from the shit falling from the sky.

It's still always waiting for you though, isn't it? Ready to hit the target stuck to the top of your head like a beanie. Plop! Right out of the sky all over you.

So, basically, my point is that I'm sorry that I've been AWOL. I know that I can't be, and perhaps shouldn't be, because I don't want anyone to worry about me or wonder where I've gone. Plus, I kinda like this place and, uhm, I kinda like you all, too Embarassed It was really hard not checking in everyday. I didn't know what to do at lunch. But a girl just needs a break sometimes. A little pause from the game to catch her breath before heading into the Boss Level (Bet you didn't think I was a big video game freak, did ya? I still have my old skool Nintendo with the 2D Mario Bros. I love that game. Sometimes I wish life were linear like a level - just keep jumping over the koopas and firesticks and you'll make it to the castle. But alas Razz)

And now that I've finished the third, yes third, batch of cookies I've been baking (oof so fat), I'm going to do a quick jog around the apartment, up and down the stairs a couple of times, and then sit back down to do more rewrites. And probably bake more cookies (still have chocolate chips left!)

Dante pointed this out to me. The parts about rewriting sound like meta conversation about the state of the story. But the part that caught my attention was the mention of news (twice) in the same sentence as the reference to the servers spitting out Arabic. I'm wondering if they decided to change direction after the news of the foiling of the terrorist plan at JFK.

Just a thought. Brian Clark did mention on the netcast, and I don't think this is a spoiler at all, that they had been contacted by Homeland Security because of using Arabic in the Craigslist posts (although I think the story with the destroyed city in it may have been part of that as well). Maybe the most recent news compelled them to change what they were doing?

Or maybe we're just so lost that they decided to make some changes?

I guess we will see soon enough.

(moderator was trying to make the tag be [UPDATE] per our convention, but adding the date made the topic line too long; changed the date to be less ambiguous to people using day/month format, and dropped 2007 as being obvious -- catherwood)
