Old Overwritten Updates

There are some things that I've been looking for that aren't available anymore, having been overwritten by new updates....

- Beth's "My Life," "My Work," and "My Hobby"...they've each been updated a number of times, haven't they? I know BrianEnigma has a lovely mirror of the site from Oct. 13, but how about besides that? Such as on Oct. 1?

- The notes and lists of things to do from both Kat and Beth - they were updated frequently.

There are probably others, but I can't think of any, and it would be nice to have access to these particular ones. Has anyone been keeping track of when such things were updated? If not, do the PMs happen to have easily accessible archives of them?

(I tried searching on unfiction and couldn't find these things posted earlier in their entirety...if they were, or if there's a handy archive somewhere that I'm not aware of, please just point me in the right direction)

Heh, don't ask why I'm looking for these. I'm somewhat bored, and this is such a great procrastination tool.

On a more relevant note, these would be pretty helpful for the book. "Beth's site went online on Oct. 1st, but we don't know what it said because it was overwritten by a later update..." See? Mr. Green

Let me, um, ask somebody.

ah, I'm sure I have Beth's first version of her site. I'm not as sure about the lists that changed as most of that was discussed in chat or on our board (I wrote them and then Space updated them), but I'm sure that I can figure it out.

Lemme look around.

Ok, this is what I had in my bethsbio1.doc and it may or may not be the exact bits. I'm pretty sure about life, not quite as sure about hobby & work as there were some doubled paragraphs and such. The lists will take longer to find.

Quote:
Bio: Life
What is there to tell?

I'm a 20-something living in the Northwest and working in the tech industry. Rather typical, really. My life is simple and content, which is exactly how I like it.

My birthday was this past week and with it came a few cards and well wishes from friends both old and new. I have never understood the obsession some have with celebrating the anniversary of birth, counting the years gone by and the hoping for many in the future. It's nothing but one day out of three hundred and sixty five in a year. Don't get me wrong, I understand the need and enjoyment of anniversaries and milestones; I am a girl after all. However, I just do not relate to the emotional ties that people have for their birthdays. It's as if some live just for the memories and dreams that they can spout on that one day.

Bio: Hobby
It all started out so innocently. A simple link to a website sent from a friend with the half-hearted plea, "You've gotta check this out! It can't be real, can it?" One website led to another and another and another... Before I knew it, my bookmarks were filled with crazy sites that seemed to be documenting another world. A world that called to me, that fascinated me.

The world, as we know it, is guided by a relatively complex set of simple rules. These rules are not only built on logic and order, they establish logic and order. These rules, these physical laws, cannot just be ignored or discounted. Yet here I was looking at page after page of instances that seemed to operate with different rules, ones that that disrupt what we know to be true, to be possible.

Many people accept these instances on faith and consider them to be signs or miracles. Others believe that they're figments of a deluded mind or elaborate hoaxes meant to trick the feeble minded. Whatever you choose to believe is your choice. However, science, history, and knowledge dictate that there is a logical and rational explanation for such phenomena. They may be paranormal, but they are not abnormal.

For the past few years, I've spent countless hours living a normal life in a paranormal world. I know that every paranormal phenomenon has a logical or rational explanation. It could be something as simple as a hoax; it could be something far more complex. It is my hope, my intent, that by recording phenomenal events the logic behind them will be discovered.

Bio: Work

I've never been a cheerleader-type and I certainly wouldn't have gotten an award for school spirit. I'm a behind the scenes sort of person that does what needs to be done to the best of my ability. Attention monger and Beth McConnell are never uttered in the same sentence. Yet, let me tell ya, I am loving the fact that I was named the first corporate-wide employee of the month. The recognition has been fantastic and my department has been great about it. Despite the few jokes here and there, it's been a lot of fun and couldn't have happened at a better time.

My entire career has been spent with Metacortex, granted it's not been that long of a career. I started with them as a college intern and never wanted to leave. Sure, it's work and it's not always the best. Yet, I was privileged to get into the company under a fantastic supervisor who, despite some of his recent crankiness, is more of a mentor than a boss. I was also fortunate to watch one of the most brilliant new corporate minds in action while the company was headed by our former CEO. His retirement was a shock to everyone, especially to those of us who knew him. While the company didn't fall apart without him, it just wasn't the same. Yet with the economy being what it is and my boss being so supportive, it would have been insane for me to look elsewhere.

Now, after far too long without leadership, we have a new CEO. New policies and responsibilities are being thrown around and while R&D is essential, no more so than any other department. So, I must admit, it's nice to get recognition during this time. My job certainly isn't secure because of this, nor is my department. Yet to have my work as well as the work of my research team acknowledged is very comforting. It will be nice once this questionable phase is over and the future of Metacortex is a little more clear.

Wonderful, thanks! Do you know how many times it was updated, and approximately when? I seem to remember that we tended to not really pay attention to Beth's updates because they all sort of looked the same...

Don't worry about the lists if it's too much of a hassle. I could probably track the progress of most of Beth's lists, at least, through forum posts, although I've discovered that the search function can be somewhat tempermental. I'll try tomorrow, see what I can find.

Dunno about Kat's lists, although those are probably more or less posted on the forum as well. Meh, tomorrow.

(I was hoping someone might have a handy little file of all of these. Oh well.)

bio: life changed on the 10/4
bio: work & bio: hobby changed on 10/11
bio: work updated 10/15

then she went to email and what would have changed on the site went into the email and any/all of the changes that were going to be made to the site were mentioned in the emails instead, at least as far as the bio went (though I think there was another bio:hobby update, just can't find it on our board... saw several mentions of it, but didn't see that it was done). As for the research, research: current changed more frequently (every other update or so)... slowly showing the pattern of biblical anomalies and then phasing into the 'collector' anomalies (some of which were also biblical) and then to all non-'collector' anomalies (suddenly, after the final 'incident').

Heh, the switch to e-mail sure makes tracking a lot easier... do you happen to have the Oct. 15 work update? Multiple searches of the forum didn't bring it up, although I bet once I get it I'll be able to find it...I found the original versions easily, after you posted them. The search engine is evil.

Ok, Kat's lists are all nicely documented, no problem there. They weren't updated as frequently as I'd thought.

Posts about updates to Beth's list stop around mid-October, so her updates about all the camping things aren't documented. However, that isn't incredibly important, it's just a matter of when things were crossed out.

So I'm pretty happy now.

(incidentally, it's kind of funny that the more trouty and pointless posts were helpful in that search...they tended to include some info that no one else had bothered to mention because it was right there on the sites...heh)

Sorry, this is rather off-topic here, but I need to ask: does anybody happen to have that rendering of Aquapolis that aqualung made? It was an .mov, and he posted it here. He doesn't have it anymore Sad , but maybe, by chance, somebody happened to save it?
