08.B

This one obviously corresponds to a QWERTY keyboard exclusing all special characters and spaces except *shift*. There are two colors which highlight the blank spaces on the keyboard. My estimation of the corresponding keys is as follows:

(Maroon on top, Pink on bottom - let's not discuss the social implications of that decision Twisted Evil)

4977Poa6oG
eisgCkmqoA

I'm thinking that we need one from each of the rows in order for it to work. Thoughts?

...Correction

Think it should be:

eisgckmqoa

(you had two o's for 0's... and I changed your capitals of the bottom set, as the color only matched for the top set).

Ok, first step is to neaten things up
(Not wrapped in Spoiler tags because code 7.c has been solved)
Code:

i9K45S
MpavLi
C6LerA
ObABOD
LaaLAv
TENOxA
IHcnlu
ORoECQ
HhAv1e

Now that things are all puurrrrty...
look at these letters (ROW/COLUMN)
3/1(c)
4/1(o) -- 4/2(b)
5/2(l) -- 5/1(a)
6/1(t)

It's easy to spot when the letters are arranged neatly. Then you find Equinox, (start in bottom, right) Silverado (top, right) etc...

Remove the letters that spell a car name and you are left with the letters needed for the code. Just read left-to-right and top-to-bottom for proper letter arrangement, and you have it solved.

Code Breaking

Another code that I broke was also rather easy (ok, so I'm lame and go for the easy ones - I'm old - gimme a break)...

I don't have the original, but here's how I cracked it... so I will use example letters - hope this helps folks break some codes...

I saw groups of letters, lowercase and uppercase. No numbers. Probably dealing with a simple character rotation cipher.
I looked for 3-letter words (most common way to solve simple ciphers is to look for AND and THE)

Two words were only 1 letter off from each other.

Uid and sid

That was the key.

Rotate lowercase letters backwards 1 and uid becomes THE.
Rotate uppercase letters forward 1 and Sid becomes THE.

I performed the adjustment on all the letters and was rewarded with the location of the code.

Code Breaking

And yet another code (I wish I had the originals, or they were on an archive page for teaching folks - HINT HINT)

The code was a series of numbers.
No first-number was over 12, and the first thing I thought of was 12 months in a year.

So, I took the second number and used that as the position within the MONTH name as the needed letter.

3,1 would be MARCH, M
7,4 would be JULY, Y

and spell MY

DO NOT USE FLEX FUEL

I just battled Wyldfyr and should not have won. I was at 47% torso, he at 55%. I did not strike his head at all, but his head was at 38% because it was "Healed by Earth's Environmentally Friendly Flex Fuel." Healed - yeah ... ka-BLAM!

Sorry Wyldfyr, t'was a bug...

Thanks for your explination Pelgarotron. As for the newest "clue".... I tried to reverse it as well as slow it down... and I got nothing but something that sounds like darth vader mixed with a whale. Yay for only default WMP Rolling Eyes

New Clue

I took a look at it, also, I tried speeding it up, slowing it down, changing the speed while playing it backwards, and I even tried opening it up in a text editor. At the very beginning of the file, it shows "RIFF WAVEfmt dataX" (with a bunch of stuff in between that a text editor is obviously not supposed to be able to interpret). After that, it was all gibberish to Word. It's sampled at 705Kbps, so maybe it needs to have the sampling rate changed? I'll admit, I don't know a lot about audio editing, but I do know that 705K is not a standard sampling rate.

Just checked it out in a hex editor, nothing there either. I'm leaning towards the resampling idea...

Well it is in PCM format, which explains the labels (RIFF ect.) that you found in the file.

Ok, here's what you need for these .wav files
http://www.shareup.com/Frequency_Analyzer-download-7919.html

This utility allows you to see the code visually.

Mathematically, images and sounds are similar. These guys are pulling a VERY neat trick. It made me smile.[/img]

Gator Magnus beat me to it... but thats one of the coolest things I've seen.
I kinda figured it would require a program that would do something like that, but didn't know about that program.

BTW, Pelgarotron , where do you come up with this stuff Shocked

Its like your in the code writers head Razz But thank you, as this is a real good learning experience.

You're welcome.

Nope - not in the code writer's heads. I'm just playing it by ear. But I do write my own code, and have been using Flash since the *OLD* days when www.gabocorp.com was the be-all and end-all of "WOW!" sites. Heck, I had an ARPANet account in the 80s when I was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC ... so, yeah - I've been on the Net before it was called The Internet.

I know a great deal about codes and ciphers because they interested me years ago, enough that I looked some up and played around with them.

I also play LARPs in New England (Live Action RolePlay games) and many of them put out clues and codes in ciphers and character-rotation type stuff - keeps me in practice. I may be in my 40s, but I still keep on truckin'.

Add to that the fact that I *AM* in my 40s, and I *DO* pay attention to what I see and learn, and it just sort of SEEPS into your brain after a while.

You cannot reach 40 and not have learned enough to be annoying to those around you ... "How the HECK do you know this stuff?" is often heard around me.

The transmissions in .wav format are sound files that utilize a frequency analysis to present you with a visual code. Here's the code you would have found if you had used a frequency analysis program.
