And with that, we're way off topic. Wink

I'm sorry, WHAT were they good at? Shocked They DID NOT know how to do web pages and the content? What was "good content?" They WERE NOT good at sending out emails and most people didn't get them and had to keep going back to the SMH page to get their txt messages and emails. Lastly, they WERE NOT even good at the videos! The videos were viewed before the " contest " SCAM even began! They had lousy acting, a lousy, unrealistic and severely flawed "storyline," they tried to change one video by dubbing the audio and no one could agree on what was said which was the only way we could determine the location (like a kidnapper would tell Grant), and the videos were shot right outside the Deep Focus offices as we could tell from the street signs. Lastly, you are wrong that we only found "stuff online that should not have been placed online until appropriate." I thought you were following what happened but you obviously didn't. We found all of the videos before the game even started, followed by ALL of the messages (both email and txt), the answers (both right and wrong), and even the PERSONAL INFO of the employees at Deep Focus who were involved in this " project " SCAM. We knew the answers before it even started and I honestly can't say one thing positive about DF. I only wish that this blundered scam got more publicity so DF would either stick to something they know how to do or go out of business.

Gee grinder, it was a game - not life - get a grip on reality....they are a marketing firm and probably do very well at that....SCAM!!! How do you figure...Did this cost you or anyone else money to play. As I said in a previous post, this was simple and we all put too much into it but I am not going to go around ranting and raving about how good or bad Deep Focus was.

For those who are curious, for an ARG or something ARG-like, this seems to have been an awfully "hard sell." Many ARGs are promotions for different companies or products, but usually, the company or product they're marketing is barely mentioned, if at all.

E.g. a very famous ARG called ILoveBees (which is the one that was my introduction to the ARG world) was a promotion for the video game Halo 2. Part of the story took place within the universe of the games, but it was a stand-alone experience -- you didn't have to be a Halo player to enjoy it. It also never mentioned Halo or Halo 2, and there was barely any overlap with their stories (in fact, the game designers avoided an overt connection to the Halo storyline so strenuously, that when they did mention a ship from the Halo games, instead of feeling like they'd been marketed to, most people were really excited that they'd finally gotten a solid connection.

How ARGs work as marketing is a very complicated discussion (one that, if you're interested, we've had in detail here, but in short, the basic concept is usually that of "pull" rather than "push" marketing. Rather than shouting a product or brand or company name at you, like traditional marketing, ARGs whisper that in exchange for your attention, they're going to tell you a good story or provide a fun game, and then run away as fast as they can and hope that you'll chase them.

I want to stress that most ARG designers try very hard to provide a satisfying experience to players and to make them feel respected. If you feel like you've been "used" by an ARG, something's gone very wrong on the design end.

Long story short, if you're feeling disappointed or used, please don't let this turn you off of ARGs generally.

MY 2 Cents
Well...........

This was my second ARG, my first was the Vanishing Point, and I have to say I did think it was easy. With the Vanishing Point I was on a team of five people and even then I found alot of those puzzles hard. I have a friend trying to win a car in the Lands End game and those puzzles are rough! You get bumped out there like servivor what fun is that? With SMH I didn't find many puzzles hard, I was stuck on a few, but I did think over who could be behind the deed Twisted Evil . Ok some of you found it too easy but as I understand it was the first for this company and all in all it wasn't bad. Protuction value was bad but lets think about it you have to pay the actors, which are in the SAG union, then get a film crew, yet another union, and make-up. On the computer side you have all those man hours and then going back to try to plug up holes. Lastly if you look today you see this:

Due to a technical error, the fingerprint application was temporarily associating Robert Johnson with Grant Tenbrook's prints incorrectly. For this reason, Robert Johnson will also be considered an acceptable answer.

Now in the rules it says that technical error are a too bad so sad issue but they are going to accept it. Give them a hand folks all of us played and admit it, had fun. If anything else you found this place Rock On .
