Cyan gets it (maybe)

For those of you playing Uru (the latest in the Myst series), there's a little ARG-ish egg that's just been discovered. I know it's been done before in 'regular' games, but I wouldn't be surprised if more comes of this. Seems there's a packing crate in one of the worlds that has an URL on it. Leads to a real site with email addresses and a registration form, which asks for a specific reg. number.

Let's see what they do with this, if anything.

Oh, did my duty and checked the whois registration. The site is indeed registered to one of the Cyan developers. Wink

Best I can see, that registration form doesn't actualy do anything. I can find no mechanism to submit it to the server. The submit button is just a flash script that looks to send you to that thank you page.

FWIW, You can traverse the directories here:

Isn't *.biz for commercial use?

Technically, but just about anyone can register a top level domain of their choice. The only ones that seem to be restricted are .gov and .edu (and the ones reserved for other countries). I've registered .nets (originally intended for companies that had something to do with network infrastructure), .orgs (originally for non-profit organizations), and .coms (intended for commercial ventures).

the parent directory, the preafter, has that hand symbol, which is interesting. Looks like a few of the pics are from Portland, Oregon. Another page has a bunch of those spiral hands in different public places.

Not sure what this is, but I'm not convinced it's arg yet. It's unusual though.

I've seen this preafter site before. If I remember right, it was all part of the Uru/Myst online promotion.

And no, I didn't think there's an ARG here. At most, I think it'd be a cool way to offer up some hints or backstory to the URU game.
