I got email!

Quote:
Dear flipthefrog,

A week ago, I wrote a manifesto in which I asked you to join a
revolution that would begin today, June 13th. The manifesto included
clues about what this revolution might entail... but when you chose to
be a part of it, you did so on faith that it was real.

It is real. Thank you for having that faith. And special thanks to
those of you who thought hard and came very close to figuring it out
on your own. I may have honored you at:

http://www.avanoo.com/d/revolution/aries.zoo

Like you, I had no idea what would come of this endeavor. Would
millions of people find the manifesto, somehow, and ask to join in?
Or would it languish, alone, in web obscurity?

A few public relations firms guaranteed me access to real, life-like
revolutionaries. "We have an unparalleled web presence," they all
said. But Wilford and I didn't want it to happen that way.

"Revolutionaries are like husbands or wives," I said to Wilford.
"They aren't nearly as special if you buy them!"

He agreed. "Either this revolution begins organically, with people
who want to make their lives and this world better, or it doesn't
begin," he said.

After writing the manifesto, I asked a friend to put messages about it
on "a maximum of five forums". I didn't tell him which forums to hit,
and I didn't tell him what to write. "Just do your thing," I said.

Four of five forums immediately trashed his posts and prohibited him
from further use. "You are banned for eternity," said one message he
forwarded to me. But in the fifth forum, people started talking.

The conversations on that forum spurred activity around the web: tens
of blog entries, a few Craigslist posts, and hundreds of
revolutionaries joining in. Not the millions needed to change the
world overnight, but - and I am convinced of this - something much
better.

Revolutions don't begin with millions of people. Rather, they begin
with small groups of people who want to improve their own lives, and
make the world better. These people - us, the vanguard - are the
first step.

It is my hope that together, we can help spread the word about this
revolution... the one that begins here!

Best,
Dan

And... it's all an advertisement for Avanoo...

[EDIT] Clipped quote, it's in the post above. [/EDIT]

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed it's over and wasn't something cooler, but well done, Dan. It definitely kept my interest.

Heh, interesting way to get folks involved. I, too, was hoping for a bit more, but the site does look interesting.

I can't even log in - I didn't write it down when I signed up and none of my usual ARG names work! LOL

I even sent a "forgot my password" and the temp one they sent me doesn't work either! Guess I'm just SOL huh?

Yeah. dissapointment. At least he should have kept it going longer before the launch. Like all 14 clues should have been discoverable?

I thought it was a novel approach, and it worked - it got us thinking and communicating, which is the whole point of the enterprise. The site itself is an interesting idea, and I'll have a bit of a potter round it later on. Yes, it's a shame it didn't lead on to something with more.... oomph, but I think it was good while it lasted.

Ok, I agree, it was something of a letdown. On the other hand, the site does have potential. The purpose of this site is to let people—those who ordinarily are not asked what they think—express their opinions on practically anything. It's a place to learn what others think, and a place to be inspired by new ideas. It is also a place where those marketers, politicians, etc. who actually care can learn what people of all kinds actually think and believe.

The commercial nature is a letdown. But used wisely, it offers a means of communicating that could be worthwhile. Of course, being in advertising, I am intrigued by the success of this viral experiment.

Anyway, I vote that we keep watching the site and see what happens.

Bleh. I was so excited this morning to check it out, too!

Oh, well. At least I "nailed" it. Laughing

*adding thought*
I'm actually really enjoying playing around with this site. Very Happy Wish there had been more of a game associated with it, though. They could have given us more puzzles and missions that went with the site. Still, it's actually pretty fun to answer the polls and read what people are saying. Nice job! Very Happy

I am new at this so I didn't know what to expect, but just signed up - my key was Rich Men From Utah. I don't know exactly what the game was, but I managed to go to the Avanoo page where I feel like I was "used" for a college project/survey.

I'm agreeing...was kind of annoyed before but this is pretty cool. It definitely connects to my uni major...Interesting stats btw. It's pretty unpredictable what people will choose.
